Rating: Summary: The McJerrys Review: Leukemia can kill you, but it didn't kill the love between Joey and John. The touchdown in this book is when a 12-year-old boy helps his older brother win the highest trophy in college football, the Heisman Trophy. On top of brotherly love, this book has amazing detail such as, "But Joey had already bolted off, his eyes on his brother, who was drifting back to cover a pass receiver angling downfield into his zone." Something for Joey was something for us, too.
Rating: Summary: PERSONAL AND HEART WARMING Review: READING "SOMETHING FOR JOEY" CAME AFTER HAVING MET AND WRITTEN A SPORTS ARTICLE ABOUT JOEYS' BROTHER JOHN IN 1973. IT WAS A BOOK I READ WITHOUT EVER PUTTING IT DOWN. THE PEOPLE ARE VERY REAL AND THAT MADE IT ESPECIALLY INTERESTING TO ME. I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT THERAPY TOOL FOR FAMILIES IN CRISIS WHO FACE THE REALITY OF CANCER.
Rating: Summary: something for joey is an emotional heart warming story Review: something for joey is an emotional story of two brothers who together show an overwelming sense of courage, compassion and love. Joey is a young boy living with leukemea and his older brother John, heisman trophy winner, playes every game just for Joey. this book is at least a nine it shows the bond and love that anyone with time can share with someone they love.
Rating: Summary: Something For Joey Review Review: Something For Joey was a very inspiring and interesting book. Joey is a young child trying to cope with a disease(leukemia) and only has one hero in the world...his older brother John. John is a football player who attends Penn State and is the star of the team. Joey lives to see John play and score touchdowns. The book is the true story of the emotional hardships and triumphs the family goes through with Joey's treatments and his undying love for his brother. The book ends with a great symbol of the love the family shares that I will not unveil to you. This book will make you laugh as well as cry and will make you realize just how important your family is.
Rating: Summary: Sideline Effects Review: The statement, "fighting for your life" has new meaning when used to describe nine-year-old Joey. This suspense filled drama, Something For Joey, tackled us. When you read about Joey (a boy suffering from leukemia) and the side effects he has from the common childhood disease, chickenpox, your emotions will fumble. The combination of compassion and action kept us interested in the book until the very last page. "John was at his side, at Joey's side, the whole time he was sick." This book was at our side until it was finished.
Rating: Summary: Something For Joey was so emotional it made me cry. Review: The story is about Joey who is dying of leukemia and fighting for his life while his brother is becoming a superstar. Joey and John share a special bond that John embraces by giving Joey the Heismann Trophy that he won. I read this book in a day which shows how much I enjoyed it. You will end up crying at the emotional and physical battle Joey puts up. You must read this book!
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: This book is about a kid fighting leukemia and the older brother who loves him. Its about life and our mortality. I read this when I was in Junior High. I still think about it now, 15 years later, off and on. This book was one of the more personal stories I've read about cancer. My husband was diagnosed with cancer last year and after intensive chemo he is now cured. Not everyone is that lucky. I am glad Joey's family decided to share Joey's life with me. Each life that is taken should be so remembered.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK ROCKS Review: This book is amazing. If you need a book to read this one is it. READ IT. It can be sad at some parts but it really says a lot. GREAT BOOK
Rating: Summary: My #1 Book of All Time! Review: This book put me into reading. I can't understand how Peck could write such a good story without me knowing. I didn't eve know he had written this book and i think this book should recieve great awards for the effort put into the book and the final result. It was obvious that Richard Peck put something specail into this book that no other book has. I have seen, through this book the ingredients of a spectacular book. The vivid language has made the feelings of John and his brother Joey, a subject of Leukemia, combine together to make what i think is the world's greatest book. John, a very good but not publisised football player for the Nittany Lions, has what seems to be the closest relationship with his brother, Joey. Joey has an extreme case of Leukemia where his white blood cells and his bone marrow are not strong enough and are too scarce to fight off many mild diseases such as the Chicken Pox. But despite the differences between them in age, about 10 years, John accomplishes everything for his younger brother. An example of this extreme brotherly connection is when John scores 4 touchdowns, something he had never accomplished before, just because it was Joey's birthday. Joey's life is very difficult, being in unbearable pain at times and having to see his doctors very often, but what seems to be the only thing that keeps Joey alive is the great ecstasy that goes through his mind when John scores touchdowns. When John wins the Heisman Trophy, the most priced possesion of great football players, he dedicates it to Joey, which is by far the best part of the book.
