Summary: This book proves we could learn a few things from Indains.
Review: My name is Jessica. This book takes place in Maine. The Sign of the Beaver is about a boy (Matt) who meets an indian boy (Attean) while his father is gone back to Massatuchutes to fetch his family.I recommend this book to people ages 8 and up. I give this book 100 thumbs up.

Summary: I think this book was great!
Review: This was a great book! I strongly recommend it for any readers, young or old, who are in for an adventurous tale about a boy and an Indian. The boy, who's name is Matt, is left alone in the wilderness of Maine while his father goes back to Massachussetes for the rest of their family. Matt is left to tend to the corn and the cabin. While doing so, he meets an Indian named Attean. They become good friends. His family is 3 weeks late. He is forced to choose between going with Attean and his tribe or wait for his family. To find out what happens, you'll have to read The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare.

Summary: It was about 2 boys who meet and became friends.
Review: I gave it 3 stars because I didn't like it a lot but still recomended it to other people that like nonfiction novels. It was about a boy who had to stay home alone, because his father went back to pick up his mother, sister, and baby brother which died on the journey. While waiting for his family he came upon some indians and make friends with them. The indians were moving north and offerred him to come with, but he decided to stay and wait for his family.

Summary: This book definitely should have got the Newbery Medal.
Review: The Sign of the Beaver was truly a great book. It deals mostly with a boy named Matt who is left alone in the forest by his father who goes back to Massachusets to get the rest of the family. But on the way back, the whole family is stricken with Typhus Fever, and gets delayed. Matt must learn to survive on his own, but gets help from an Indian (who will eventually become his friend) later in the story. Will his family ever come back?

Summary: BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: The Sign of the Beaver was SOOOOOOOOOOO BORING!!!! I had to read it for school and I strongly disliked it. Matt was by himself most of the time so there was hardly any conversation. And,most of the time, all it talked about was him hunting or worrying about his dad.I almost fell asleep while I was reading it and most of the people in my class felt the same way about it. I strongly suggest that you DO NOT read this book unless you are having trouble going to sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Quasi historical fiction "Rites of Passage" tale
Review: The inaccuracy of the the paperback cover aside, leaving a 12 year old to guard a cabin in the twentieth century would at least result in a visit by child protective service. The parallel "Rites of Passage" of Matt fulfilling his father's desire for Matt to put property above safety and spiritual awakening contrasted against Attean's family who believe in communal land ownership and the necessity of the spiritual is striking, but lost on the audience of this book. The "Robinson Crusoe" that Matt reads in his attempt at teaching Attean to read is significant not just for the obvious class examples but that Matt is simply on an adventure waiting for rescue while Attean finds himself and his identity as the story unfolds. We must do as Attean does and find our spirit and not just wait to be rescued.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Matt and Attean enjoy a very interesting cultural encounter.
Review: This story brings together two worlds, as it may have happened during our country's beginnings. Readers see the awakening of cultural understanding and friendship among two young boys living in Maine. Learning from each other about each other's worlds, Matt a young white settler and Attean a young Indian boy both learn to trust each other, even for their survival. The book was fun to read and is interesting for almost any student.

Summary: Matt was very brave
Review: Matt was very brave and was left alone to gaurd his new cabin as his father left to retrieve his family and bring them back to start a new life. Matt always thought he was being wached but never guessed that he would be saved by an Indian cheif and his gfrandson, Attean. Friendship grows between the 12 year old boy and the tribe but when he is asked to leave his hope of seeing his family again and move with the Beaver tribe north he is faced with the greatest desicion of his life.

Summary: The Choice of Whether he will leave, or stay.
Review: Matt waited for his father every day. He seemed to never come. A indian chief and his grandson saved Matt's life when he was attacked by swarming bees and almost drowned in the water. Attean, was not a friend from the start and when they got to know eachother, they became friends. Then the time came for the indian tribe to leave and there was no sign that his family came back. Then they asked him to come with them, and gave him the choice of whether to leave or not to.
