Rating: Summary: How Great? Review: Violet and Claire is one of the best books I've ever read. These two young women are so different; they are like a princess and a goth. Violet is really into "being in the scene", and Claire is into faeries- pronounced "fairies", yes I spelled it correctly, read the book and find out what faeries are all about. If you have ever had a best friend that you feel like you are drifting away from them, this book is for YOU!
Rating: Summary: A truly awesome book! Review: I read a magazine review of this book, and I knew then that I had to get it. Everything that Violet & Claire deal with is so real like w/ school, friends, guys, everything, except for Hollywood. But that part adds something to the book. I highly advise any teenage girl to pick up a copy of this! You'll luv it!
Rating: Summary: A Quick but Meaningful Read Review: This book may be in the children's section, but it is in no way a children's story. It follows two girls in their journey through the twisted back streets of life searching for themselves and each other. It is poetic, poigniant and beautifully written. You'll want to read it again and again. I recommend it for any teenager of adult that has ever had a best friend...well just anyone would love this book.
Rating: Summary: Violet & Claire Review: I recently read in a magazine about this book and had to get it. What's really bizarre is that is resembles a lot of teenagers in society right now, but without all of the Hollywood glamour. You get to see this amazing bond between two totally different girls, yet who are extremely alike. You get to see life how it is through their eyes. I highly recommend end this book to other readers if they're interested on learning more about life.
Rating: Summary: Mystical and Delightful Review: Ms. Block takes you down a road of friendship between two very different girls. It is narrated by both of them. I have read most of Ms. Block's work and this book definately shows her talent. Like in most her books and stories this is set in the wonderful, but grim city of Los Angeles. This book has you fall in love with these two unique best friends. If you like modern fiction then you will greatly enjoy this novel.
Rating: Summary: Not an enjoyable experience Review: I have been a rabid fan of Ms. Block since Weetzie Bat, and I have gobbled up all of her books. My first bad taste came with I Was A Teenage Fairy, which I won't even begin to discuss. Now, with Violet and Claire, I am growing anxious about the change in Ms. Block's work. Her characters are spoiled and unlikable. Her writing has not grown better over time, rather it has gotten old and stale. She needs to try new and more unusual (and more charming) subjects and styles. If her next book continues on this less-than-exciting path, I will just have to be content with Weetzie Bat and accept that the magic is fading.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Friendship Review: The novel Violet and Claire, written by Francesca Lia Block was a very interesting book. It was filled with the emotions of two friend destined to be friends no matter what. One in black destined to be a film director. The other in all white conceived from an ancient civilization of fairies. About how a friendship can be so strong that it can last through all the pain and agony that life can bring.
Rating: Summary: girls, Girls, GIRLS Review: This is the only book I've read by Mrs. Block, but as a 15 year-old I have to say so far I love her work. In Violet and Claire she gave vivid descriptions about the two only phases that most teenage girls go through. I know alot of people who have Violet's attitude. The type that at a young age scarred their arms with razor blade, and now all they can think of is making movies or being in movies. Then there is the Claire Type who get beat up in school everyday because they have that innocent look that reassures you they won't try to hit you back. You have to read this book you, won't be able to put it down.
Rating: Summary: block has done it again. Review: Although not the very best of her work, this book was still incredible. Francesca Lia Block never ceases to amaze me with her writing talents. She manages to write such dreamy wonderful books but also is able to write about the problems real teens face in her books.Violet & Claire is like too books in one. From Violet we get the hollywood movie-girl.... she has a passion for the classics, and dreams of making her own movies. She seems to be the stronger of the two. Claire is in her own faerie & poetry world (which I muchly identify w/.) She dreams of faeries & loves glitter and sees things through rather innocent eyes. Both make quite a match setting for a page turning story. Thank you Miss Block for making my life better with your liquid words.
Rating: Summary: What is happening to Francesca? Review: Does she need to make mortgage payments? Why oh why did she publish this laziness? I didn't think I could be any more disappointed after "I Was a Teenage Fairy" - wonderful concept, execution dead in the water - but at least her last book gave some evidence of craft and attention. This book reads as if it was cobbled together by underpaid interns from notes scribbled on cocktail napkins during publishers' Christmas parties. And it is all the more painful when I compare it to the lyricism, vision, and genius of "Weetzie Bat." Francesca, Francesca, hear me: you have it in you to be a truly great writer. Do not be seduced by how easily entertained your fans are. You must have enough money by now; please, give us the true portrait of America it is in you to write.
