Summary: Very good book!
Review: The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare is a very good book. It is about a boy named Matt who moves to Maine from Massachusetts with his father in the 1600s. His father goes back to get his mother, sister, and a newborn baby Matt hasn't even seen! One day Matt is climbing a bee tree to get honey when the bees attack! He runs towards the river and jumps in. He is pulled from the river by an old indian chief named Saknis. Saknis nurses him back to health. Saknis signs a treaty with Matt saying that Matt should teach his grandson, Attien, to read. Matt agrees. So Matt semi-teaches Attien to read. He tries to explain things like "A is for arm" so Attien can understand. Matt shows a page from Robinson Crusoe to Attien. Attien thinks white men are morons for printing "arm" all over the page- he thinks each "A" stands for arm. Matt decides to read Robinson Crusoe to Attien. But they explore the forest more than they read. I like the way Elizabeth George Spear brings you into the story and makes you feel like you are there, right in the action. I didn't think the book was long enough. If it was longer it would have been great! I learned from this book that courage is not skin deep. I also learned what it was like to live in the wilderness of Maine in the 1600s. I learned what it was like in an indian village in the 1600s. I recommend this book to people who like very intruguing books, books that can take you to another place, books that can take you to another world or another time in history. Summary: Great book!
Review: Imagine being a twelve year old boy, trying to survive alone in the Maine wilderness. In The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare. Matt and his father build a cabin in the woods. Matt's father must leave to get the rest of the family. Matt conflicts with nature to survive. A Native American came and he was helping Matt to build arrows and other stuff like arrows and a bow. The Native American was an Indian chief whose grandson was named Attean. Matt and Attean became friends and the Native Americans helped Matt survive.
I enjoyed the book because Matt was in the outdoors and he was not ever bored. He would not just sit around all day and do nothing. Was always goes out side and explores places he has not been before. And when I was reading I got in the book and I just wanted to read more. Matt and his Dad built a cabin for their family and I thought that it was nice that they were helping their family. If I could change one thing in this novel it would be that I would wont the book to be longer.

Summary: My kids enjoyed this book!
Review: We listened to the audiotape of this book and my children - ages 5, 8, and 10 really enjoyed it! For that matter - I enjoyed it myself! There was lots of adventure and at the end both boys showed a lot of maturity and it was a great springboard for some discussion with my oldest - a 10-year-old son. I recommend reading/listening to it with your .

Summary: The Review of the Beaver
Review: "THE SIGN OF THE BEAVER" is a adventure packed book that Justin really likes. It's about a family that is moving up to Maine in the late 1700's. Matt's dad left him at the cabin, while he went back to get the rest of the family back in Quincy, Massachusetts. Matt who is 12 years old decides to get honey from a bee's hive in a tree and instead he gets stung. Two indians save him and supply him with food for a while. The Chief Saknis and his grandson Attean help him back to full health. saknis asks Matt if he would teach Attean how to read and so Matthew Hallowell does. Attean also teaches Matt a lot of very usefull survival skills. He teaches Matt how to catch rabits with a snare and how to make a wood fish hook quickly and made well. Attean also shows him the signs of other indian tribes and warns him not to tresspass and to mark your path with like a broken branch or two rocks ontop of each other. Matt has a fun time but he can't get Attean to be proud of him. When Mr.Hallowell (Matt's dad) dosn't come after three weeks when he sould have Saknis asks Matt if he wants to come with them because his dad might not come back. Matt does wonder if he sould go North with Attean or stay and wate for his dad. What will he decide? It's a mind-unsettling question. Read to figure out what Matt decides and what happens after that...

Summary: Best book i've ever read!!!!!!!!
Review: The book "The Sign of the Beaver" is the best book i've ever read. It is about a boy named Matt who is left alone in the woods waiting for his dad to come with his mother and sister. Over a course of a couple months the boy has a few hardships he had to over come. One of them was when a guy names Ben came and stole his rifle so he had to live off of other sources since he couldn't hunt. After getting tired of fish he decided to try and get honey from a bee hive. he was stung many times. Two indians, Saknis and Attean, found him and took him to his cabin and gave him medicine for a couple days. After Matt was better he made a deal with Saknis to teach Attean to read white mans language. After so many times that Matt and Attean were together they finally became friends and part brothers in time.

Summary: The Sign Of The Beaver
Review: This is a good book. In the begining it is boring but keep on reading because it becomes fasinating. Matt's family leaves and
Matt has to watch over the cabbin. Soon after they leave, a guy named ben came and stole Matt's gun. The Native American tribe (the beaver tribe) found matt and helped him. He becomes good friends with Attean (someone from the beaver tribe). But soon Attean and his tribe have to leave and they ask Matt to come with them and matt says.............Wait i'm not going to tell you how it ends if I told you it would be a total waste because the book is better. So read The Sign Of The Beaver and you'll find out. This book is an adventure book and also fun book. I just didn't want to put it down. So read this book and I hope you feel the same way I do!!

Summary: The Sign of the Beaver
Review: Matt's family is moving to Maine. Matt and his dad must go to Maine to build the cabin. His dad then will go back and collect the rest of the family. Matt must stay behind and watch the corn and cabin. Matt's dad tells him that they'll be back in seven or eight weeks.

While they are gone Matt must learn many things about the forest. He might not have lasted the time without Attean. Attean is an Indian of the beaver tribe that Matt meets very soon after his dad has left. Attean teaches Matt many secrets of the forest.

Ten weeks of adventuring have gone by and the Indians are going to leave soon. The worst part about it was that Matt's parents have not yet returned. What will happen to Matt? Read The Sign of the Beaver to find out.

I would recommend this book to ages eight and up. I would give this book a nine out of ten.

Summary: Sign of the Beaver
Review: Hey I just read this cool book for all you historical fiction lovers. It's called Sign Of The Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare.
In the book there were three things I really liked. I liked how it was crazy and adventurous and how the boy Matt started to make a union between white men and Indians. Also I liked it when Matt finds out that all his beliefs about Indians were wrong. One thing I hated was the ending; Matt's dad doesn't come back.
In the beginning Matt's father goes to get supplies and pick-up the rest of the family. When his father doesn't return Matt gets worried and finds Indian tribe. They are the Beaver Tribe. Well I won't spoil the fun but towards the end Matt creates a special bond with the Indians.
This book takes place in the wilderness of Maine, in 1769. There are many trees; it's very green there, filled with shrubs and plants.
