Rating: Summary: Straight-forward look at abuse. GREAT Review: I loved this book, as well as the other California Diaries, because the girls' lives (like mine, me being 11) are so real. Their problems seem MUCH more real to me than the girls' problems in the BSC. The only thing I don't like about the California Diaries are 2 of the girls sound sooooo depressed (Sunny & Maggie). Amalia & Dawn seem to be the more up-beat, less depressed half of the group. This book covers the subject of abuse, which I don't think should be left alone. My mom used to run a safe-house before we moved& then I was about 7 when i realized what an important issue it was. I'm glad this book covered that subject.
Rating: Summary: cool! Review: This was an EXCELLENT book! Amalia is my 2nd fave diary. (Maggie is my first!) Although I wouldn't be caught dead reading a baby-sitters club book, I LOVE California Diaries! They're much more realistic then the BSC. I loved Maggie, because of her sneaking off, and I loved all the songs she wrote in it! I can't wait for Maggie #2 to come out, and it would be AWESOME if Amalia had a 2nd diary too!
Rating: Summary: OKAY Review: This book was okay. It was pretty good but a liked dawn and sunny diary one a lot better.
Rating: Summary: April's comments on Amalia Review: In the California Diaries book that I read was Amalia's Diary. It was a very interesting book it was so good that I did not want to stop reading and I normally do not like to read but I enjoyed reading this one. To tell you a little about the it was about a girl named Amalia and her boyfriend James. They were going through some tough things like fighting, and arguing a lot mostly wondering even if there boyfriend/girlfriend. James,he is sixteen and Amalia she is only thirteen that is a big age difference. Amalia discovers that she likes hanging out with her sister a lot more when she got involved with a volunteer activity it was a Women's Homeless Home. It is as if you were there witnessing the wholr thing,Amalia's little doodles she draws throughout the book helps a lot more. If you want to find out more about the book you will have to read it for yourself. I guarantee that you will like it. I give it five stars.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book for Teens! Review: In Amalia Diary 1, it deals with a young girl about age 13 and she is going through a difficult "love life" She begins going out with a boy who is 16 years old, which is a major age difference, throughout the book complications begin to appear, jealousy, fights, etc. It all turns out well but you'll have to read it to see how good it is! I can never put down California Diary books because they are so interesting, its like I'm in that persons life. Especially in Amalia's books she draws doodles on some of the pages on what is going on in her life, so your anxious to see what the next drawing looks like. Ann M. Martin is an excellent author of this series and I recommend it to everyone! I'm 13 myself and she's got a great idea of what goes on in our minds!
Rating: Summary: Eh..... Review: Since you have probably read about 20 plot summarys, im going to get straight to the point. This series is alot, if not completely, different from the Baby-Sitters Club series. Im not saying this is a bad thing, but im not saying it's a good thing. Ann M.'s writing style is way diffrent, and so are the charectors. They have bigger and a little more important problems from those of Kristy, Claudia, Mallory, Stacey, Jessise, etc. Finishing this book only minutes ago, I have to say it was quite chessy at times. I felt a little embaressed for the author who was obviously trying to make the charector sound "cool". I thought Amalia's drawings were a little, well, stupid, and the dialouge kind of corny. I thought it was rather boring sometimes, and struggled to finish it. I have read three others in this series, and thats enough for now. MAYBE I will read another one in time, but not for awhile....
Rating: Summary: AMALIA VARGAS another reason whythe CD are theBESTbooksEVER Review: I VE JUST READ CD#4. IT IS WONDERFUL.probably one of the best books in the seires.i read sunny &dawn,s diaries first.then ducky &maggie. i never thought that amalias diaries were worth reading. But then i decided to give it a try. iread cd#14 first.and to my surprise i liked it a lot.soi decided to buy another one. this was #4.it was a great success too, because i loved amalias style in writing in her journal, like the drawings.[i LOVE to draw, too].i was glad she got rid of james .i liked it when she decides to face him.ilike her strong personality.i also loved linda and her son mikey. Ann Martin did a wonderful job on that book.what i like most about CALIFORNIA DIARIESis that every one has a different story, problem, style, feelings, circumstances, ideas&personality. ann martin enables the reader to go deep into all this stuff.in amalia diary one we get to know alot about her. she is strong, caring, sarcastic, and awonerful daughter, sister&friend. but ann ,here,in amalias diaries is highligting very serious problemS LIKE BEING of another color[in cd#14and the racists]but in cd#4 she highlights the problem of selfishness which is naturally leading to the idea of OWNING PEOPLE. BETWEEN AMALIA AND JAMES AND its complications of course.selfishness is the problem.every one wants what ishis mind ,like james and LINDAS HUSBAND. BUT IN THE END SELFISHNESS NEVER WINS. CD#4 IS A WONDERFUL BOOK. I RECOMMEND IT TO ALL TEENS.WELL DONE,ANN. AND KEEP THE GOOD WORK.
Rating: Summary: Girl from Arkansas Review: I thought this was a great book! it was the first one i read and now i just have to get all 15!
Rating: Summary: It was interesting Review: To my point of view I think that Amalia was a good book. It's about a girl who likes a boy for who she thinks he is but it turns out that she does like him for what he is. I think Amalia needs to say with her own age because you never know what older people can do. Amalia learned important things like she can have fun helping others out when the really need help, she find that out from going with her sister. I wouldn't mind reading another book like this it was interesting.
Rating: Summary: California Diaries #4 Scores a Three! Review: The reason I rated this book a three, was because it was a good book. It explains some of the things that happen in real life. The book was also sad. I felt bad for what Amalia had to go through. I thought it was boring because it didn't have a lot of suspense. It also had to do with relationships gone bad. The women at the GEAE had been beaten, and Amalia had been in a bad relationship herself. I would recomend this book to 6th, 7th and 8th graders who like to read about romance. Most of the book is about Amalia's relationship with James. Also, a lot of the things Amalia goes through, people have to go through all the time.
