Rating: Summary: *A magical world I want to escape to!* Review: This is my Fav Francesca Lia Block book and the first one that read (I am a big fan!!!) This is the story of Clare a teenage Fairy who lives in her own magical world of glitter and fairy dust and Violet a Goth Girl who lives in a world of dark film and music. It is the story of their friendship. As usual Lia Block has created an urban Fairytale that makes you smile and cry! It took me back to my teenage years and made me wish I was 17 again! Beautiful!!!!
Rating: Summary: unique & poetic Review: This was one of the last Block books I read because I thought it had a stupid cover, however once I started reading it, Violet & Claire drew me in with the screenplay format (not the whole book) and didn't Violet say she liked Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast? Yes, I thought Claire was a cool character--she has wings!!--and it was a fun book to read, with Block's poetic writing. It did have some sex and drugs in it, which for me is a bummer about reading Block's books, and it's won't go down in history as a great book, but it could go in your bookshelf as one.
Rating: Summary: Violet and Claire Review: well...i bought this book the day before yesterday, and i finished it last night. i had a choice between "Violet and Claire" and "Echo," and i can't help wondering whether i made the right choice...i found it to be pretty good, but...i don't know, lacking something. it didn't draw me in the way "I Was A Teenage Fairy" did. i have read that book about 10 times and i still love it, as i love all FLB's books. However...Violet & Claire did not hold that power over me. i don't know, maybe if i read it again i'll understand it better, because there are parts that leave you wondering what actually happened. i won't give anything away though. All in all, it's still a good book, i liked Violet better than Claire though. i still recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Two Best Friends Review: A Review by Kristin Violet and Claire are two totally different kinds of people. Violet is very dark and gothic. Claire is very light, and believes in faeries. Violet dreams of someday making her own movie, and Claire enjoys writing and reading poetry. The one thing that they do have in common is the fact that neither of them have friends, and they are all considered to be strange. The one thing that ties them together as friends is the fact that Violet needs to get an actress to act in the movie that she is making. The rest of the book goes from there. Claire and Violet go on many adventures to find actors and actresses, slowly learning what life on there own is really like, and that no matter what, your friends will always be there. One thing that I liked about this book was the way that the writer switched from character. The switching want confusing at all. One section from Violet's point of view, one from Claire's point of view, and the last from the writer's. Another thing that I liked was the realism. The writer really made this book come to life. It is easy to imagine the different scenes, like when the girls run away. Also, there are good descriptions, which make the book seem more exciting. One last thing that I liked was the differences between the characters. This showed that just because one person looks one way, and another looks different form you, that you can still find a best friend in them, and it doesn't really matter how they look. All in all, I felt that this was a great book. It had great descriptions, which made for easier reading. It also had a fast pace, which made you want to keep reading it. This would be a great book for 7th to 10th grade readers.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful... Review: Ive read a few of FLB's books, and this one was *wonderful*! She has the most beautiful, poetic writting i have ever read. Its like reading one big poem of a story. It actually made me cry! So did "The Rose & the Beast", just because of it's beautiful writting. But in Violet & Claire I felt like i understood the characters. It's written wonderfully, and tells a wonderful story. I feel like Claire, a little broken faerie. She addresses every feeling so wonderfully, so truly. It really helped me open my mind and think about things I hadn't discovered about myself. Definately put me in the writting mood! This book is wonderful, it gives you a content feeling when you're done. I really suggest buying it!
Rating: Summary: Poetic.... Review: "Violet And Claire" is a wonderful book. It's magical, poetic, and a very creative page turner. At the very first page, you are totally engrossed, and under Francesca Lia Block's well known book spell. It's everything you would ever want...Romance, drama, friendship, action, comedy, everything! It's a total teen classic, though of course all of Francesca Lia Block's book are absolutely wonderfull. A deffinant must read. You'll love it.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful And Poetic Review: Violet And Claire is a wonderfull book, full of poetry and beauty, but it isn't what I thought it would be. Although I was revitied, it isn't the best teen book I have ever read.
