Summary: The Year Without Michael
Review: Despite the fact that I was disappointed with the ending of a Year Without Michael by Susan Beth Pfeffer, my overall opinion of the book is that it is an enthralling story of a family breaking apart. The problem was identified quickly, and from there the story flowed along with great suspense and anticipation. The plot was well developed and I could almost feel the tension of the characters forming. Overall, I was very much satisfied with the book- I hope there is a sequel to make a final ending! I would recommend this book to kids of a mature age- there is some harsh language and abuse, but it is mostly a good read that shouldn't been put aside.

Review: I am still in school and we have to read to get points to get a better grade. So I was stuck on what book so I just picked up The year without michael and loved it so much, I couldn't put it down. But i was annoyed when they never told what happened to him! Still I think everyone should read it. Also, I am hoping for a sequal!

Review: I found this book when I was a freshman in highschool and we had to read SSR. Silent, sustained reading. I never thought that a book that I found in the school library could be so touching and change my outlook on life. This book is so inspiring and absolutely beautiful. It is thought-provoking and heart-breaking. I won't give away the end, but the ending definitely makes you think and makes your heart hurt. I saw a little bit of my own family in this story. Like the book says this book is about separating and coming together, breaking apart and becoming whole. I am now a sophmore in college, five years after reading this, and of all the books I've read (political science, government, and even To Kill a Mockingbird) this is still my favorite. Read it and you'll understand!

Summary: A GREAT BOOK FOR ALL AGES
Review: I listened to this story on audiocassette and was surprised when I found out it was aimed at 9-12 year olds. I am almost 40 and enjoyed it. The story is about 13 year old Michael Chapman who disappears without a trace and leaves his family wondering whether he is dead or alive. The story is seen mainly through the eyes of his older sister, Jody, who is at first sad, and depressed. Then as the months go by without hearing anything about her brother, she decides to get on with her life, and it seems to be going well for awhile, but reality catches up with her and she realizes that things are never going to be the same. Her mother takes it hardest of all and with nowhere else to throw her anger and frustration, takes it out on her youngest daughter. The story had a realistic view of how this would probably have felt for the different members of the family. I hoped too, that Michael would suddenly show up in the end, or that they would at least find his body and be able to put things to rest, but that isn't the way the author chose to end the story. We are left without an easy ending and I think a sequel would be a good idea. I recommend this book to any age group, young or old.

Summary: great
Review: I read this book more than ten years ago, when I was in junior high school. It was amazing. All the people who were dissappointed by ending should think about the families that really go through this ordeal. For too many of them they never get closure. Soon after reading the book I had the opportunity to meet the author. She was asked if there would ever be a follow up, and her reply was no. In her eyes, Michael had died, and there was nothing left to write.

Summary: a very powerful book
Review: I think I read this when I had just graduated high school and I was leaving for college. I still remember the last two lines of the book. Even thinking about those lines sends a chill up and down and gets me teary-eyed. First of all let me say that even though the main character is a female, this is not just for young women. It is for both guys and girls alike, a book for everyone. So don't let the gender of the protaganist cause you to walk away from it. Anyway, I think this book is right on and is pretty accurate as to how a family would deal with a missing sibling/son. The dynamics as the family unravels, as each day goes by without hearing any news about what happened to their son. I do not have a problem with the ending, and actually I think a sequel would be self-defeating. I think this book is complete in and of itself. Not all things in life have tidy endings, and that is what made the book all the more powerful for me. Enjoy!

Summary: Michael Chapman vanishes w/o a clue, leaves a grievin family
Review: I was a bit disapionted when I read this book! I expected from the comments of the sales paragraphs that they found out what happened to Michael! Please get back to me if you have written to the author and found out what became of Michael!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! ! ! ! !! !! !! !!!!!!And the Chapman Family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review: overall, it was a pretty good book. I loved it..and i co uldn't put it down..and then it got to the end. I hated the ending. it didn't give you anything. it gave you no closure whatsoever. it left you wondering.and that would be okay if there was like..a sequel or something. but you have no idea what happens to michael. you have no idea if he's dead, alive, kidnapped, ran away. and that upset me. i wanted them to find out SOMETHING. i was just very disapointed with the ending.
