Rating: Summary: Downriver Review: Downriver. That is exactly where Jessie and the rest of the "Hoods in the Woods Crew" are going. In this excellent adventure by Will Hobbs, the crew decides that a ten-day floating trip down the San Juan River is "not cool." Instead they ditch their leader, Al, and "borrow" his gear to go down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. They soon discover that the consequences are extreme. The author makes the experiences seem incredibly real, including a bit of humor along the way. The rapids range from 6-7 to 10 in the Grand Canyon, and without a permit, this is illegal as well as dangerous. This is a gripping adventure that will have the readers locked in a trance, hesitant to put the book down. The adventure ahead is filled with unthinkable dangers. One mistake could end up costing a life. Will they make it? Will they master the roaring water? Read the book to find out! We recommend this book for poeple who enjoy intense adventures, and for people who like rafting. We loved the book and think you will too.
Rating: Summary: Relationships, like Mother Nature, Can Be Rough AND Beautifu Review: Will Hobbs has created an exquisitely plotted, nail-biting experience that has great morals and teaches about the values of friendship and family. The characters learn that nature brings people together and can change a person's outlook on life. The main character, Jessie, and her friends are at a summer camp for troubled kids that they call "Hoods in the Woods." At the beginning of the book, all of their lives are going down river. As they are plunged into the great adventure of rafting down the rough Colorado River, the characters' personalities and the conflicts between them come out. Troy is stunning but turns out to be selfish and narcissistic. Star is weak and fragile but transforms into a self-confident person. There are other characters too, each one very different. This really brings the story to life. You get this overwhelming feeling when you read this book, a feeling of how good life is if you can look at it in a certain way. You can feel the everlasting friendships that the characters form. You feel the tension as they fight for their lives against nature's forces. You know that with every catastrophe they face and overcome, they are only closer to the ultimate win that comes at the end when everything falls into place. It is a phenomenal book. I can say that I have found a respect not as much for nature, but for people. It has increased my awareness of how wonderfully different we are. The book twists into a novel about the love and friendships people can make when you get past your differences. I do have an attitude towards Mother Nature that she can be rough and beautiful. If you want to get all you can out of her, you have to experience them both.

Rating: Summary: Downriver by Will Hobbs Review: The book Downriver by Will Hobbs is a very exciting book. It talks about 8 teenagers that try to take on a lot of resoponsibility. These 8 teenagers leave their leader behind to go rafting on the Colorado river. At first these guys thought that they were in for a lot of fun. They have to survive the outdoors for 10 days because thats how long their food supply will last for. Along the way, they meet some big risks that may cause some bit consenquences. They don't have enough food to last that long. Troy, the guy that wants to be the boss, got them into this mess. NOW how can Jessie get everyone away from Troy and Pug(this big guy who is on Troy's side all the way). When they did something bad to their wilderness guy Freddy. Jessie has to deal with arguments everytime. She has to do something about it. all this rouble is going to get really ugly. Will Jessie chose the right side? To find out read the book Downriver by Will Hobbs.

Rating: Summary: The So So Book Review: This book was not that bad, but not that good either. It's about kids who are going to a camp called Discovery Unlimited, which is like a nature education camp for troubled kids.Al is the supervisior of the kids, and Jessie and her friends are the main characters of the book. Jessie is a troubled girl who is just having a problem with her dad because... I didn't really like this book as much because, its not really that descriptive. Its hard for me to picture the character's surroundings and they don't really describe what the characters look like, except their personality. In the beginning of the book it tells where the characters are, but you can't tell where or what the area looks like. take this quote as an example, "the San Juan Mountains in the southwestern Colorado, coaxing and pushing us over the passes and into the peaks." However one thing I like about the book is that the author doesn't make the characters talk as much, it gets to the more exciting parts of the story faster, instead of sitting down read the sentences of awhole converstion that the characters are having. Like in the beginning of the book they'll just describe the characters and tell you whats going on in a few pages instead of 20 pages. My most favorite part of this story was in the beginning, when they were about to climb Storm King Peak. It reminds me of when I was in sixth grade camp and we got to go hiking. Except we didn't climb big tall mountains and used rope to climb tall cliffs.
