Summary: I have read all of the books and the adult stories to my son
Review: I teach children's lit. and find these books wonderful..I am truly a Great Brian fan.(one parent mentions the values in the stories may be suspect-but if you read all the stories, especially The Great Brain Reforms, it is clear that swindling people is not valued in the end.) I grew up a non-morman in Utah and just love how this family finds fault and good in many religious faiths-it is very honest. this is especailly true in "Papa Married a Morman" PLEASE SOMEONE REPRINT ALL OF THESE!

Summary: I remember this book from when I was a nine year old boy...
Review: I never read any of the books in the Great Brain series; they were actually read to me when I was a child. It was a ritual that my mother and I had every night. Just after I got in bed she would sit or lie down next to me and pull out a book. Over the years she read many different series, and to be honest, at the age of 23 all of these stories are a bit of a blur, except one series, The Great Brain. The Great Brain was by far my favorite I remember the stories as though they were read to me yesterday. One bit, which I remember particularly, is a scene in one of the books involving a headmaster (I think) and one of the brothers. I remember something being said about adults finding it admirable when children looked them in the eye while being addressed. That little bit has stayed with me all my life. After my Mother read that part I immediately started holding my head high and looking every adult who spoke to me in the eye. I've done that ever since, and when I do it I remember The Great Brain. Anyhow, I thought I would share this the world, especially any parent looking for a book that their child might like. If you haven't done it yet, you should consider reading this series to your own kid.

Summary: I love this book series!!!!!
Review: I've read all these books and I am shaking with laughter every time I read them. I would recommend these books to everyone, (if you like adventures and mischief). I've read all the books over and over and to me these books never get boring or dull!

Summary: The only book I truly couldn't put down
Review: I affirm everything the other 5-star reviews say. I remember pouring through the six-book series in a week when I was younger, then doing it again. Fitzgerald wrote to the side of me that CRAVED planning and executing unique projects. I haven't changed and that's why I'm reading these again.

Summary: childhood classic
Review: Like everyone else, these were my favorite books as a kid. The brilliant mischieviousness, expressed with great humor; the wonderfully developed characters, all of it keeps you riveted through the whole series of (I believe) 6 books. I can't wait to introduce my kids to them, and admittedly, can't wait to read them again myself!

Summary: These books are priceless jewels of literature.
Review: Approximately 25 years ago, I first discovered The Great Brain. Life has never been the same! The stories were so hilarious, yet poignant, that they cemented my relationship with the written word. Both my brother and I reread every available title until the librarian commented that we really didn't need to check them out-we should know every word by heart! I have searched for these books for years wishing to share them with my own children. Not only will I now do so, but will also share them with my 140 sixth grade reading students each year! Thanks, Amazon!

Summary: Childhood favorite
Review: I remember first reading the Great Brain series over 20 years ago. Fitzgerald does a fantastic job of describing turn of the century frontier life through the "little brains" of his narrator, J.D. I think the books are not so much about how a smart aleck kid cons others with his "Great Brain" but about how he sometimes finds his great heart, too. (Remember the Erector set story?) I would recommend this to both girls and boys - it's really a timeless classic.

Summary: Absolutely the best
Review: I just found out there was a new book published in 1995, can't wait to get my hands on it! I had every one of the Hardy Boys hardcovers when I was growing up, but The Great Brain was my favorite series. These books are perfect in every way, and the perfect ratings in here were no surprise to me at all. It's impossible not to love them from the thrill of the very first chapter through the sadness of realizing you've finished the last one.

Summary: Still as great as when I was 8 years old!
Review: I read the whole series of Great Brain books when I was in grade school and I just re-purchased them for my niece as a Xmas present. Of course, I just had to re-read them all and they still stand up as great books even 25 years later. What a fantastic series for any youngster!
