Summary: Something for Joey
Review: "Something for Joey" is the most inspirational book i have ever read. This book is about two brothers, joined by love for each other and for football. While one fights through tought defenses, the other fights against a disease that will likely kill him, leukemia. The end of the book maybe be emotional, but is a fabulous ending. I would give this book 6 stars if I could.

Summary: An Inspirational Story about Two Brothers
Review: "Something for Joey" is the type of book that constantly sends chills running down your back. These types of books are the ones that are actually worth reading. It puts you in the suspense at some points and then you have to keep reading on to find out what happens and you can't put the book down. An example from the book would be from the end when John is receiving the Heisman Trophy. He is making his speech, trying desperately not to cry, and announces to four thousand people, plus thousands watching on TV; that his little brother is ill with leukemia. John tells everyone how people say he shows courage on the football field. But goes on saying, "Joey lives with the pain all the time, his courage is round the clock." Then he gives the trophy to Joey telling everyone, "It's more his than mine, because he's been such an inspiration to me." Obviously this little boy was an inspiration. He begged John to score four touchdowns, but John didn't think he could do it. He wanted to please Joey so he tried harder and he did it. It shows Joey was an inspiration to John and John was an inspiration to Joey, as well as his strength for surviving. They helped each other and kept each other strong. That shows a lot of inner human strength.

Summary: I Love This Book...
Review: "Something for Joey" explains the love between two brothers and how even if you have a sickness like Joey did you have to go on with your life and live each day to the fulliest. This really was a 5 star book and I recommend it to anyone who loves a true story and the bond between two brothers and a family and everyones courage to help out.

Summary: Reading Summary of SOMETHING FOR JOEY
Review: Andrew Ahring June 24 READING SUMMARY

Something For Joey, a book by Richard E. Peck, about a young kid named Joey aged 9 who has leukemia, and his brother who is a star football player for Penn State Lions. This book is based on the actual events in the lives of these two people. It takes place in Pennsylvania around 1972. John becomes Joey's idol, for who he is and the talent that he has , playing football really well. The best part of Joeys week is when he gets to see his brother play. One day Joey asks for a present from John that would be all most impossible for John to do. Soon enough Joey's older brother John becomes inspired by what Joey must endure as he goes through a painful treatment for leukemia. When John excepts the 1973 Heisman Trophy, he stands up to give a emotional speech about his brother Joey which touches the heart of everyone in the room. John does something that his parents will never forget.

I thought this book was all right. I certainly would not read this on my own time because its just not my kind of book. I choose this book because of the fact that it had something to do with football. Its one of those typical books about a kid and his struggle against leukemia to survive. Other than that I read it because I had to, once I choose this book. All in all it comes close to being a boring read, and the only thing that kept me interested were the football games.

Summary: Something for the sensitive
Review: Fun! Exciting! Action Packed! That's NOT Something for Joey. Based on the cover you may think this is a football book. We got tricked into that, also. The book's main subject isn't totally based on football; it's a loving book about the relationship of a boy and his brother. The most fast-action pass we received was when the little boy goes to the hospital. This book is for people who want a serious novel with a well thought-out meaning. This is not for someone who wants a funny, action packed story.

Summary: Awesome, Awesome, Awesome
Review: I first read this book my junior year of high school and the story has stayed with me for 12 yrs now. This is such an inspirational story about a young boy suffering from leukemia and his older brother who plays college football. The older brother finds a way to make his brother's life a little brighter, by making touchdowns. I laughed, I cried throughout this book. It's wonderfully written and emphasizes the bond between the brothers and the entire family. I think this should be required reading for all high school students.

Summary: An All TIme Favorite
Review: I fisrst read this when I was just a little older than Joey. It has been one of my favorite books ever since. Be warned, if the picture of the football player on the cover is what turns you on to this book, you will NOT like it. This book is NOT about a macho tough guy football player. It is about the love that a kind, gentle college player has for his little brother who is suffering from lukemia, and the special closeness they share. It is about a close knit family dealing with a devastating illness with faith and love. It is about a very brave little boy who is fighting for his life. Through this book John Cappeletti becomes someone to admire, not for being a good football player, but for being a good, loving person. In his speech accepting the Heismann Trophy, John minimizes his own accomplishments and tells a room full of people how much he admires his little brother and that his brother shows courage way beyond what John shows on the field. If you are looking for a touching, inspirational story about a real family dealing with a real problem, this is an excellent choice. If you want to read about football, look somewhere else.

Summary: Sorry, but this one defenitely isn't the best...
Review: I never finished this book, although I have read about the first half of it. I was supposed to read it for summer reading in school, but it was too boring, so i had to switch. There are no exciting parts, nothing much really happens at all. The only thing that really kept me reading that far was the fact that it took place not too far from here; in fact, just a few miles. The roads and towns are very familiar (like Upper Darby, and West Chester Pike).
