Summary: illustrates varities of themes.
Review: This book, Dragonwings, is full of emotions, including sadness, happiness, fighting, suffering, perseverance, dream, and comedy. It expresses some stereotypes about americans ,and it also points out the good relationship between Chinese immigrants and Americans. The main theme mentions about one Chinese immigrant, who had left his family to work in Demon land. He was full of dreams ,and he believed that he was a dargon in the past life. He tried to construct his dream to become true with builted glider and plane. He wish to fly as a dragon. However, finally, he had knew that nothing was more important than his family. I can learn the ideas of different culture that help me open my mind widely.I like this book. It is useful to read it- good novle.

Summary: A good book!
Review: Dragonwings was a exciting and intresting book. It gave me an idea about what it was like to live around the time of the Gold Rush.Which was very helpful for 4 th grade Gold Rush history unit in school. The story also gave me a good idea about how it is to be imagrint coming a different culture and country and that we (Americans) should respect every way of life.

Summary: AN INTERESTING NOVEL
Review: I am an ESL student in GSU. I am from Peru and this is my opinion about this novel. Dragonwings was a good and an interesting book. This story gave me a lot of information about the typical Chinese stereotype when they arrived in the 1900s. That story is special because is narrated by a kid who is showing us how he and his father survived in a new culture, and how the family loves predominate above everything else.

Summary: DRAGONWINGS, was an interesting novel for me.
Review: I am an ESL student in GSU. I came from to Mexico City and I would like to share with you, my own pint of view about "dragonwings". Reading this book was very interesting for me also was a cultural book. This book is interesting because is relating many activities that Chines people do in the USA. In the same way it contains many themes that make it interesting for the reader. This book is cultural for me, because is teaching or showing the costumes of the Chinese people and their traditions. The book, I think has a message and the message probably is: "Keeping the family together is better than the material things".

Summary: Disapointing
Review: I thought this book was disapointing. When I first decided to read the book it looked informative and interesting. I found a stereotypical, drawn out, boring and all together unpleasent reading experience.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Very Disturbing!
Review: I read this book in 6th grade and found it extremly disturbing. There were many mentions of prostitution, opium smoking, and cutting off men's testacles. The whole Chinese-American scoiety seemed voilent and cruel. This book depressed me for about a month. Don't read it!

Summary: One of the Greatest Historical Fiction Books Ever Written
Review: This book is a great book. It is rare that a children's novel can display such power in such simple writing. Yep totally banishes the typical Chinese stereotype, and replaces it with a story that is close to the truth. The struggles that these courageous people took are told in an "unforgiving manner", making for a perfect reading experience. Those who dismiss this book for its profanity and "meanings" are totally wrong, and do not completely see the "brutal truth." Yep, through his book, reminds us that Asian-Americans were, and still are, one of the most sterotyped races in the U.S. I am grateful for this book, and I praise the author for creating such a fine novel. Great characters, great plot, great book. Again, this is a book without flaw. It deserves to be read in every school.

Summary: Students love it so much they don't know they are learning!
Review: This book was the finest piece of juvenile historical fiction (despite the author's line that it was intended to be more of a historical fantasy) that I have ever read. The story is exciting and fun, the characters genuine, and the experiences conveyed in the book are the same ones that numerous of immigrants in the period of the Asian Exclusion Act experienced. The problems of racial prejudice, hate, drug abuse, violence, self-worth, and rewarding role-model relationships -- all of which are vital to students growing up in America today -- were addressed wonderfuly in this book!

Summary: In my opinion, this was Yep's finest novel.
Review: DragonWings is the story of a young boy who survives the harsh world of the 'Demon's Land'. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, because of the great description and the realtivity. I think very few people are aware of the prejudice acts that went on (and sometimes still does). I liked the format of this book, and the dreamscape, I believe, was my favorite part. I recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction/fantasy. The Serpent's Children, and Mountain Light, were two of my other favorites.

Summary: Enough with the "demon" stuff!
Review: This book has an average plot and interesting characters. However, I did not appreciate the fact that North Americans were stereotyped as "demons". I understand that the boy wasn't gifted mechanically, but the puzzlement with everything was annoying at times. The book got better as it went on, but it was still not good enough for me to classify it as "average".
