Rating: Summary: The Girl in the Box Review: This is a book full of tension and fear: it's as good as any movie!!! I could not get her situation off my mind for a long time. It seems unusual for a children's book to seem so real.I wish there was a sequel to this one!!! Enjoy!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Thought provoking, but unsutible for the young reader Review: This is a thought provoking book for mature readers. It is increadibly suspenceful and effective. The lack of closure is frustrating, and leads the reader to conclude the worst. Anyone reading this book must be prepared that it is written only from the view of the victim, and the questions all readers have are never answered. The lack of closure, and horror strcken setting, make it unsuitable for younger readers. It should not be classified as a young adult book. Read with caution!
Rating: Summary: Powerful Review: This is no ordinary book. It tells how a 16-year-old girl copes with being trapped inside an underground room by a faceless kidnapper. Bits and pieces of her life are revealed through "letters" she writes on her typewriter. It's scary how relevant and realistic the novel is in our time. It would be great if situations like Jackie's were unheard of,but they aren't,and there are no simple solutions. The ending packs a punch and leaves the reader hanging, like life. "The Girl in the Box" might be too real for some, but I would reccomend it to those who think they're mature enough to handle it.
Rating: Summary: ARGH!!!!! Review: This is one of those books that you love but hate at the same time. I suppose it was especially disturbing to me because I have bee in a similar situation as the peole in the "story" that Jackie wrote. I was really angered that April and Zack said that Jackie was being unfair, when it was they who were being so injust. They lied to her and pretended, was that fair? They were leaving her out, was that fair? She, then, was being perfectly correct to be angry at them. If you haven't, READ THIS BOOK!!!! It is wonderful, and really makes you think.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but there isnt't any closure. Review: This novel raises many unanswered questions which I felt were hard to get past: "Why was she kidnapped?" "Who kidnapped her?" I found that the novel does a good job of mainstream writing, but that was really the only thing that I found positive about the novel. Sure, Jackie has lots of time to think things over, but I do not feel that the novel has a complete sense of reality for how serious the plot line is. I would not recommend teaching this novel in a classroom unless you are looking for a book critically analyze against a novel like The Diary of Anne Frank .
Rating: Summary: The Girl In The Box Review: This story is based on an interesting premise. A young girl is abducted from her home after a fight with her two best friends. Now, she is trapped in a dark room with a small supply of food and water and a typewriter. After her first day of imprisonment, she never sees her abductor. She is left alone, with only memories from the past to dwell upon. I admire any author who can write a chapter book about a girl alone in a room and still keep it borderline interesting. Unfortunately, this book never passes borderline interesting. The author tried to use psychology instead of regular action, but even that failed. Instead of building up to a dramatic climax, the book struggles along and ends with only a small sputter. Having read the book from start to finish, I found myself only wishing that I had chosen another book from the library.
Rating: Summary: Very good! Review: This was a very good book, now under my favorites. Many reviews have probably told you the summary already. The book gets a little boring, but if you either skip some of the pointless parts or put it down, it turns out okay in the end. The only problem I have is that it has a cut-off ending. I HATE it when people do that. (But that's just me.) Does Jackie die? Does she get rescued? You really don't know, but you can make up endings, I guess. This was a very good book over all.
Rating: Summary: This book will change your life or attitude on life Review: This was one of the most incredible books I have ever read in my LIFE. This book would have been a great movie. People stop looking for excuses to hate it. You will leave with some sort of message. I read it when I was about 15 or 16 and throughout the entire book, I felt like I was in the cellar myself. I would get this incredible sense of claustrophobia when I picked the book up. If a book has that much impact on someone, it is a GOOD book. Now I am 21, and I understand so much more. Being more mature, I see how young the girl was and it has a bigger impact. When I read it, I didn't really 'grasp' the fact that she was so young. I just felt bad for her. When you can remember the plot and character of a book after all these years, it is a good book. It makes an impression on your life, and teaches you to think of realities of life. You become more aware of the things around you, and more appreciative toward the people you love.
Rating: Summary: Good Book! Review: When I first started to read this book I wasn't very into it and I put it down after a while. I went back to it later and reread the whole thing. It's about a girl named Jackie who is kidnapped and locked into a concrete cellar type place, with pretty much nothing to help her keep her mind but a ream of typing paper and a typewriter. She writes letters to herself and other people. At first I didn't like the very mysterious ending; you didn't find out if she lived, or why she was kidnapped, etc. The plot was a bit slow but interesting and I liked it because I would have probably done and thought the same things she had, such as thinking of all the different possibilities as to what was going on. Some parts of this book were a bit confusing. In Jackie's typing she referred to people that were unknown to the reader. Overall, this was a great book and I would recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: lessons Review: When I started reading it I assumed it was one of thosekidnap-adventures. It isnt. It's about analysing your thinking andyour life and getting some lessons out of them - by yourself, for yourself. When Jackie was first trapped in the cellar her first thought was to punish the guy who locked her there. Writing and analyzing is helpful...It's like that video game called Prince of Persia : you have to get through spikes and cliffs and dark halls to get to the magic potions. Overcoming those obstacles will lead you to the missing pieces.
