Rating: Summary: The Exciting Adventure Of Jay Berry Lee Review: Jay Berry Lee, the main character, who lives in the Ozark Mountains, finds a bunch of monkeys that got away from a crashed circus train. They are worth 156 dollars. Wow! Jay Berry is very determined to catch these monkeys, because he wants a pony and 22 gun. How will Jay Berry catch these extremely smart monkeys, that might be able to outsmart him? Read this book, because it teaches you many lessons like don't always put your needs first. Put more important needs first. It also is very exciting. It really intrigued me. If you like adventures, you will like this book.
Rating: Summary: This book was so funny, but deep too Review: Jay Berry Lee, age 14, lives on a farm in the Ozarks. One day, he and his dog, Rowdy, find a poster saying that a circus train crashed and all the monkeys are loose! There is a huge reward for the monkeys, so Jay decides to hunt those monkeys down. Jay has many adventures with the monkeys, because these are no dumb monkeys. These are specially trained circus monkeys, and they have a really smart leader. Jay tries traps and nets, but neither of those work. The monkeys manage to outsmart him and get him in trouble every time. Then there is a huge storm, which changes everything. Jay has a dilemma, though. If he gets the reward money, will he use it to buy himself a horse, or will he give it to his sister to fix her crippled leg? This book was so cute. I read it on an airplane, and when I got to Montreal, I didn't want to go out and sightsee because I was busy reading this great book. The characters are so deep in this book; you can tell exactly what Jay is feeling and thinking, and you really get to love him. The story is very original, and extremely well written. I have read this book so many times, and I love it more each time. It is funny and loveable, but not shallow at all. This sounds cliche, but it's a real heartwarming story.
Rating: Summary: Summer of the Monkey's Review: I kinda like the part when the monkey's kept on outsmarting Jay Berry, then laughing at him and him. The only part I didn't like is when he was in the hole and a snake was in there too.I think that it was nice for Jay Berry to do that for his sister. I am a lso glad that he did all that work to catch those monkey's and get that pony and that .22 gun that he wanted. This book is about a boy that was trying to catch some monkey's that ran away from a circus train that had crashed. They said that if you catch them you could get a reward.

Rating: Summary: Summer of the Monkeys Review: I like the book Summer of the Monkeys because I like the author of the book. The author uses alot of descriptive words. I also like how he puts the time period and the place of the book. The monkeys in the book ar every interesting. The worst part of the book is when you hear about his little sisters leg. The best part of the book was when he used the money that he got from the monkeys to use for his sisters leg oper- tion. he really wanted a pony and a .22 gun. Instead he used it for his little sister. The story elements are conflict and setting. The conflict was character vs. characters, character vs. self and many more. I choose those two because they stand out the problems are more sever than some. The setting is in Oklahoma and it took place in the 1900's. If it where at a different time it would seem weird because we would not think of monkey getting lose at this year.
Rating: Summary: This is a classic! Review: I must have been about ten years old when I withdrew this book from the local library in my hometown New Zealand. Despite living half a world away from where the story was set, "Where the red Fern Grows" rates one of the top five books I have ever read. It is the wonderful story about a boy and the special bond he has with the two hunting dogs he worked so hard to buy. It is easy to read yet gives you an excellent feel for the way of life when things were simple and lifes pleasures came from the land and the hard working people who lived on it. While the term "heartwarming" seems such a cliche' it best describes this wonderful tale - it WILL warm your heart. Twentyfive years after first reading this book I have just ordered it for a very special man in my life. We recently spent a week together in the mountains where he grew up hunting raccoons with his Grandfather and the coonhounds his Dad bred. I just know he's going to LOVE this book!
Rating: Summary: great book, but the movie takes away some things Review: I first read this book in 5th grade and I loved it. However, a few years ago a movie came out, which saddened me, it left out and changed a lot of the parts that made me love the book. So yes, the book is great. It has adventure, love, sadness, strength, courage, and a remarkable tale of a boy's journey to learn the value of family. But you won't get everything out of the movie. So I encourage you to read the book, you won't be disappointed.
