Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: I read this book because Ann Rinaldi is one of my favorite authors. I wasn't dissappointed with the Coffin Quilt. My favorite characters were Fanny, Rosanna, and Alifair (I hated her so much!) It was interesting when Ro ran off with Johnse hatfeild, but I wish that we got to actually hear what they were saying, instead of what only Fanny thought. Towards the end it got really good. I felt so sorry for everyone in this book! Especially Fanny: Everyone she knew was going crazy...
Rating: Summary: The Coffin Quilt The Feud between the Hatfields and McCoys Review: I read this book for a class assignment. I never read an Ann Rinaldi book before but now I am a big fan. I love historical fiction and I had heard of the Hatfield and McCoy feud but never knew if it was based on fact or fiction. Ms. Rinaldi tells the story from the voice of the youngest member of the McCoy family, Fanny. Through her a tale of family loyalty and betrayal. Fanny becomes caught in a tug-of-war of loyalty to her favorite sister Roseanna who runs off with a Hatfield. Fanny loves her sister but is placed in a position between her sister and her parents. Weaving throughout tale is the story of the start of the feud between the Hatfields and McCoys, many years earlier. But no one seems to be able mend the feud and we see the breakdown of a families. I loved this book. What else I liked was how the author then gives you the actual facts and history of the Hatfield and McCoy feud. This book is a wonderful read!
Rating: Summary: A must read for ANYONE Review: I think anyone would like this book. Boys, girls, adults, people who like historical fiction, violence, romance, or horror. I have to admit that the other Ann Rinaldi books I have read have been extremely boring but this one turned out to be great. This is definately one of my favorite books even though there was something strange about this book that I can't put a name to. Maybe that was why I liked it. Because it was so different from anything I've ever read before. But in a good way. And believe me, I've read a lot of books. 289 to be exact. (age 15) Anyways, I think everyone should read this book and enjoy it as much as I did. "The Coffin Quilt" is more than just a book. It taught me something about life. And books like that, are truly wonderful books.
Rating: Summary: WAY TOO VIOLENT Review: I'm sorry, but way too many people were killed in this book, i know thats what the feud was about, but it practically pulled me over the edge, i couldn't read it. I need books to have a happy ending. I love Ann Rinaldi's writing, but all the guilt in this book made me very depresses. Read The Last Silk Dress, or Time Enough for the Drums, or Wolf by the Ears for a good read.
Rating: Summary: ummm Review: If you really like books that have family fueds, killing, and a little bit of drama...this is it! In my own perspective, I did not really like this book. The transitions in the book are slow. That is one thing I didn't really like; Everything in each chapter sounded alike. This is definitly not my type of book but it may be for you.
Rating: Summary: The Coffin Quilt Review: My grandma who is from West Virginia bought me this book and I first thought it would be lame, because I found the dialogue a bit over exagerated and I had heard this same story so many times, by spending the first six years of my life right where it happened. I was wrong. It was an in-depth story of two tragic lovers who elope and stoke ancient fires of hate and glory only to for their world to be torn down around them.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Book Review: Roseanna McCoy never thought that there would be so much killing and hatred when she ran off with Johnse Hatfield. Everyone knew that there was a feud going on between the Hatfield's and the McCoy's, and Roseanna thought she would fix it be running off and trying to marry Johnse. The only one that knew this was Ro's little sister Fanny, and she wasn't telling anyone! ...it is still my favorite. The author is Ann Rinaldi, also my favorite author. This book holds such great suspense in many places. I think this was such a great book because of the way the author writes. "The first time I ever saw Yeller Thing is when Ro ran off". This is a quote from trustworthy little Fanny. Every time something bad was going to happen, she saw this creature that nobody else could see. It smelled worse than a skunk, had glowing eyes, and a piercing scream. He was something you couldn't explain. This first-person story takes placed in West Virginia in the 1880's. I would recommend this to anyone who likes historical-fiction that is a little different. If you go to the library and can't find a good book to read, pick up The Coffin Quilt. It is a good book that you can't put down, and you don't want to end. Remember; never judge a book by its cover!
Rating: Summary: The Coffin Quilt Review: The Coffin Quilt by Ann Rinaldi is a fictional story based on the historic Hatfield and McCoy feud that occurred near the Kentucky-West Virginia border. Told from the eyes of Fanny McCoy, the youngest of 14 children, this captivating novel tells how the feud, which has been rankling since the Civil War, suddenly explodes into a maelstrom of hatred and violence when Roseanna McCoy elopes with handsome Johnse Hatfield in 1880. Although Roseanna is soon returned to her family, bringing with her an unfinished coffin-decorated quilt and an unborn baby, the damage has already been done and the feud slowly escalates until one terrible night of killing. Rinaldi is adept in her storytelling, providing vivid details and homespun language to accompany her Romeo and Juliet styled story. Although the novel is a tad morbid and slightly difficult to follow with its large cast of characters and tendency to jump around, it still makes an enjoyable read that historical fiction fans will love.
Rating: Summary: This book is COOL!!!! Review: The Coffin Quilt has some very interesting points and gives a glimpse of the past of two families; The McCoys and The Hatfields. This book is very exciting and educational. I would recommend this book to anyone because this book is absolutely splendid. THIS BOOK IS COOL!!!

When Fanny's sister Rosanna decides to run off with one of tha enemys sons and have a baby, that is when the killings start. When Rosanna runs off with one of the hatfeilds sons {Jhonse} and whent ehy try to get marriedDuing this they ask for Devil Anse approval and he says no. After that Roseanna finds out that she is pregnant. Then the killings start. First it was Pharmer, Bud, and Tolbert. Then comes Afliar and Calvin. And last Roseanna.
