Summary: Not what I thought it might be.
Review: The story is about a kid who gets sent to court and then out to a boys camp for a crime he did not do(stealing a pear of shoes). He meets some kids out there, becomes bubbies with them, and near the end makes a break for home with one of them named zero.

Being a fan of jail break stories, the book sounded pretty good.
Boy, was I wrong about that.
The story was totally unbeliveable, is over done, and makes no scence at all. I should have thought more about what I was getting into. I could see where a little kid would like this, or someone who dose not think about the realism of what there reading. This book had lots of holes in it.

Summary: Torture at Camp Green Lake
Review: A review by Benjamin

There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. This is what Stanley Yelnats finds out when he is accused of stealing some used shoes. You see, he didn't actually take them; they just fell from the sky! Well, at Camp Green Lake the warden makes every kid dig one five by five foot hole each day. Sounds crazy! Well, she is looking for a treasure that's buried under the surface, somewhere. Stanley and his friend run away, toward the big thumb (a mountain that is in the shape of a "thumbs-up" sign). The only problem is, the camp has the only water for a long ways.

This book was superbly written. It had a plot that never stopped. The beginning hooked my attention and didn't let go until I put the book down. Sachar's creative edge was seen in every word of the story. It kind of showed two stories, it kept going back and forth.
One story told the tale of Stanley's adventure, the other of Camp Green Lake 100 years ago, before the drought. The characters were well described, to every last detail. Zero, Stanley's friend, was his only companion beside his family. They hiked up the mountain together. Stanley carried zero up the rest of the way when he passed out because of the heat. X-ray, the leader of Stanley's bunkmates, was also well described; Along with all of the other characters.

I would stalwartly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good laugh, or anyone who just wants a fun read. It is fairly easy, but very creative and downright entertaining.

Summary: Part mystery, part comedy¿thoroughly fascinating.
Review: The way Stanley Yelnats figures it, he's a magnet for bad luck. His whole family is. It's the fault of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. But that's another story.

Stanley's latest bout of bad luck-being falsely accused of stealing his schools star basketball players used sneakers-has landed him at the misnamed Camp Green Lake-which isn't a camp and has no lake. Camp Green lake is a juvenile detention center for boys whose "warden" has an unusual scheme for teaching her wards character-they dig 5 foot by five foot by five foot holes in the desert every day. Stanley and his mates in D tent--Zero, X-Ray, Armpit, Squid, Magnet, and Zigzag-figure there's more to this digging than "character building"-why else would the warden be interested in being notified if "anything interesting" gets dug up?

Louis Sachar's Holes is part mystery, part comedy-and thoroughly fascinating. Peopled with wonderful characters-especially the D Tent crew-this is a funny and suspenseful novel that captures the imagination with riveting prose and action packed, occasionally frightening, adventure sequences. It's suspenseful enough that it might be a bit too intense for some younger readers in the recommended reading range.

The book was the winner of the 1999 Newbery Medal, the 1998 National Book Award for Young People's Literature, and the Boston Globe Horn Book Award.

Summary: Holes The Inside Story
Review: This book is great because it is telling three stories at once. The main character, Stanley Yelnats is being punished for a crime that he did not commit. He is being sent to Camp Green Lake. That is the first story it tells. The second is about Elya Yelnats, Stanleys great great grandfather

Summary: Keepin it Real
Review: I thought that the book was pretty good. I thought that it was easy to read and easy to pay attension to. I liked how there was always a part that something had to happen. It wasn't like any other book that had a good beginning a boring middle and a good ending. It was just good staight through. I personally liked the part where Zero nailed the guy in the head with a shovel. ...

Review: Holes is a great book, exspecially for young and developing minds. It makes great connections with the real world. It also has an excellent past to future connection in which a curse is cast and then cured, as well as a treasure found. This book also teaches morals to young ones.
