Summary: One of my favorites.
Review: I really loved this book. When I was staying with my Aunt, Uncle, and three cousins in Central Point Oregon, my aunt gave me her copy of this book. I started the book that day and finished it the same day I think, or at least the day after that. I was amazed at some of the discriptions, some were so close to what I had thought, imagined or experienced it was almost spooky. I really thought Ivy would be great to have as a friend. The games they played were the best kind. After I read it I wished there was an Ivy around that I could play with. The end is sad but really wonderful. I strongly reccamend this book to alomost all girls and women. Zilpha Keatly Snyder's other books are good but don't come close to this one. It's wonderful.

Summary: The Changeling was WONDERFUL!
Review: I think The Changeling was a very imaginative book, with many obstacles to make you want to keep reading. I wish this book had never ended and that I could still be reading it for the first time now. I wish I could have a friend like Ivy, who is never scared and has a different way of crying!

Summary: Thank you
Review: I was so touched to read the other 19 reviews. I, too, read this book when I was 10 or 11 years old. I so related to the contents of this book that I have thought about it on and off over the past 20 years. Remembering Martha's real friendship with Ivy and ability to be herself and blossom has given me strength over the past 20 years. This is a beautiful book, especially for a child who feels different from her family and others around her.

Summary: I've recommended this book to all real and imaginary friends
Review: I'm stunned and delighted to find so many others have read and loved this book too. Important for any kid who feels like an alien, but is proud of it. Essential for any person who refuses to buy into the acceptable adult notions of happiness. I recently visited northern California (where this story took place) - the rolling hills, steep ravines and crazy trees gave me the best deja vu of reading this book for the first time. Easy to imagine Ivy and Martha hiding behind trees and rocks.

Definitely one of the books that I regard as a life saver, up there with Courage to Heal, Still -life with Woodpecker and Demian.

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!
Review: I've been a huge fan of Zilpha Keatley Snyder's work since I was about 10 years old. My favorite one, however, is still The Changeling. It brought magic and wonder into my childhood, and I must have read it over 100 times! Now I am searching for this book for my daughter, and I was disappointed to find out that it is no longer being published. Anyway, I highly recommend this book to young readers. It's such a beautiful tale of friendship, and so marvelously written. I am at loss for words to describe the impact it had on me as a child, and has had on me ever since. It's truly unforgettable.

Also, to whoever wrote that last entry about contacting Ms. Snyder, and also mentioned her website, could you please get in touch w/ me? Or if anyone can tell me Ms. Snyder's website address and how to contact her please e-mail me. I would really appreciate it.

Summary: Haven't Forgotten...
Review: Just like a lot of other reviewers, this book made a huge impact on me when I was a kid. I've been trying to find out the author's name and I'm so happy I found her website! For any kid that feels a little different, this is a must read. While getting back in touch with my creative side, I've thought about this book over and over and would love to read it once again. A CLASSIC!

Summary: If you can find a copy, buy it!
Review: Simply amazing. The characters ring true and the power of the story is simply awesome. I finally obtained a copy in a used bookstore and am jealousy hoarding it for my daughter. I'm 34 and still read this book from time to time.

Summary: What can the publisher who owns this book be thinking?
Review: The popularity and impact of this book is truly astonishing. Just read the reviews! Most of these people haven't been near a copy of this book for ten, twenty years or more. And they've all checked in here, bypassing the dread words telling them that it's out of print, and hoping beyond hope that they'll be able to get their hands on a copy to pass on to their friends or younger family members.

Zilpha Keatley Snyder writes best when she is writing about outsiders--and about outsiders just on the cusp of adolescence, about to make that dangerous plunge away from childhood towards the complexities of becoming an adult.

That's what she does in this book. The result is magic.

Summary: Why is this book out of print?
Review: This book is absolutely one of my childhood favorites. I'll never forget Martha and Ivy's adventures. Who wouldn't love to have a best friend like Ivy, who transports Martha to a vivid, exciting fantasy world -- and who wouldn't love to have a best friend like Martha, the shy girl who comes out of her shell in order to protect social outcast Ivy from the judgmental outside world? A lovely book and one that deserves to come back into print -- and stay there.
