The boys that have or have not done anything wrong are tortured by being made to dig 5 ft by 5 ft holes every day. Stanley Yelnats and the other boys at the camp are tired of this and have a conflict with the Warden. They know she is looking for something. The boys put their lives in danger while trying to find out what the Warden is really up to. Take it from me this is a great book because if you knew me you would know that I hate reading. But this is one book that I actually finished. Now that must tell you that it must be good. By: Allen Clark

I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down until I finished it. This book is great for fifth grade and up. The reader can totally relate and sympathize for Stanley and what he goes through at Camp Green Lake. The way the story comes full circle in the end is what makes the book so interesting. My group loved this book and the discussion that emerged was not only fun but we analyzed all the different turns that occured. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a little mystery and humor mixed together!

It's about a kid named Stanley Yelnats who has a bad luck streak and gets sent to a juvenile correctional facility. Stanley Yelnats has had a bad luck streak throughout his whole life. He always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was all because of his great-great grandfather who stole a pig from an old Gypsy lady who put a curse on him and all his descendants. Stanley and his family think that it's all a family joke, but in this case, it actually happened. When Stanley is wrongfully convicted of a crime he didn't commit, he gets sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile correctional facility. The name may confuse you. Hardly anything is green, and there is no lake. Where there used to be a lake, there are holes (hence the title: Holes.) The camp is run by the Warden who says that digging holes supposedly builds character. Stanley believes that they are looking for something. While Stanley tries to figure it out, he earns a nickname and some new friends. The author, Louis Sachar, combines both past and present of not only Stanley, but also of the town Green Lake. I have read this book a couple of times, and the last time I read it, I found out something that I didn't know before. I suggest that everybody should read Holes at least a couple of times to fully understand the book. Stanley gets pretty lucky despite his bad luck. This book is one of my favorites

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Holes Review: If you like to read books about how sometimes people abuse of young kids . I recommend that you read Holes. This book makes you think how those kids feel when they get abuse by superior people. Once you read it you"ll want to read it over and over. Stanley was sent to a boys camp called Green Lake because people accused him of stealing some shoes from a basketball player. He thought camp Green Lake was going to be a fun place, but when he got there he realizes that there was no lake in there but holes, holes that they had to dig everyday. At the end, when Stanley was about to get out , the officer told him that he was innocent and his mom was about to pick him up. The warden of the camp said," If he talked he would be severely punished." At that time Stanley and his friend Zero were in a hole with yellow lizards. They were acared because they could die if one of those lizards bited them. The warden and the officer were just laughing. I hope you read this book. At first I thought it would be kind of boring when I saw the title, but while I was reading it I started wondering about those kids . I connect this story with at friend. He was sent to a rehabilitation camp and he was treated very badly, sometimes they awake him up at 12:00 am to wash all their cars. I'm sure that if you choose to read this book you"ll never forget about Stanley.
