Summary: I have never read the book. Will somebody tell me about it
Review: I'd like to know the names, if they got pushed into a storm on purpose, what?

Summary: Timeless Classic for All Ages
Review: I'm 42 years old and still find this tale as entertaining and well written now as I did 30 years ago. A must read for anyone who is looking for an adventure off the beaten track in which one can lose oneself in a realistic-like fantasy and almost believe it could happen. Enjoy !

Summary: Swiss Family Robinsin
Review: I'm going to tell you what I liked about the book and what I didn't like of book. I think that the book was very good because it tells you what to do if you get broke drown on a trip.

Well, the things that I thought was good about this book is when they built their own boat to get to a island or some place to stay on so they can figure out what to do next. I thought the part with the man falling in quick sand was cool because the horse pulled him out of the quick sand. The part when they went out looking for some food was interesting because they found some good food to eat when they were out looking for the food. The part when they found the monkey I thought was really good. I thought that the monkey was cute.

The part that I didn't like was the part when the ship frist broke down because they didn't know what to do at that time at the begining.

The part when they figured out they was not the only ones on the island. They found out that there was a lady on the island too. The lady stayed with them until they found out what to do next after that.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I'm going to find some more books written by this auther that wrote this book.I hope that I get to read more books about this auther that wrote this review on.

Summary: "Swiss's Isle"
Review: In the beginning of the story it seems so Gillingan's isle with the shipwreck and all. But, a few chapters later and it's jungle boy slash brady bunch. Of all the characters in an abundant amount of adventure movies and books, the Robinson's would be the last ones to be "voted off the island". It's as though they were familiar with the idea to navigate the island, plan routes, and all the other steps they used to survive on the island. The father, Mr. Robinson, sure had a head on his shoulders. He taught his boys all about the plants and animals. Just about anything they laid their eyes on he could build into a mini-lesson. The parts when the author went really graphic on the killing the animals part was tight. It really set a visual image in the reader's head...maybe even a nightmare... Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Robinson, Fritz, Ernst, Franz, and Jack worked together on a bridge, which enabled them to cross a small stream. When they finished it was a definite success because they didn't have to skip from rock to rock trying to reach the other side. That's just one example of their ample attemps to problem solving. Their daily expeditions and hunting trips were hard work but rewarding. Like the time they found sugar cane and had to carry the heavy stocks home, but then they got the opportunity to eat it and share it with their family. Over time the boys evolved into superb hunter-gatherers as well as being enlightened about the different species. As well as having knowledge about the island, they read the bible and studied different languages. Knowing more than one language helped them to talk to people they encountered. Later in the story, a few of the boys were able to return to their home country to share their lore and journeys. As a family they accomplished laborious tasks and events, prospered in the plant and animal life, and were reunited with love towards each other through their daily bible readings.

Summary: Not A Book For Everone
Review: Johann David Wyss' tale of a family shipwrecked on a deserted tropical island is a book that a person can have mixed feelings about. Most of the mixed feelings are dealing with the realisticness of this book. When the whole crew of the ship mysteriously leaves the ship by lifeboats in the night they are never seen or heard from again. Even when the Robinsons got to the deserted island, which was visible from the ship, no crew members were around. It makes no sense for the crew members just to leave to sea when they are right next to an island. Another non-realistic thing about this book is that they just kept finding more and more new food sources everywhere they looked. I thought that it was a little too convenient for the Robinsons. And Mr. Robinson seemed to know everything about everything, even pointless stuff that you wouldn't think that anyone would know. They might have been on a deserted island, but it was almost as though they had it easy. They book itself was written good, just some of the ideas made me detour from this book. If a person is looking for a well-written book, then I would definitely recommend this book. But if they are looking for a good story line and a interesting plot, then I would recommend that they look for another book.

Summary: Swiss Family Robinson
Review: Many say that the classic Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss is better in the books. After all, word has it, book is better than movie. But the fact is, there are many different "Swiss Family Robinson" books out there. There are the boring ones, the educational ones, the religious ones, and the exciting ones. On of the books I read suposedly written by Wyss, was an educational, yet boring kind of book. Near the end, there were no pirates coming to take the 0cabin "boy" away. Most of the books are NOT like the Disney movie that so many have seen. The only Swiss Family book that is like the Disney movie, is the Disney vesion book. I rest my case.

Summary: Read it out loud to your kids for a wonderful experience
Review: Never mind the film versions; the original unabridged Swiss Family Robinson is an exciting epic with a lot in it for the whole family.

Our third grade teacher read to us from this book every day and I could hardly wait for the next installment. Finally I got my own copy for a birthday gift, sat on the couch and read it cover to cover in one go. I still have this book, decades later.

From the opening, thrilling tempest scene to the very end and the "rescue", this book has plenty of action as well as creative solutions to problems. There is a lot of material for discussion, how the family solved problems, how they handled disagreements, adversity, disappointment, building of character.

This book definitely teaches values along with the adventure and the values are linked in such a way as to be an integral part of the story.

And Swiss Family Robinson is never boring. There is always an exciting new beast to be discovered, a new plant to use for food or clothing, a new machine or tool to be built, a new part of the island to explore. This is a wonderful book to read out loud to kids until they are old enough to enjoy reading it themselves. If you are bored with re-runs on TV, turn off the box and spend a half-hour or hour every evening reading this aloud. Everyone will have a great time, and kids who are read to, become readers themselves.

Summary: A Classic novel for the best
Review: Read as a helpless family is hopelessly abandoned on a desert island. It is amazing how they build the perfect dreamhouse using nothing but hard work, ingenious inventions, and nature.

Summary: More - and less - than a family version Robinson Crusoe.
Review: Similarly to Robinson Crusoe, the Swiss Family Robinson's ship gets hung up on rocks off the coast of a mysterious land. Again, similarly, they manage to salvage some things from the wreck, and provide for themselves off the land. Here the similarities end.

The Swiss Family Robinson plot line is way less convincing! The entire crew leaves the ship by lifeboat in the night, and is never heard from again - and no reason is given for their desertion of just this one family! Oddly enough, their "wreck" never gets really wrecked, but remains intact enough to plunder endlessly. Not to mention that since it was stocked to supply a brand new settlement, it has everything they could possibly need. Fruit trees, livestock, seeds, tools, even a forge and a little ship! Every time they turn around they stumble over another food source or other resource! And Mr. Robinson is a seemingly endless storehouse of knowledge about obscure tropical plants and animals and their uses.

If you are a realist, it is a bit much to swallow!

It is also very religious, and loaded with little morality speeches. There is nothing about illness, all injuries are minor, and nobody ever gets depressed with their lot! And all are continually very grateful for God's providence.

It is a very pretty picture of a family stranded in Eden, all working hard and cheerfully together. Just lovely, but much more sanitized than the truly convincing story of Robinson Crusoe.

Summary: excellent reading!
Review: Swiss Family Robinson is a classic everyone should read. It is fiction with a lesson. It teaches morals, integrity, as well as stimulating the imagination. I think it would be a valuable lesson for all of us to live that way for a while.
