Summary: A refreshing read full of depth
Review: As a 16 year old, I have begun to find some of the younger fiction tiring and cliche. The heroines are unoriginal, the problems tired. Such was NOT the case with Rosemary Graham's debut young adult novel, My Not-so-Terrible Time at the Hippi Hotel. The author was able to restore my faith in the genre, creating a believable heroine who was facing her problems one step at a time, and becoming a better person because of them. Tracey, the main character, is a dynamic creation who experiences a myriad of emotions that reflect the hormonal and social aspects that play a toll on young women.

Tracey comes to the "Hippi Hotel" suffering from a parental split, a loss of motivation, and an insecurity about her weight and herself. The young woman that emerges has gained some true perspective, which is refreshingly delightful. I'd recommend this book to young and old who like to see someone triumph over personal tragedy, parents who want to show their girls a strong role model, and teenagers who have lost faith in young adult novels- no matter what your age or situation is, you will be able to draw something from this dynamic debut!

Summary: This author is channeling a 14-year-old, I swear
Review: How else to explain the fact that Rosemary Graham manages to inhabit the mind of a teenager in this book? And what a terrific read HIPPIE HOTEL is! I am (pretty much) grown up, and I found it hard to put down. Any young teenager would love it, too. This is the kind of story that you just fall right into, a great place to escape from the outside world. (Kind of like the Hippie Hotel in the story, come to think of it.)

Summary: I liked this book
Review: I am a ten year old girl and I enjoyed reading this book. It was really funny and it was really sad and I think that the girl was a little embarrased. That made me like her because she is exactly like me. Well, not exactly, but sort of.

Summary: Wonderful lessons for a young girl
Review: I bought this book for my 10 year old daughter. She read it in a single evening, and loved it - openly grinning at points and laughing at others. She thought it was in the same class as the 'traveling pants.'

I then read the book, and thought it was terrific - on a couple of levels. One, it was a fun read. The author wonderfully captures the thoughts and emotions of this young teenager, to the point where you feel yourself to be 14 again. On another level, the main character deals with some pretty important issues, and ends up on the right side of the fence - delivering some terrific lessons and food for thought in the process.

Bottom line, this was a great book. I loved it. My daughter loved it. And because of what it had to say to a young reader, I'm incredibly glad that my daughter read it.

Summary: A perfect "Give me a Break" read!
Review: I can't imagine that too many readers will dislike this terrific debut novel! Not only a contemporary story, filled with poignant and memorable feelings that so many of us find when going through those teenage years, it also offers honest storytelling and a wonderful use of setting. I certainly felt at home while reading at this "Hotel."

Ideal for anyone traveling and hoping for a good read, or if you're stuck at home, wishing you could simply go somewhere else!

Summary: This is the best book I've read all summer!
Review: I loved this book so much! My cousin gave it to me to take to soccer camp, and I read it all at once when we got rained out, and then read it again the next day. It was so funny, and the characters are awesome. Everyone can find somebody in the book to relate to, and it's even better the second time you read it. I just hope that there will be more of these books soon, because I can't get enough. I'll read it for a third and fourth time no prob, but I really want to see what happens to these people. For now I'm just making all my friends read it, and they all love it too. And we all think that Paul sounds cute. Everybody should buy this book! It just rocks.

Summary: Not just for the YA crowd!
Review: I picked up this book, thinking it would be for a much younger reader...and I loved it! Tracy's adventures at the Hippie Hotel are both moving and funny. She is a winning character and Rosemary Graham is a winning storyteller.

Summary: A not-so-terrible Book
Review: I won this book in a contest held by the author. It was one of the best books ever. I am 14 years old, and this book was wonderful. Full of the problems most girls face every day, and a few more unusual ones, this book is a great read for anyone!
