Summary: WONDERFULLY WRITTEN!
Review: I enjoyed this book because it was a mystery and mysteries are my favorite types of stories. I also found the cover very attractive. I liked the main character,Stanley Yelnats. He was cool and had a good heart, but most people misjudge him because of his appearance. The best part of the book was when Stanley jumped into one of the camp officers trucks and drove of into the hot,dry desert. Then crashing into an enormous hole! I thought this part of the book was very exciting and action packed. I loved the ending because it fit best with the story. This ending made Holes on of the best books I have ever read!

Summary: A real page turner
Review: I liked this book because it was filled with action. I also liked the book because it has the main person fighting for something he did not do. My favorite part was when they find the truth because they were wrong. I also liked when he gets away from the camp because they treat kids there very badly. The ending makes you wish there was another book so you can find out what happens to the all of the people.

Summary: Holes
Review: Set in Camp Green Lake is a boys' detention center. There is a wild twist, there is no water at Camp Green Lake. Everyday and any day all the boys dig a hole that is five feet deep by five feet wide in Every direction. They did this under the boiling hot sun with only a canteen of water that was filled up every once in a while.
The main character, Stanley Yelnats, believes his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great grandfather" has cursed him. He believes this because he has been accused of stealing a pair of shoes from that once belonged to Clyde Livingston from a salvation army. Because of this accusation, Stanley has to go to court. The Judge gave him the Choice of going to jail or Camp Green Lake. Stanley had never been to camp before and thinks it sounds like fun. He is in for a rude awakening.
Throughout the book, Stanley realizes that the Warden, the camp leader, is not only making the boys dig to build character, but to find something. One day Stanley finds a lipstick cap with the Initials "KB" on it. Stanley gave it to his friend, X-Ray, because he promises he will give anything he found to him. X-Ray then gives it to their counselor, Mr. Pendanski. Mr. Pendanski shows it to the Warden. The Warden thinks the boys found it in X-Ray's hole, and they really found it in Stanley's hole. The Warden made everyone dig X-Ray's hole deeper and wider.
This book is a "puzzle to be completed." With its extraordinary characters and its exciting events, you will be taken on an unforgettable wild adventure. The moral of this story is very concise. Everyone who needs to learn the importance of being a good person read this book by Louis Sachar.

Summary: Critical Review of Sachar's Holes
Review: Holes--a masterfully written novel that does nothing short of defining the word "intertwined." With such an addictive plot, Holes clearly demonstrates Louis Sachar's abnormal genius in the line of chain-of-events planning. After reading the novel, one would be frightened to play a game of chess with him. The novel provides an adequate dose of humor, emotion, suspense, strife...and an enjoyable overdose of irony.
There is one aspect of Sachar's writing that readers cannot overlook. He carefully makes the reader step out of the present-time storyline in order to provide a much-needed history of the Lake and Stanley's family. It is almost as if Sachar is directly addressing the reader in a Harriet Jacobs-esque style. Although this method is not excessively appropriate or preferred by many readers, it is nonetheless necessary, and Sachar uses it in the utmost professional manner.
Moreover, Sachar does not leave the reader "digging" for answers that the story does not provide. Instead, he provides a separate section devoted to answering these questions. It is the job of authors to bring works to firm conclusions, and many writers do not complete their jobs because their stories are open-ended. Sachar does not only do his job, but he also does it well by finishing the book with a conclusion that seems to scream, "This is how it is!"
As a future English/language arts teacher, I know for sure that Louis Sachar's Holes will definitely be placed on my students' reading lists.

Summary: A book that I want to read it again and again...
Review: Stanley Yelnats, an innocent boy who was sent to the Camp Green Lake because of the bad luck within his family. Since his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather his family then has a history of bad luck. Therefore Stanley wasn't really surprised when a miscarriage had sent him to the camp. Camp Green Lake is the largest lake in Texas, however it is now dry and flat. In the camp he had to wake up really early everyday and dig a hole with five feet deep and five feet wide. Just because of the warden claimed "If you take a bad boy and make him dig a hole everyday in the hot sun, it will turn him into a good boy." But that was actually a lie. It was hard for people who first start to dig a hole. However, as they dig more and more holes, it became easier and faster. But then Stanley found out that the warden had made them dig to find something, something that was really important to the warden. As the story goes on, Stanley then realized the truth.
It is a wonderful story with both laughter and pain and with creativity. This story creates a mood, which brings us into the story, and actually makes readers fell how the characters feel.
Even though this book is a book for the age around 9-12, I think this is a book that every age level will enjoy.
