Rating: Summary: It was an awesome book!!!! Review: I think this is because the characters in Downriver took a big risk going down the Grand Canyon without a guide. Dangerous! Terrifying! Suspence! I enjoyed reading this book, even though my teacher made us read it in class. Each one of us took a character in the book. I was Freddie. Freddie is a loner, but he likes Jessie. He always came through for the gang whenever they needed him. Great book! Really really great book!!!!
Rating: Summary: This was a great book!!! Review: I really like this book. I rate this book a 10. We just finshed reading Downriver in my English class. Jessie was a big help in the book. She was the narrator in the story. She was honest telling the story. I think that Will Hobbs is a great author because he developed the chacarters so realistically.
Rating: Summary: This book was boring. Review: I rate this book {Downriver}a 3 for a few reasons. One reason is because it is hard to understand. It is not well explained. Another reason is because it does not have a lot of action. And when it does have action it focuses too much on one character. Then when you go to another character, you jump right into him/her and it gets very confusing.
Rating: Summary: I thought this book was cool! Review: I thuoght this book was cool becase there is alot of excitement and I thought all the cariters had a very good time on the trip. I reaiiy had a good time reading the book downriver. I rated the book a 10!!!!I would like to read the book over agin.
Rating: Summary: It was an okay book Review: The story Downriver is an really okay book in my opinon. Well think about this a group of teenagers steel equipment and make it down the Grand Caynon I mean really if a group of teenagers stole a bunch of equipment and tried to go down the Grand Caynon they would get caught. But think about this no one in there right mind would steel equipment and try to go down the Grand Caynon.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! This book is great! Review: I love this book. It is the best book that I have read in a long time. Normally, the Lonestar and Newberry books that we have to read in school are really boring and slow. This is a book that almost everyone in the grade has read. If I talk to someone that hasn't read Downriver, I am literally shocked. That's how much I (and everyone else in the grade) love it. We hold an awards cermony every year for books. This year, I think that Downriver has a great chance for winning either Best Lonestar or Best Adventure. If you havn't read this book yet, where have you been? This is a fast-pased adverture where a bunch teenagers, all with very different views and backgrounds, are struggling against the elements of nature with only thier wits and brians to guide them. If you have read any of Will Hobbs' books, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Rating: Summary: No. No. No. No. Review: What are the chances that a group of teens (most of them has little to no experience with rafting) that escape with a bunch of stolen equipment will go relatively safely through one of the most dangerous rivers of the US ? Also, notice where the adventure takes place the Grand Canyon ! One of (if not the) most popular national park in the US; but of course, the group goes almost completely undetectable. Yeah, Right. If a group of teens would really escape (especially with stolen equipment) and raft through White river, half of the US's rangers and policemen would be after them !
Also notice how educational this book is: A group of teens escape with stolen equipment, ride through one of the most dangerous rivers in the US, safely, and - of course - there's a happy ending: the teens "discover" themselves. Boy, I can hardly wait to steal my dad's car and "discover" California. But wait - I mean, this is a fiction book, isn't it ? Well, at least let the adventure make up for it! In my opinion, this book is B-O-R-I-N-G ! It's difficult to explain why it is boring . It's just boring
Rating: Summary: This book is awesome Review: A few days ago when I got this book out of the library, I
wasn't expecting what I read...
This book was awesome because Will really puts detail
into the book. Not just into the setting, but into the characters. It's like he builds a life for them!!
When we had to write a book report for English, I chose
this book.
Great Book!!!
Rating: Summary: Differences, like Mother Nature, are Rough AND Beautiful Review: Downriver by Will Hobbs reviewed by Maia HazelwoodWill Hobbs has created an exquisitely plotted, nail-biting experience that has great morals and teaches about the values of friendship and family. The characters learn that nature brings people together and can change a person's outlook on life. The main character, Jessie, and her friends are at a summer camp for troubled kids that they call "Hoods in the Woods." At the beginning of the book, all of their lives are going down river. As they are plunged into the great adventure of rafting down the rough Colorado River, the characters' personalities and the conflicts between them come out. Troy is stunning but turns out to be selfish and narcissistic. Star is weak and fragile but transforms into a self-confident person. There are other characters too, each one very different. This really brings the story to life. You get this overwhelming feeling when you read this book, a feeling of how good life is if you can look at it in a certain way. You can feel the everlasting friendships that the characters form. You feel the tension as they fight for their lives against nature's forces. You know that with every catastrophe they face and overcome, they are only closer to the ultimate win that comes at the end. It is a phenomenal book. I can say that I have found a respect not as much for nature, but for people. It has increased my awareness of how wonderfully different we are. The book twists into a novel about the love and friendships people can make when you get past your differences. I do have an attitude towards Mother Nature that she can be rough and beautiful. If you want to get all you can out of her, you have to experience them both.
