Summary: Swiss family Robinson
Review: I just can't get into this book, even though I've tried. I know it was written long ago, and in a different language, but the dialogue is just ridiculous. Other classics that I've enjoyed presented similar hurdles, but this one was just too much. Perhaps the fact that I'm not 10 years old anymore (or 20, or...) didn't help. I wanted to enjoy this like I enjoyed my recent first reading of Robinson Crusoe, but it wasn't to be. Maybe you'll love it, but I abandoned it after several chapters and gave it over to my 8yr old, who hasn't been tempted to read it yet.

Summary: Swiss Family Robinson
Review: I personally thought the book was very good. I'm a student from MLMS middle school but it still is a book to keep you eyes on the book.

It tells you many ways you can survive if you get stranded and that can happen anytime you are on a trip. The book tells you many things that could happen to any person. I think was very informative. The book starts out kind of boring but after about the third chater I really got into it. Most of the reviews I read stated that it was not very good and that it was informative for if your stranded. I think this book is good for childrrn of all ages. I enjoyed it and I'm in middle school. I hope the people that are reading this book or maybe are thinking about it do becaus in my opion it is very good.

Summary: Swiss Family Robinson
Review: I personally thougt this book was written extremlly well. It did seem as though this book was a litte childish at first, but after I started reading it,I discovered that I would recommend this book for any age. The book was filled with many unexpected twists and turns. I must admit the book started out very slowly, but around the third chapter it started to pick up the pace. When their ship was wrecked I woundered how the family would surive. I thought it was very clever how the family got all of the animals off the wrecked ship.It was also extremlly interesting to watch the family grow and learn together. This adventure would bring a family closer together as they had to struggle to survive. This closeness was shown when a boa constrictor attacked the campsite. The three boys worked together to kill the snake. This book gave you an idea of what it would be like to live stranded on a desert island. In some cases the book told you how a person would surive in the wild. The book did keep my interest and I enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the ending as it ended differently than I had expected. To find out what I mean you will have to read the book. Good luck in your reading and have a fun adventure.

Summary: This is a horrible book
Review: I picked up this book to read with my family because it is one of the "classics" that I did not read as a child. What a mistake. The callous slaughter of animals is really sad. The combination of plants and animals from around the world is ridiculous. The story line is weak. And I can recall of only one time where "the mother" is referred to by her given name. This is the only book that we've read that did not have my children begging for "just one more chapter, please!"

Summary: What is it with the reviewers?
Review: I read The Swiss Family Robinson when I was 14 years old, and wasn't bothered at all by any of the violence, religious perspective, or anything else. It's an entertaining book, and so what if our socio-political climate is different than the 19th century's? No reason to bemoan the work and spill the bleeding heart about it. If Wyss rewrote it today, in 2001, I hope he wouldn't change a thing.

Summary: An exellent adventure that anyone will love!
Review: I read this book a month ago, and it still dances in my head. I have some advice:at first it might seem a little boring, but keep reading! It gets a lot more interesting. I like the resourcefulness of the family and I almost regretted the story came to an end. I'm 11 years old, and I have read a wide range of books. This one, for sure, deserves to be a classic.

Summary: The Book Of The World!
Review: I really liked the book "The Swiss Family Robinson." It has a lot of action-like things that make it so exiting to read. How the Family Robinson survived without anything, except what was on the shipwreaked boat. It was very cool, with all the exotic animals. The wars against animals made me read on and on for the adventure and excitment. This book is for venturesome readers. You should read it, or you will be missing out.

Summary: warning!
Review: I want anyone else who is considering ordering this book toknowthat this version is severely abridged. All references to the family's faith in God are removed, as well as other description. This may or may not be what you are looking for, but it does completely change the character of the story. This volume is about 150 pages, compared to my unabridged paperback, now sadly falling apart, which is 445 pp.

Summary: Timeless, as long as you don't compare to the movie!
Review: I wanted to read this book for a long time, being a fan of the old Disney movie growing up. The first thing I noticed was how much bloodier the book is. The outdated mentality of shooting something because you don't know what it is was at first, appaling, until I allowed myself to remember when this tale was written. The story was put to the page long before animal rights activisim or Political correctness were a way of life. Written in the very infancy of Science this book has a pretty enlightened approach, which might make it difficult for younger readers, as well as the outdated language. The action scenes were vivid in their detail and I truly felt like I was part of the action. Everything you might want to know about surviving on a lush, tropical, deserted isle that is fortified with just about every imaginable food source (pretty convenient, eh?) can be found in this book. Danger galore, action to the extreme. Just don't expect pirates or tigers in pits! This is what the Disney movie was based on, and after reading this you'll see where the film took some major liberites with its source material. A fun, historical literary excursion, but not for the squeamish!
