Summary: THEE Book Martyn Pig
Review: We read Martyn Pig in our 7th grade class in 2003 and I would suggest any 7th grade or up student to read this book. I think is is very well written and the English style puts a nice touch to it. The mention a couple england words that you could find out by reading more. You never know when something is going to happen. It just pops up and surprises you. It is well worth reading the whole book!

Summary: About Martyn Pig
Review: I liked the book Martyn Pig. In the book I liked how the chapters were from the days of the week so it was really easy to follow along in the book. They didn't skip from one day to another. I also liked how the author explained everything Martyn did like play Scrabble with Alex. I liked the ending of the book because I never thought it would end that way. Things that I didn't like about the book are that there are parts that got boring and I got lost, such as when Martyn went on the bus to the beach. I really liked this book. It was a really good book.

Summary: Martyn Pig -a Masterpiece
Review: Martyn Pig to the Rescue! I was looking for a book to read my students during their weekly library time. I didn't want to bore them with a story about things that could never happen. I saw Martyn Pig, picked it up, and couldn't put it down. I read it to my students and they loved it. They kept asking me to keep reading even after the school bell had rung. It kept my interest and definitely my students'.

Summary: awesome
Review: A book full of suspense--mixed with some humor--Martyn Pig is cleverly written and definitely one of the best books I have ever read. There are several unexpectent twists and turns throughout the book, keeping the reader hooked until the very end. (I read it in almost one sitting.) Brooks uses descriptive language constantly throughout the book, which brings the book to life and enables the reader to clearly envision everything and feel as if the story is actually happening. I highly recommend Martyn Pig and give it five stars.

Summary: Martyn Pig
Review: this book captures the reader in an instant, i went in to the book optimistic. but when i read the first sentence i was astonished by Kevin's style of writing. i had never seen this before in murder mysteries, like Robert Cormier's books. i like the way that he brings Martyn's best friend into the story, and then really twists the end of the story. all in all this really shed a new light on murder mysteries for me.

Summary: Martyn Pig
Review: I found this book to be well-written and interesting, but ultimately the plot was disappointing and certain aspects of the book let it down. The main character is Martyn Pig, obviously enough, whose problems start after the accidental death of his father. The plot promises a startling twist at the end, and I suppose it lives up to it. However, the way this twist is handled makes the reader feel cheated and the whole book seem slightly pointless. (And I'm not talking about the obvious twist. Read the last page more carefully if you don't get it) I felt that this revelation could have been built up to more carefully, with perhaps more of a suggestion of what was to come.

Martyn himself was an well-rounded character, but I personally found Alex, the other main character, a bit flat and stereotyped. There was a lot of space devoted to describing Martyn's thoughts, which was mostly a good thing, but in the scene at the beach this made the plot drag a bit. Overall, this isn't a book I would recommend exactly, but it was far better than I expected it to be and you find yourself thinking about it for quite a while afterwards.

Summary: A very cool, unsentimental story of outrageous things
Review: Martyn Pig is a shunned and a loner, with a drunk for a father and no mother. He also loves murder mysteries. This is what got him into trouble. When his father gets drunk, he gets jokey and friendly first, then depressed, then violent. Martyn is trying to watch his favourite detective series while his father makes jokes at the top of his voice. Suddely, Martyn loses his temper and shouts at him to shut up. At that moment, his father goes directly from friendliness to violence. Martyn narrowly avoids a broken jaw, then in self-defense pushes him away. His father's skull breaks on the mantelpiece and he is dead.
This book kept me on my toes for the entire time. You'd think that everything was going according to plan, when something totally unexpected pops up and he needs a complete change of plan. Alex, a girl, his best friend and an intelligent aspiring actress, daughter of a former actress, helps him throughout the book. But even she has secrets...Dean, her boyfriend, is a completely pathetic character. He acts all tough, but on the inside he's nothing but a doughboy. All in all, this was a totally amazing book. I couldn't stop reading this...

Summary: A book worth reading through lunch
Review: I love this book! Being a thirteen year old, attending middle school, one of my main priorities is fitting in. And I know that walking around with your nose in a book is not considered cool. But with this book, I ddn't care what people thought, I couldn't put it down!!! Not only was this book suspenseful, thought provoking and humorous, I could relate to it. I could relate to how Martyn thought, his way of organizing information in his head was just so right on target of how my age group thinks, I had to keep checking the back flap to make sure that this wasn't written by a kid.
Definitely an amazing book; I already have 5 friends waiting to read it ( not to mention my parents)!!!!! :]

Summary: Warning -- Typos galore!
Review: Nothing against the author or the story in general, but this book could not possibly have had an editor, or even used spell check. For example, page 15 begins in the middle of a sentence, the beginning of which is no where to be found. The word needed (on the same page) is divided between lines as "n
eeded".

Books for children or young adults should be carefully edited. Scholastic Press personnel should be ashamed of themselves.

(Purchased for a public library, this book is being removed from the shelves until such time as it is edited and re-printed.)
