Summary: Damage
Review: The novel Damage by A.M. Jenkins is a very interesting story. It is about the life of a young six- teen year old football star named Austin Reid. Austin is a very confused young man and he has no motivation to get up and start his day. Austin is very depressed with his life. His father died when he was three-years old from lung cancer and he still has many memories of his father being a positive person in his life. Austin is a very athletic handsome teenager that constantly thinks about football and girls. He meets a beautiful girl named Heather at Dairy Queen and eventually begins to date her. Austin likes Heather a lot and can relate to her because her father died when she was young as well. It may seem that Austin's life is fine however; he is very sad and depressed. He begins to feel that there is no purpose to life and that he wants to end his own life. The story continues on with the troubles that Austin encounters. Is he able to get help or help himself? Read the novel and find out.
I enjoyed this novel because it was very descriptive and clearly explained how the characters felt. For example every morning when Austin would try to wake up the author explained that he could not breath signifying the death of his father. Also, I liked the love story between Austin and Heather. They had a great connection and shared a lot of affection between each other.
There were not many things that I did not enjoy about the novel. The content of the book was repetitive. For example, the author explained how much Austin liked Heather and how she smelled so beautifully and how they would make out on every page. The author concentrated on writing mostly about Austin and Heather and did not include other characters or adventures in the story. The only weakness of the book was the lack of content and story line.
Overall, I believe that this is a good novel. I would recommend young adults to read this novel because they will be more likely to relate to the story. Although the book focuses on Austin and Heathers life there is a powerful message behind the story. I would encourage others to read it!

Summary: A true ending for a great book (Spoiler warning!)
Review: The reviewer below seems to have misread the ending of this wonderful book. Austin's problems don't "miraculously disappear." Austin finally faces the fact that he has a problem and takes the first tiny steps toward helping himself.

I understand why a teacher or a caring adult would want the book to show Austin taking that next huge step toward healing by seeing a professional therapist of some kind. But please trust the reader. Teenagers are smart enough to know that the end isn't where things stop. With a well-written book, they know enough about the character and situation to project into the future and determine for themselves what path Austin will take.

Summary: real good
Review: this book is a good book for people that feel like austin, help them relize that u have to talk to some one to feel better. If u r clinically deppressed this would be a good book to read, but also if ur not then this would still be a good book to read.

Summary: Riveting, honest and devastating
Review: This book pulls no punches in describing what it feels like to be clinically depressed. Football hero Austin tries everything he knows to feel better, including hooking up with the beautiful Heather, but he can't shake the nothingness he feels, and it nearly destroys him. I was especially impressed by the book's refusal to bow to typical bibliotherapy answers; Austin doesn't consult a professional or even tell his best friend how he's feeling. Most teens wouldn't, either. DAMAGE tells it like it is, and in so doing, gives readers a way to understand.

Summary: EXCELLENT!!
Review: This is a can't put down book! You FEEL the heaviness of Austin's life. The voice is compelling and totally believable. We all know people like Austin--WE may be like Austin. This book is important and memorable, and extremely well-written. Read it!

Summary: Good, but hard to get into
Review: This is a good book, especially since there aren't many books out there for boys. I think any boy who has played football or any other sport can relate to this, but it can be hard to get into. I think it would have been better if it were written in first person. A quick read, if you can get past this.

Summary: Excellent!!
Review: When I picked up this book at the library I didn't know how much I would like it. At first I didn't think I was going to read it, becuase I read the first page and it was in 2nd person, and that bothered me. But after I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. It's an awesome book, that is told excellently. The second person helps you understand it better, and it also allows you to see it from a different view, such as his own. It really touched me and I hope that others read it also. I like the way the book ended, it took me for a loop hole, becuase I thought it was going to end completely different!
