Rating: Summary: COMPETITION KILLS COOPERATION! Review: I really loved this book. Scottie-Anne, her parents and friends are delightful characters who are all drawn in to the world of beauty pageants because Scottie-Anne's prima donna of a sister has been a veteran of pageants since infancy. Scottie-Anne is unwittingly entered into a school pageant and much to her dismay, her sister supervises and advises the middle-school set. I like the way Scottie-Anne's parents took an interest in her, even though she was not in pageants and I like the way Scottie-Anne refused to wear a ghastly dress her sister picked out for her. The only thing I did not understand was why the girl's mother would trust Prima Donna's judgment in picking something. Prima Donna Dane should have known that Scottie-Anne was not trying to usurp her place in the beauty industry. I am glad Scottie-Anne got her own dress, her own interest and her own identity. This book was a good one.
Rating: Summary: If you are into beauty pageants, this book is for you!! Review: I'm a 10 year old, and I thought this was a very good story. The characters were all interesting, even Lilly and Dane, although they were sometimes shallow. The story moved fast and was over before I knew it. I liked this book a lot, because I really like beauty pageants. It was great!!!
Rating: Summary: You cannot not like this !! Review: I, personally, loved this book. This book showed everything about beauty pageants, from dresses to costs. You see what really goes on in the person's mind. I thought this was an excellent book and recommend it for any age readers.

Rating: Summary: Although the messages in your books are often admirable . . Review: My niece enjoyed a visit by Caroline Cooney to her middle school in Greenwood, Indiana--at least until a somewhat derogatory statement was made about cheerleaders. From what I understand from some of the students, the author implied that this particular group of athletes (Yes, they ARE athletes!) were snobby and superficial. Although I myself was more of a "bookish" sort of kid, I do know that my niece and the entire squad work extremely hard to acquire and perfect their gymnastic and dance skills. I found it very disturbing that an adult would perpetuate the anomisity that certainly does exist within "cliques." But it is the height of arrogance to make broad assumptions against ANY group whether they be computer experts, football players, band members, or even cheerleaders. The message that you do not have to be gorgeous or popular in order to be a good person is exactly the message my family promotes; however, we also do not dissuade the children in our family from their interests and talents. I hope that in future talks with children when visiting schools that any derogatory statements about any group of kids is edited from your final speech. To not do so is irresponsible and immature. I do not want the children in my family to be victims of violence such as those from Columbine High School. The statement during the visit to my niece's school creates such hostility. To assume the values of our children are less than admirable simply due to their talents is simply wrong. Popular children should not be assumed to be superficial and non-caring individuals. Too bad that this wasn't the message the students in Greenwood received.
Rating: Summary: A pretty good book Review: Scottie-Anne hates beauty pagents. Her sister's whole life is beauty pagents. One day Scottie-Anne is forced into a beauty pagent at her school. She is surprised that she wants to win. The beauty pagent ends up causing some problems between friends. This book showed that sometimes beauty means more than brains in today's society. I think this book showed both views of beauty pagents well. Some people think beauty pagents are great and some think they are shallow. If you are not into beauty pagents this book might not interest you. I liked it even though I don't like beauty pagents. This book was pretty exciting but the ending was a little disapponting. I would recommend this book to most girls.
Rating: Summary: TWENTY PAGEANTS LATER Review: THIS BOOK IS ABOUT 2 SISTERS WHO ALWAYS TRAVEL 24/7 WITH THEIR MOM AND DAD BECAUSE ONE OF THERE DAUGHTERS(DANE) IS A BEAUTY PAGEANT CONTESTANT. THIS BOOK IS VERY INTERESTING, ESPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE READING ABOUT BEAUTY PAGEANTS. IT ALSO GIVES TIPS ON HOW TO BE READY FOR BEAUTY PAGEANTS. THIS BOOK DOESN'T RELATE TO ME IN ANY WAY. MY OPINION ON THIS BOOK IS THAT I REALLY LIKED IT. I LIKED HOW DANE WAS NEVER AFRAID TO DO ANYTHING. THERE REALLY WASN'T ANYTHING THAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT IT. I WOULD PROBABLY RECCOMEND THIS BOOK TO PEOPLE FROM 5th GRADE AND ON.
Rating: Summary: Quick, Semi-Entertaining Read Review: This book is basically about a girl who feels overshadowed by her sister, and eventually finds her own talents. It gives a half positive, half negative look on beauty pageants. I thought it was a very realistic book, though. "Twenty Pageants Later" was OK, but it is more of a short read. I doubt this will ever be a classic piece of literature. (I would have given it three and a half stars, but that wasn't possible)
Rating: Summary: You cannot not like this !! Review: This book was the fat TRUTH. The BIG FAT TRUTH of what pageants really are. No one cares about the "smarts", it's just all beauty. Scottie Anne is a bright young girl. She's smart, she has friends...but her sister, Dane, is a beauty pageant wonder worker. She's won practically everything, and if not that, a runner up. Scottie Anne is always getting dragged around to her sister's pageants, and Scottie Anne knows tons about them. But she hesitates to enter when her school has the Marsh Mid Princess Pageant to raise money for the school. And her sister is helping out. This is the one time for Scottie Anne to shine, but will she enter? Learn the real truth about pageants. They don't make you smart, but only beautiful, or not? Find out in this great book by Caroline B. Cooney.
