Rating: Summary: Is the world really like this? Review: In this book it talks about blak people and how they are treated. It was horrible how they did treat them. Caroline B. Coony did a really good job at saying that people are like this and we need to take the first step to stop unfairness in the world.
Rating: Summary: Burning Up is a great book! Review: I think that Burning Up definitely deserves 5 stars, though it was left a little open-ended. I'm hoping there's going to be a sequel to continue Macey and Austin's project. There are many things that could be put into a sequel, like what Macey does and if Austin comes back. This book was very good, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Rating: Summary: VERY good book Review: This book is very good and I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone. The ending is a little disappointing in some ways, so I hope there is a sequel. There are too many unanswered questions. Anybody who has read other Caroline B. Cooney books will love this book as well.
Rating: Summary: All Burned Out Review: As you start this book, it seems to be very promising. It begins with Macy Clare walking home to her grandparents' house, and her second home. Her grandparents are very friendly, happy people, and they enjoy a short while of just being in eachother's company. The trouble starts when Macey tells of a local history project she must complete. Her grandparents seem interested until they learn she wants to cover a barn fire in 1959. Suddenly, Papa and Nana seem very evasive. That night is the first bonfire, where we find that Macey is interested in a cute boy named Austin. She goes off to question residents about the fire, however, and leaves him back. Everyone she talks to seems to avoid her. The next morning the kids travel to the "inner city," home of their sister church, Good Shepherd. There they are supposed to repaint some Sunday school rooms for community service hours. Macey meets some girls from the ghetto, and quickly develops some kind of culture shock. She can't believe these people aren't as privileged as her. Doesn't everyone have a computer? At this point, the book quickly fades. The plot is turned from a narration of Macey's life to a preachy, anti-racist sermon. As Macey becomes more and more obsessed with the barn fire, the story gets more and more bogged down. There are simply too many sub-plots, and it's dragged on way too long. If you have a long attention span and a taste for mystery, I'd suggest this book. It offers a mystic sort of "whoodunnit" bit while keeping in the lines of racial protest. Macey's idea of poverty contrasts deeply with mine, however. If she thinks that place is bad, she should see Los Angeles. I think it's a bit overdone, but it offers a poignant look into the northeast and their racial problem.
Rating: Summary: Fast paced and thoughtful Review: Macy will not be detered from finding out about a fire set in 1959 in her small Conn. town. As she unravels the mystery, she learns more than she expected to learn about her family, discrimination, and her responsibilities as a human being. Macy grows tremendously throughout the novel, leaving behind her self centeredness and finally gaining empathy and understanding. This book is well worth your time!

Rating: Summary: Heavy Book Review: When I first saw this book, I expected something totally different. My favorite author, Caroline B. Cooney, is a great suspence writer. This book is mystery, and it tackles really deep issues like racism. A young girl must find her inner strength, and confront her entire town on a subject that many have been trying to forget. I give it five stars, because it has everything that I look for in a book. See if it is right for yoU!
Rating: Summary: If you haven't read any good books lately read this book. Review: My librarian told me about Caroline B. Cooney and she just got her newest book, Burning Up and she asked me to read it, and tell her how it was. Well I read it and it was so good, I couldn't put it down. My librarian and my Literature teacher ofton ask me to read a book and tell them if they were any good. Since I'm such an avid reader, I've read a lot of books and Burning Up is definately on my top five list of favorite books. You'll enjoy Macey's funny attitude when people threaten her. Austin and Macey would make a good couple for a series to this book. I hope you read this book soon.
Rating: Summary: BORING! IT NEVER ENDED!!!! Review: Ok... I love Caroline B. Cooney, but this book just seemed to be really bad. It is about a girl who obsesses over her parents and grandparents past. She obsesses (sp) so much she almost loses a guy who likes her even though shes an ...! I usually read these books in a day, but this one took me a lot longer because it was so boring. So my suggestion to you is to leave it on the shelf and pick up a different book! AnyBook!
Rating: Summary: Burinig my Imagination Review: This book was wonderful. It really got me thinking. One reason I loved this book is because it touches on racial issues in places you really wouldn't expect. One reason it was so great was because it shows racial issues from a white persons point of view instead of noemally an African - American's point of view. This was truly a greatg experience for me and I woulld recomend it to anyone who likes serious dramatic books.
