Rating: Summary: I'm always trying something new... Review: After publishing my first two books, CROSSES and WEIRD ON THE OUTSIDE, I felt like I was stagnating as a writer... maybe because I started publishing when I was so young and inexperienced. Starting with WANNABE, I began experimenting. I wanted to SHOW the "wannabe" characteristics of main characters Cat and Mickey (by the way, some critics have misunderstood Cat's closet-full of unfinished short stories. My intent was to emphasize that Cat is as much a "wannabe" as her brother, full of flighty aspirations to "be"-anything). But anyway, because my writing style is generally very gritty and real, it's hard to find a way to be "artsy" in my books. Just for fun, I added the Mickey-chapters to WANNABE -- as a fun, "writer-ly" way to bring out his wannabe-ways (he's always trying to "copy" someone). Since Mickey gets most of his mobster-aspirations from the movies, I watched mob movies before writing each of the Mickey chapters in WANNABE, and if you read closely, you'll see that every Mickey chapter is actually a disguised-scene from a movie. My fans might want to re-read those chapters, to see what I mean (and feel free to let me know how I did!)... I think the Mickey chapters are kind of funny if you realize that he's not really telling it like it is, so much as he's reliving a movie in his head. Thanks for reading!
Rating: Summary: An awful read Review: I have read "Crosses" and "Tomorrow Wendy, A Love Story" by Shelley Stoerh and loved them both, so when I bought "Wannabe" i expected it to be just as good if not better. Boy, was I in for a surprise. The book has no plot whatsoever and it is obviously coming from someone who has no experience with what the book is about. I do not recomment it to ANYONE! Shelley Stoehr is normally a great author, but "Wannabe" is one of the worst books I've ever read!

Rating: Summary: Unfortunately, you can't tell a book by its cover. Review: Parents need to know that this book contains obscene and sexually explicit language. Comments on the back cover compare this book to Robinson Crusoe and Gary Paulsen's Hatchet. This is hardly the case.
Rating: Summary: A girl named Catherine who can't get out of trouble. Review: The story "Wannabe" by Shelly Stoehr is about a girl in the real life of New York City. She works at a bar called "Gattos". She has a younger brother who also does nothing but gets in trouble and two un-loving parents that just yells and beats them. She has a friend named Erica and a boyfriend named Joey Valentino. Her boss is named Mario and her co-worker is named Paulie. Catherine is kind of a different character in the story than in other characters in the stories you would find. She gets in trouble alot, smokes, does other drugs, and cusses. This is an emotionally powerful novel that describes with great intensity a trap adolescent behavior and beliefs.
