Summary: Leaving Fishers
Review: The book 'Leaving Fishers' by Margaret Peterson Haddix is an okay book by my standards. It had a good plot and fully-developed characters but somehow it didn't keep my attention for very long like some of her other books. My favorite of hers is 'Running Out of Time'. Overall, 'Leaving Fishers' was a good book. I would recommend it to people who like sort of mystery books because it is very ominous and spooky.

Summary: An enthralling story of Religion and being wanted.
Review: This book is heart touching as well as humorous. Dorry a new girl from a small town enters the real world of lies distrust. Dorry willing to do just about anything for poeple to like her, joins a religios group called the Fishers of Men. She's happy in the new big life she has, full of Parties and Friends. But the cult starts demanding and asking to much of her and her time. The Fishers of Men start pulling her away from her family, old friends, and job. Dorry has to make a desicion whether to continue the life with the Fishers or to go back to her old ways. This book relates to the real world all of us are facing now. Full of challenges and sacrifices. If you'd take my advice I'd advice you to read this book.

Summary: Realistic and Engaging!
Review: This is a great story. It's extremely true-to-life, particularly since cults are becoming more rampant nowadays. The dividing line between a zealous Christian and a fanatic is always unclear and the writer does a good job in portraying this conflict, particularly with respect to the minds of the members of the cult. The protaganist's mental confusion and suffering are realistically portrayed, so much so that the frustration and fear is "passed" to the reader, at least to me! This story is to me an addictive psychological thriller which not only entertains, but also teaches us something about extremes in religion and in life.

Summary: Just another cult story?
Review: This is NOT an anti-religious or anti-Christian book, if fact, the author is a church youth group leader. This book shows how a church gone wrong perverts the Christian message of grace and makes believing a terrible burden. I particularly recommend this book to Christians as a warning of what a church must not become - good churches do go bad sometimes. From what I have learned about cults, both from reading and from people involved with them, this is a chillingly accurate view of a pretty typical cult. I highly recommend this book for adults and teenagers. It's a good read - very hard to put down.

Readers should be aware that the name "Cult Awareness Network" as mentioned in this book no longer refers to a watchdog organization warning people about cults - the name has been bought by an advocate of a religion usually considered a cult and is now dedicated to whitewashing these dangerous groups.

Summary: Leaving Fishers
Review: This novel called 'Leaving Fisher' is a very good book because it talks about realistic moments, in other words, about life. What I mean by this is that its based on stuff that would happen to any normal person. Dorry is a typical girl who goes to high school who joins a religious group that's called 'Fishers'. Every knew member who joins that group has to have a discipler, which is a person who tells the new ones what to do. Dorry's discipler was a girl named Angela. She's real nice and sweet. She takes Dorry to Fisher parties and teaches her a lot of stuff about the Bible, God, Fishers, etc. Everything goes ok until she gets up level two. That's when things start to get out of hand. Like for example, Angela starts being maean and forces Dorry to do things she doesnt want to do, like on Thansgiving Angela told Dorry not to eat at all on that day! Also she had to give all her money savings to Fishers! There's a lot of bad things that happen because of this. So finally Dorry decides a good decision and she is not alone because there's a boy named Zachary who is int he same situation as her. Together they stop something bad.

Summary: Chilling, Thrilling, fasinating, Awsome!!
Review: This was apsolutley the best book i ever read...heres a preview.. "Then he called Dorry's name. Blood pounded in her ears. Brad and Angela stepped up behind her. Angela put her hand on Dorry's back, gently guiding her forward. Dorry wanted to protest, to say no, but how could she? Brad and Angela would think she didn't trust them. She stumbled toward the stairs. Her legs trembled as she climbed. Brad and Angela were on either side of her, each holding an arm to steady her. Then they let go, and Dorry realized she was at the top. Brad and Angela backed away. She couldn't see them behind her. I hate hieghts she wanted to say, I don't have to do this do I? But everyone else had been totally serious. Angela's clear voice asked behind her, "Do you trust us?" "Yes." Dorry mumbled. "Are you willing to stake your life to prove it? "yes," she wimpered again.

Summary: Amazing
Review: When I went away to college I ran into a cult. Of course I didn't really think it was a cult at the time but after reading this book my suspicions were confirmed. This book should be read by every teenager! The subtlty of cults is amazing. This book points out through a story how some cults work and how people can recognize them. This book produced such a feeling of anger in me that hadn't fully existed in me about the cult I met. I am so glad that this book is out here to help people learn more about cults!
