Rating: Summary: Awsome!!! Review: This book was amazing. It's strange, usually I hate it when an author leaves out major info in their books, but this time, it was what John Marsden DIDN'T write that made this book so good. When I finished it I just sat their and thought "Wow."
Rating: Summary: Very disturbing.... Review: Yet very good. Big surprises at the end, so make sure you don't peak. A killer of a book. buy it. it is done in letter form, entirely. Very innovative.
Rating: Summary: Great book of letters, loved it Review: I think this was a really good book. I read another one of John Mardsen's books b4, "So much to tell U" I think. That book was a book of letters too. Book books were very good, esp this one. At first, it was quie confusing and hard to follow. But if u go on to read it, u'll find out what an amazing book it is. Two girls juz writing letters together, seems so simple yet so complicated. The author has put the characters forward as if it were true in actual life (whihc may even occur!). It was quite touching too. Read it. And don't be too bored by the beginning.
Rating: Summary: I found it amazing. Review: I somehow stumbled across this book, and I fell in love. I disagree with many of the other reviews posted here; I thought the ending was strong, although frustrating. It was so powerful...and I doubt that it would have been that powerful without it. You really must read this book. It is fantastic.
Rating: Summary: I dont know what to think... Review: I was a bit slow to start reading this book because I thought that the beginning wasnt happening although I now realize that you had to establish a bit of a friendship between Mandy and Tracey first. I thought the middle was great it had a huge lead up to the end and kept you in suspence as to what was to happen - you felt like you just wanted to turn to the end of the book and skip out half the middle but when I finally reached the end I was extremely disappointed because really there wasnt much of and end. It finished without answering all of the things that kept you in suspence - such as why was Tracey in the Garret? and Why did Mandy suddenly stop writing? and if she didnt stop writing, did they get their record? Did they eventually meet? and things like that and along those lines. I really think there should have been more of an ending, or at least an epilogue. I was quite disappointed - like I was left hanging at a loose end. Its not really like all the other John Marsden books I have read and thoroughly enjoyed such as The Tomorrow Series, Dear Miffy, Checkers etc. etc. etc. I love John Marsden but in this book I really think he let the readers down. I am only 13 and I was disappointed - I do wonder what some of the older readers opinions are!
Rating: Summary: READ THIS BOOK! I DID AND I LOVED IT. Review: THIS BOOK IS ABOUT TWO GIRLS WHO STARTS TO BE PEN-PALS. ONE OF THEM, TRACEY, WRITES A LOT ABOUT HER IDYLLYC LIFE WHILE THE OTHER GIRL, MANDY, WRITES MOST ABOUT HER VIOLENT BROTHER. WHEN THEY THOUGHT THEY NEW EACH OTHER A HORRIBLE LIE REVEALS....
Rating: Summary: Good book. The ending is... surprising. Review: If you couldn't figure out what happened at the end... in the words of another reviewer (hope she doesn't mind me quoting her): "read Mandy's last letter and the dream Tracy has twards the end!!!" I was pretty sure about what happened, but the dream makes it almost certain. Anyway, read this book. It's good, but not as good as Tomorrow, when the War Began. The Australian expressions might make it a bit strange for American readers, but not too confusing. Recommended for ages 13 up-- younger kids would probably be disturbed by it or not understand. The main characters are 16 year olds (15 at the beginning.) I am 15.
Rating: Summary: Well... Review: I love, love, loved the book but hate, hate, hated the ending! I can't understand why authors always have to take the easy way out and not let you know what the deal is!! Kind of like reading a book that get's really exciting and when a hole in the plot pops up that the author can't fix he makes it all a dream and the character wakes up at the end. Other than that, it was really good!
Rating: Summary: this book really spoke to me! Review: this book was amazing. i really understood the two girl's points of view. I loved how they connected with each other and really spoke their minds. i cried three times when i read this. first time was when tracey said where she was. second was when mandy stopped writing. third was when i found out WHY she stopped writing. i really felt for both girls when they talked about their problems. not that i have ones as....DEEP as tracey and mandy, but i knew what they were feeling. i could NOT put this down. i read it once, thought about it for a week, and read it again. i swear, this is probably the best book i've read yet!!
Rating: Summary: An intrigring, and catching book! Review: This book was so exiting that I couldn't put it down that I read it in two days! The words and details held my attention throughout the whole book. I couldn't put it down until I found out the mysteries behind the letters. I hope there is a sequel to this book that fills in the gaps between Mandy's and Tracey's letters.
