Rating: Summary: My Review of HOLES Review: I really enjoyed reading Holes. Holes won the newbury award in 1998 and now I know why. It was a fantastic book; I could not put it down. I wanted to finish this book so badly that it only took me about half a day to read it (I finished it late at night because I just could not go to bed without knowing how it ended). One of the reasons I liked Holes so much (apart from its plot) was the way that the book kept switching off between three main stories -- two in the past and the main story, in the present. This way, I understood what was "behind the scenes." The main story was about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who went to work at a camp in Texas because he (supposedly) committed a crime. Another story is about Stanley's great-great-grandfather who started a curse that lasted for generations to come. The third story is about the history of the camp at which Stanley is working. But I won't tell you how these three stories are connected. You'll have to figure that out for yourself! Holes is definitely a book on my top 10 list!!!
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Holes is a great book!!! I could never put it down!!! One of my favorites!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Jeff Lambert, teacher Review: This is a good book! I was suprised at how well it was written, considering the age level. The story was compelling, gripping and believable. The ending was a bit too much though. I recommend this book to any one who has a sense of adventure. The story would also make a great movie.
Rating: Summary: Excellent plotting Review: I loved this book, primarily because of the clever inter-plotting between events of the past and the present: a great way to get kids interested in learning more about their own family history. I thought it would be too intense for my 8 year old son, with all the horrible and unfair things that first happen to the young lead character, but he loved it too.
Rating: Summary: Holes by Louis Sacher Review: If you have ever seen Camp Green Lake as a place to spend your summer, you might not want to spend it there. Unless you like a discipline camp with hot sweaty boys who have come to learn a life long lesson, it would be a good place for you. In this horrible place a young boy named Stanley Yelnats who is brought there for somthing he didn't even do! Instead of Stanley learning a life long lesson, he learns something a little differnet. What are they digging up? And what is it that the Warden is trying to find? Learn these answers today! What are you waiting for? Pick up this great book and start reading!
Rating: Summary: Best Ever Review: I loved this book. I couldn't take my eyes off it until I was finished. The story is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats(read it backwards too) who thinks that there is a curse on his family. All of his predecessors had failed at anything they had done, not because they had no skill or money or whatever, because they had no luck. And being accused of stealing a famous ballplayer's shoes that were on sale for charity. He gets a choice: jail, or Camp Green Lake. He chooses Camp Green Lake, and at that place, you have to dig a hole exactly 5 feet deep, 5 feet wide, and 5 feet long. You'll have to read it yourself to find the rest out. But the story actually begins in Europe long ago, and the families weave through each other so intricately... (^00^)<-that's a pig
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but... Review: This book was interesting but it's not something I'd read a second time. The plot was great but it took too long to get to the ending. There wasn't MUCH wrong with the book, its just that it got tiresome and boring in the middle, where almost the same exact thing happen over and over. I give this book 4 stars because its good, but it isn't the best I've read. I'd recomend this to anyone who's in need of something to do.
Rating: Summary: holes a great childrens book Review: holes was a rather unique book . through the way that luis sacher put everything in perfect order and how he took short stories from the past and fit them in twith preasent time and yes i would recomend this book because it was a short read and jumped out at me in the book store. thank you
Rating: Summary: Excellent Multicultural Story Review: This story is so excellent. The reader really gets to understand and sympathise with Stanley. There is actually a double story that all comes together in the end. This multicultural book is a "must read" for young adults and adults.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: I loved Holes it was so different and unusual. I loved how they were forced to dig in order to find the treasure. I loved the warden and her rattlesnake red finger nail polish with realrattlesnake venom in it. This book was great!!!
