Summary: Extremely Helpful
Review: I used this book and C++ for You++ solely to prepare for the AP exam. Not ever having taken a computer science course, it was comforting and helpful to have sample questions and exams, not to mention a great topical outline with which to prepare. It is, however, an review book, and not an instructional text.

Summary: Excellent book. Helped out a lot!
Review: I used this book to prepare for the AP exam along with the Litvin book, and the diffrences were trmendous. While both books gave a review, the Litvin book went the extra step by adding test taking tips in each section. It also included an explanation of the answer, something this book didn't do. Both texts contain practice exams for both the A and AB level exams. The exams in this book were easy compared to the Litvin book, and they didn't give explanations to the free-response questions, just the answers. I'm glad I used the Litvin book too because this book would have sunk me on the AP test

Summary: Pretty Good
Review: I'm a High School student taking APCS and this book is a real help in studing for the test which is coming up. The practice tests are excellent and since the author was the chair of the committee that wrote the exam for apcs test in c++, you know that the questions found in the practice tests are going to be similar to the ones on the real test.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very Good
Review: The book was concise and very good at pointing out details that appeared on the AP test. The practice tests are useful if you look back in the book to learn why you got certain problems wrong.

Summary: Author's comments
Review: The goal of this book is to help you prepare for the APComputer Science Exam (either the A or the AB exam). I spent manyyears on the committee that writes the AP Computer Science exams, so Ithink I have a good idea what kinds of questions you will find on the exam! Please note that this book is a review book, not a textbook. You will need to read a textbook and/or take a computer science class to learn the material; this book will then help you review for the AP exam.

This book provides:

o Copies of the AP CS topic outlines for the A and AB courses.

o Seven chapters that review the topics covered on the exam. Each chapter includes practice multiple-choice questions (and answers) for the material covered in that chapter.

o Hints on how to do your best when you take the exam.

o Six complete practice exams (3 A exams and 3 AB exams).

o Answers to the practice exam questions, including multiple solutions to the free-response questions, and explanations of common errors.

o A glossary of technical terms.

I hope you find this book helpful! END

Summary: Very concise; It has good practice exams.
Review: This book did somewhat help me in reviewing for the exam with its brief review of certain topics covered on the actual AP exam in C++. A bit of advise would be to know everything there is to know about apmatrix, apvector, apstring, structs, and especially the case study from the College Board. The 1999 exam was fairly difficult if you were not strong in the above areas. Overall, this book by Horwitz is helpful in preparing for the exam alone with it's practice tests. If you want more in depth review for the exam, you should also look into the new study guide published by REA in C++.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This book was helpful.
Review: This book helped in teaching C++, but should be used only if preparing for the AP computer science test, if you want to learn C++ definetly look elsewhere for this book requires at least minimal knowledge of general programming.

Summary: Not that great
Review: This book is good in that it has a couple practice exam, but thats as far as it goes. I would recommend studying from your book then buying this book. I believed that it was a complete waste of money.

Summary: Excellent book. Helped out a lot!
Review: This book was excellent in preparation for the AP Computer Science test. I found that because the author of this book was on the board that created the questions, a lot of the questions on the AP test were worded in a very similar fashion. Helped a lot! Would recommend to those who have taken the course. By the I got a 4 on the AP test. :)
