Summary: Awesome Book! Must Read!!
Review: Burning Up by Caroline B. Cooney is a very enjoyable book. I could not put it down. This book addressed many issues teenagers face today. Some issues that are talked about are first crushes, unbearable parents, true friendships, and even ethical issues. After reading the book, I realized how the past really does effect the present! What are parents went through when they were younger still has an effect on the world today. I also started to appreciate what I have and the opportunities I am given. The book explored the life of inner-city kids and what they have to go through.
Macey, the main character, is on a mission. For her history project she has to research something that happened in her town?s past. So Macey decides to investigate a fire that burned down a barn in her neighbor hood over forty years ago. While she is dealing with this matter, she runs into many challenges. Not only is being a teenager tough, but it seems as if no one will tell her what really happened. Was it an accident or was it a protest? If this isn?t hard enough, dealing with her first crush, Austin, and trying to do what feels right presents even more obstacles.
The main reason I liked this book was because I could relate to what Macey was feeling. I knew how she felt in different situations because I have been there. I think any teenager would love to read this book. I definitely rate this a five star book!!

Summary: Did it ever stop burning?
Review: A review by Danielle

Macey Clare and Austin (the main characters) were both in a church fire; after the fire that she was in Macey started to get an obsession with fires and her town. One day at school when Macey was on the internet she found out that there was a fire on Shell Road. Which was where she lived, Macey read about the fire in 1959. She couldn't believe that there was a fire that burned down around a man though no one had ever taken the time to tell her. This fire had to do with her road and being racist. Everyone believed that Macey was getting obsessed about the whole fire. Austin began to look it up too and both pushed their grandparents away all the while.

I really liked Macey as the main character in this book; only because her teenage problems seemed so real. The main plot in this book was very interesting and made me want to keep reading it; never put it down. Despite the fact that some of the sentences were short and kind of a child's book, it was very interesting. During this book the main view switches from Macey to Austin. It gets kind of confusing, though changing the view was a good way to show both Austin's and Macey's opinions. This story probably would have been better if it was longer, and if it said what happened in the future.

Burning Up was a very good book, however I thought that it was going to be a thriller and it wasn't. The author stays on the topic and he doesn't talk about other things. I would definitely recommend this book to others who are interested in Caroline Cooney's stories. It was actually a great book and was very moving in some parts.

Summary: Burning Up
Review: If you are looking for a book that keeps you reading all the way through this is the book for you.
Burning Up was a story about a teenage girl named Macey. Macey is your typical good girl. She also loves visiting her grandparents house. After being in a church fire she was wanting to learn about another fire that was in her grandparents town. When she was assigned to do a paper for school about something from history she thought this would be the perfect time to learn about this fire. Mean while Macey has a crush on boy, Austin who also will visit his grandparents house.
I really enjoyed reading this book because it kept me guessing. It could have been a little more of a thriller book but i still thought it was a book that god hard to put down. I hope that you also enjoy this book the way I did.

Summary: I fell in love with Austin
Review: Buring Up was a wonderful book. I couldn't put it down. The best way to discribe it is a romance, mystery, historical, and teen issue book all rolled into one. It only took me a few pages to get hooked and only one day to finnish it. The ending however makes you sad because you are half expecting Austin, who is the best character in the book, to come running back to be with Marcey. Austin's quick thinking and full passion for Marcey makes him adorable. I feel bad for him though because the only way he can get her attention away from her project is to get involved in her project.Marcey's determination and willingness to make a difference in the world of racism is encouraging to everone. This book is a great book for those 13- 16. Most girls can totally relate to Marcey because of her fear of letting Austin go. I think she was regreating spending all her time trying to fix the past. This book is an influence to everyone and I strongly recommend this book to all my friends. I can't wait to read the rest of Caroline B. Cooney's books.

Summary: Cooney writes another winner!
Review: I absolutely loved this book. I loved how it shows a connection between people who don't even know they are connected in any way, like a karass. This is a great book and I would recommend it to anyone! It is also interesting how throughout the questions and trivials, Cooney is still able to weave a little romance into this one-of-a-kind novel. If you haven't read this book, you should give it a try because it is very interesting and I believe people of all ages could enjoy it.

Summary: Yet Another Good YA Book by Cooney
Review: Living in her rural, middle-to-upper-class Anglo neighborhood in Connecticut, 15-year-old Macey Clare is oblivious to the bigotry that lays just below the surface in her town, until she uncovers a shocking secret that happened back in 1959 when a nearby barn burned down, intended to kill the black science teacher that lived in it. Everyone's close-lipped when she confronts her family and friends about it, but Macey's determined to find out what happened, especially after a black acquaintance from the city is suddenly shot dead.

"Burning Up" is a great contemporary novel for young adults, touching on a rather sore subject for some people: racism. The writing is exceptional and interesting, as are the two main characters: Macey and her 16-year-old boyfriend/neighbor, Austin. The ending is bittersweet, but all around, "Burning Up" is a book worth reading, especially if you're a Cooney fan.

Summary: Burning Up
Review: I would give this book a 4/5 stars because the beginning starts off kind of slow, but as soon as you get a little farther in the book it's action, action, action. The end is a very little bit slow, and it's also sad. It's also a bit romantic
Macey, a teenage girl, who lives in Connecticut, in the perfect little town is the main character of this story. She's juggling her home life with her constantly busy parents and her school life with a report she wants to do about a barn fire that no one wants to say anything about. Not to mention Austin her new love. Macey is about to find out that her perfect little town isn't so perfect after all. It all starts with a Saturday group going to the worst town in Connecticut to paint and spruce up an old church called Good Shepard. It's there she meets Venita. All of a sudden a gang member from the outside catches the church on fire. Everyone gets out okay, but Macey has a little accident. She pulls through okay though. Macey gets interested in fires after that. Austin and Macey start to research a barn fire that happened in their neighborhood in 1959. After Venita is killed in a gang shoot out Macey realizes what Venita has left her and keeps researching the 1959 barn fire and is shocked to find out that her neighborhood is anything but perfect.

Summary: Burning Up, a great racial story set in 1997.
Review: Burning Up, written by Caroline B. Cooney, is a great book. Cooney writes about a girl named Macey Clare. She has to do a local history project. She chooses to do a barn fire in 1959 and gets involved in it, but no one will answer her questions about it. She finds out that an African American was living in the barn that caught on fire. I am not going to tell you the ending because it is such a good book. I think everyone who likes to read should read this book. I chose this book because Cooney is a great author and I like mystery books. I give it five stars because it is ONE OF THE GREATEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ.
