Rating: Summary: Constantly Constance... Review: I read Constance: A Story of Early Plymouth back in the sixth grade. I remberber it because it was a moving and realistic story. The characters were real people, not fictional. And the life of Constance was so different! (I don't know how they lived like that!) My family moved from the States a year after I read the book and I have been looking for it ever since. It stuck in my memory. I'd love to find it again and reread it to see if it is as good as I remember it to be. All in all, good read. (as I remember!)
Rating: Summary: An exciting, sad story with interesting historical details Review: I think that Constance was terrific. I gave it 5 stars. It is an excellent piece of literature that everyone has to read. I like it because it is very detailed and it feels like you are actually in the story. I also liked it because it was in diary form and easy to keep up with.
Rating: Summary: It was terrific! Review: It presents the pilgrims' story in an interesting way. The history books make the pilgrims seem boring, but Constance is slightly romantic. It also is informative about the times in which she lived. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I love it and highly recommend it as a history class book.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best!!! Review: Ok, the first time I read this book was for a 7th grade reading assignment-and that was well over 20 years ago, but this book has stayed in my heart ever since. Its a very well written story about a young girl who came over from England on the Mayflower and lived through the struggles that the Pilgrims went through in their first years of Plimouth Plantation. This is for the most part, a true story, written by Patricia Clapp, who's husband is an actual descendant of Constance. The story has adventure, romance and I felt the pain that these people went through during one of the most important times of our history. This book opened in me an interest in life in Plimouth. I was lucky enough to live in New England and visited the Plantation often. I highly recommend this book to young teens, as well as older. Somewhere I still have my copy (that I bought back when I was in 7th grade), and its a book that I would read again.
Rating: Summary: The best book I have EVER read! Review: The reason I had at first read the book was becasue I had to for a project in 7th grade. I first started to read it, and I could not put it down! The report was due in a month and I read the book in 2 days! That was 2 years ago, and every time I read it, I still can not put it down! My advise for any young reader is to read this book. I love the structure and the style of writting. Patricia Clapp wrote this story for the person with a great imagination, and for the dreamer, because you can actually picture the story so vibrantly and vividly. How you can imagine the boat leaving the docks, how cramped it is on the ride over, the sickness, the suffering, the fun, the love, you can see it all. Clapp made me want to be around during this time period to experence the lifestyle of it. To actually see how it was then, and to see it better then she has shown me. To sum it all up, I love it and I think that anyone who loves to read, loves a good romance for a young readers, and loves a little adventure, Patricia Clapp's compelling story "Constance" is for you or your yound one.
Rating: Summary: I think this book was outstanding. Review: The reason why I like the book Constance is because it is very intresting. It has lot's of detail and it seems as if you are in the story yourself.I like the thing about Constance, how she hates having to move to America But hten at the end she loves it. I think it is sad at the very beging and then happy at the end.At some parts I felt like crying because it was so sad.I thought the charaters were wonderful and exciting. At first I thought it was going to be so boring but it wasn't.You can't judge a book by it's cover. I think Patrica Clapp is a really good writer and I think I would enjoy more books from her.I truly loved this book,it was something I was actually wanted to read. I didn't like it when so many people died it was so sad. I would suggest this book to someone who would like to read. they may not like it but I did.I think I would by this book someday so I could read when ever I would like.
Rating: Summary: All around great Review: This book was very educational and enjoyable. I read it for a 7th grade assignment, and it's stayed in my heart ever since. This is a total must read.
Rating: Summary: This is an exellent book for kids 10 and up. Review: This is a story about Constance. She came to America on the Mayflower and this is a diary of her life from first setting foot on the beach,to getting married in her last entry. This book takes you through the trials and tribulations of an average american girls life. You will find yourself relating to many, many situations that take place in this book. If it is not on the best seller chart it should be! This is a one of a kind book! Very highly recomended! It deserves five and a half stars!
Rating: Summary: A fictional diary of a real young girl at Plimoth Plantation Review: This is a wonderful fictional diary of a real Pilgrim girl named Constance Hopkins. It starts on the Mayflower, but ends in February of 1626. It is one if the few young adult books that takes the reader through the first six years in Plimoth. It is very descriptive, talking about her hopes and dreams for her future, and the future of Plimoth. Another thing that makes this book so great is that all of the characters were real. There was not one fictional character, unlike most other young adult books about Plimoth. It is also a coming of age story, as she struggles with the pains of growing up. I think it is THE best book of its kind. I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Plimoth, or to anybody who would like to see what growing up in the seventeenth century, in the New World, was like.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Story of Plymouth with Intermangled Love Stories Review: This was a wonderful book of historical fiction with a fast pace that made you read and read. I loved the intermangled love stories that kept you on your toes and with these love stories it also added spice and flavor to the book. This book is highly recommened!
