Rating: Summary: Of Mice and Men Review: The book Of Mice and Men is an original and astonishing novel. Steinbeck does a great job of recreating the 1930's scence. Encorporating work tickets and 1930's slang into the book was some good ways Steinbeck did that. I really liked the characters that Steinbeck write about and developed. They arent the average characters that you read about in every other novel out there, they are unique. Lennie is probably the most unique. In my opinion, Of Mice and Men is a good book to read for young adults. It taught me some things I should look out for when it comes to reading future books. This book looks at a lot of social issues, some that we even deal with today. It definatly touches on the social issue of descrimination. --Marita
Rating: Summary: The Good and Bad of Of Mice And Men...Part 1 Review: I thought that Of Mice and Men was a great book to read. John Steinbeck did a wonderful job of bringing in a sense of reality to the book. Steinbeck also does a nice job creating a sort of vision of what life was like as a migrant worker in 1930's California. He shows you what kind of life style workers had, like at the beginning of the book when he writes about what kind of clothes George and Lennie are wearing, and what they are both carrying. I think that Steinbeck created all of the characters with real thought, and "concentration." He writes them all in with different personalities, and characters, and makes them all seem like real people that existed in that time "erra." When I was reading the book, I could actually visualize each character talking, and each character acting a certain way, which, to me, is a good thing to be able to do when your reading a book. Rating: Summary: My review, not yours! MINE! mwahahaha!!!! Review: I am completly fifty-fifty, really, about whether this book was a GOOD book. As an assigned book I would have to say it fitted its purpose appropriately: it was assigned. I must say, however, that the recreation of the 1930's was superb! The dialog was completly faithful to it's time and well placed in the story. Every time you read a dialog you knew it was MEANT to be there, not just thrown in for fun. The book "Of Mice and Men," was a sad, but meaningul story with many good lessons to teach. I would recommend this book to young adult readers only for the vivid discriptions, dialog and characters would be a little much for a younger mind to aprehend. WOTS OV WOV, Andy J. T.
Rating: Summary: Mallorys Review of : Of Mice And Men Review: I thought Of Mice and Men was a book that has to be read by every eighth grader in the country. He describes the life of a migrant in the 1930's so well i could paint a picture of what he was describing. How he should that Lenny and George had many hardships trying to get to the farm. He also described the way they treated them so because of their skin or because of their disability. He showed the characters so well. I can picture lenny a big tall teddybear who looks all tought but could not hurt a soul. And there was george who was a small guy full of information and cared for lennie more than anyone else ever did. This book should be read by all student to show the discrimination towards the challenged, the colored, and the women in the world. It shows that it doesnt matter smart you are you will still be turned away from something because of their color. This speaks out about social issues about, racial, sexual, and mental discrimination. In the end I would say this book is a have to read. Love, Mallory
Rating: Summary: Ms. Farvour's B4/5 Language Arts Class Review: I gave this novel 3 stars, simply because it was a good novel, however it wasn't the best novel in the universe. Steinbeck developed the characters very well. The way he described each character gave you the image in your mind of how each character looked and acted. This novel is good to read because it gives you a good outlook on what it was like in the 1930's, such as racism and manpower. Everything that needed to be done was done by manpower instead of technology. Another good thing about the book was the different lingo. Though it is hard to understand, once you get the definition and/or meaning of everything, you get to see a different side of telling a story. Overall, this novel was good if your willing to read different lingo Written by, Shermane
Rating: Summary: Review of Of Mice and Men....Philip is cool and stuff... Review: Of mice and Men,while a very sad story, wasn't very well written and wasn't that appealing. All the characters were too stereotypical. Take Curley for example. Just because he is short doesn't mean he goes around with his fist head high trying to kill people. Candy is some old timer that loses his hand and has big hopes, another stereo type...And then you have Lennie...Dear god...if an orangatang can learn after his mistakes so can he. Even in the end Lennie was still oblivious to everything. I do not believe Steinbeck wrote this story very well. I mean just because alot of this takes place doesn't mean they are all really angry eachother. Reading this book was like watching Survivior, which also is bad. I mean, isn't it obvious that Lennie had mental retardation, but yet, everyone at the farm has to be to gullible to believe that. But overall I do think kids should read this book because it talks about how racism affects the past and how it affects today. Even though I got bored out of my mind of this book, it is still something to study. With Underlyinly sincerity, Philip Hort...something.
Rating: Summary: Of mice and men Review: I liked it, but it was kind of sad in a good way though because no matter what George knew that Lennie was going to die so he killed him in a less painfull way. Steinbeck created really good characters because they were so believable that it could of most likely happend in real life, but for younger kids they probably won't get it because it's not in their level of reading, but it is good for young adults because they know it could happen in real life. The social issue that this relates to is definetly racism because everyone treats Lennie bad just because he is different.
Rating: Summary: Of Mice and Men, a book review by me Review: I thought Of Mice and Men was a good book so thats why i gave it a 4 out of 5 stars. The people in the book were relastic and they seemed like they would be the type of people that lived back in the 1930's. Also how they talked seemed like that would be how they talked back then. In this book there was racisim so that is the social issue in this book..and yea..i don't really have anything else to say but it was a pretty good book.
Rating: Summary: Fayes awesome review of mice and men Review: I gave the book 3 stars because I thought the book was a tad bit too short. Besides that, I thought the book was a really good portrail of what life might have been like in the 1930s on a farm. It also had very good dialect, and gave a very good visual.I could almost picture what was going on in my head. I thought that Steinbeck gave a people a very good idea of what life might have been like for the migrant workers on the farm. He showed how cruel people can be sometimes, when they are put in situations that they dont necessarly like. I definetly thought that the characters Stienbeck created were believeable. I think that a lot of them were very bitter, but I dont really blame them because living on a farm where no one really gets all that much respect, most people would be bitter. In my opinion, this book is a good book to teach to young adults. Once you get past all the swearing and stereotypes, its really a good lesson to learn. It shows a lot of social issues, in today's society, like racism, sexism, stereotypes, poverty, and just discrimination all over. I think the book can teach what discrimination can do to a city or just a farm. luv...Faye
