Summary: Presumption....better not
Review: I love Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice, and I like the fact there there can be many interpretations to the ending. This was not one of the endings I would have considered and do not find interesting in the least. The reviewers said it was funny... but I dont see why...and really deserves about 1 1/2 stars, but since it is coming from such a great story I had to give it the extra 1/2 point.

Summary: review
Review: I thought Presumptions by Julia Barrett, was a very good book. Though no one could come close to Jane Austen, this book come close. Jane's tone and spirit are closely replicated. Though at times the pace seemed a little too quick , and it seemed the author tired to put as many words into a sentence as possible.

Summary: Presumption Indeed
Review: I really wanted to like it. I sure needed some escapism after the news of the past couple weeks. The title promised wit. And the first few pages were pleasant, with just a few tiny errors of useage, but as the book progressed, and Austen's characters became flatter, more distorted, doing things they simply would never have done, it became acutely uncomfortable to read more than a page or two, and I finally gave up.

The authors don't really have anything to say, so the story doesn't go anywhere. They also don't really seem to understand the mental paradigm of the time, much less the niceties of manners. (And if you're going to write a comedy of manners, then, yes, the little things DO matter.) Georgiana simply would not have hared off to London alone. Mrs. Bennet would not have mentioned to strangers, especially strangers perceived at a higher social level, that her sister was in jail. She might have moaned and acted lachrymose and dropped hints that her life was tragic, but even she would never have gone that far. And Miss Bingley would never have referred to Kitty and Mary by their first names--thus claiming a familiarity she utterly despised.

About all I can attest to in its favor is that at least the authors did not clutter the book up with a lot of Georgette Heyer slang. Lady Catherine de Bourgh, I am grateful to say, never told Georgiana "Stop making a cake of yourself." And Elizabeth Darcy did not, thank heaven, say to her husband, "You're bamming me!"

Summary: (attempted) style and no substance
Review: At first glance this book about Georgiana Darcy appears to follow in the Austen style. The author tries to capture the witty writing, she attempts to remain faithful to the familiar characters while introducing new ones of the same fashion, and she fills her story with the little intrigues and romances that all manage to tie into one another in the end. However, PRESUMPTION was disappointingly lacking in sophistication and heart. The story operated on only one level so it wasn't much more than a period romance. The characterizations were a bit flat so I never felt any real warmth towards Barrett's Darcys, Bennets, and Bingleys or any real interest in their new friends and enemies. All in all, this book felt tedious even though it was a fast read. Perhaps it was too fast a read because there wasn't anything to make you stop and think.

Summary: It wasn't bad....
Review: While the story did center on Georgiana, I didn't feel cheated from seeing lots of Lizzie, Darcy, Jane and Bingley, and the rest of the main characters from the original book. The writing style was solid -- however the one thing that irked me a bit was the way some of the characters spoke. Kitty sounded exactly like Lydia -- in fact every time I read her dialogue Lydia popped into my head instead of Kitty -- and I just cannot for the life of me see Darcy calling Elizabeth 'Lizzie' as Jane did. The only other small gripe I had with the book is the way the romance was resolved at the end with Georgiana. Her feelings towards the man she did pick at the end seemed totally sudden and was therefore awkward to read and just didn't feel genuine.

Not a bad try at a sequel, and it was nice to catch up with all the Bennetts, Darcys, Bingleys, Collins, and the rest again.

Summary: Forgetable
Review: I'm sure I liked it when I read it (last year). I just don't really remember it now.

Summary: Good, but....
Review: I couldn't help feeling that this book lacked the amount of Lizzy and Darcy that I was hoping for, and focused too much on Georgiana. I also thought it had rather an abrupt ending. But, if your desperate, as I was, it'll do.....for now.

Summary: This is a chocolate truffle of a book
Review: add a scented bubble bath, and you have girl book nirvana. In Presumption, Julia Barrett lets Jane Austen's characters out to play again. Elizabeth and Darcy enjoy their marriage, and we enjoy hearing their banter. Georgianna has two suitors, complications ensue, and there you are: back in Austen country, where social satire reigns. Have fun!

Summary: A delicious chocolate truffle of a book
Review: I'm happily wallowing in Presumption right now, and I recommend it, accompanied by a scented bubble bath, as near nirvana. I've read other Jane Austen sequels, but this is the most enjoyable I've come across. Ms. Barrett retains Jane's light touch and saucy satire, and gives her characters more room to play. I can't wait to see what happens next, and to whom in this enlighted romance. Gotta go -- it's bubble bath time, and Georgianna must choose between two suitors!

Summary: Not Quite Jane Austen
Review: This book was worthwhile reading but lacks the description that a Jane Austen book has. I enjoy Austen books for the story but also for her writing style, the more complex english, which this book doesn't have. It does have a good story and I enjoyed imagining the characters that I have gotten to know in Pride and Prejudice and recommend this to anyone who truly loves the books of Jane Austen.
