Rating: Summary: a review from a cute guy in co/denver Review: Damage was a interesting book. It's about this boy named Austin Reid who is the star of his football team "Panthers". Austin has lost all of his intrest in things that he likes. Austin is a very depressed 17 year old boy who is thinking about suicide. He is a very popular guy and all of the girls are in love with him. He just doesn't see why he should go on. He had never really got to know his father because he died when austin was only five years of age. I enjoyed the novel very much.I think A.M Jenkins is a brilliant writer. I think that a lot of people can relate to this book at one point and time.Everybody goes through depression at least one point in time. That is also why I enjoyed the athour because he/she brings the depression out of the book and to you. I thought it was very interesting how Austin and his girlfriend Heather encounterd with each other. There are a couple of things that I don't like though. I wish that they would take some of sexual things that they had in the storey should be taken out. By doing this I think it would make it more suitable for younger kids. I also didn't like how the book was written mostly in the second person. For instance "You look in the mirror and the person you see is not the same person you used to be. Like in the picture hanging over the bed." I really didn't like that at all. Overall the book was very good and I would sugest it to everyone 13 and older. I really liked how the athor brought out the depression to you. I thought that was really awsome. It makes you think about yourself and how you feel.
Rating: Summary: Been there, done that. Review: Having finished "Damage", I can only conclude that the author must have been severely depressed at one point in her life. Nobody could write about the illness so realistically unless she experienced it herself. I know, because I've been there. It looks like everything's going for Austin. He's a football star. He's good-looking and has good friends. He just got a beautiful new girlfriend. But Austin has a secret -- he's depressed. So depressed it's difficult to get out of bed in the mornings. He lies there and stares out the window and thinks about suicide. But he's afraid to tell anyone about his problem, not even his girlfriend Heather, whose father killed himself when she was little. The author never gives a main reason for Austin's depression, which I like, because in my experience depression never has a single cause. You get hints about his dead father, but that's it. Many people might be annoyed by this, but I am not. I like the ending too: Austin tried to tell Heather his problem, but she freaked out, and he ended up opening up to somebody else who had been concerned for him since the very beginning. You get the feeling that Austin's friend is going to help him, and he'll start rising out of the black pit he's in. An excellent novel. A. M. Jenkins tells it like is. I'll be sure to read all of her other books; I just hope they're half as good as "Damage".
Rating: Summary: An intense read! Review: I don't know why I picked this book up, but I'm glad I did. This has to be the most intense book I've ever read. Don't let the fact that it's written in second person (y'know, like "You get up and you put on your shoes") scare you off. That only makes you feel like you are right there in Austin's head, looking out. Except Austin is trying to get away from himself, so he has to think of what's happening as happening to someone else, not to him. Lot's of other great characters like Austin's best friend Curtis and his girlfriend Heather who is obsessed with keeping the surface of her life perfect and when she finds out Austin isn't the perfect guy she thought he was, he doesn't fit into her plans. Read this book! I promise you won't be able to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Damaging information?? Review: I look for books that can be given or read to students that will help them understand their issues -- for self-understanding and hope. I thought that this book did a good job of describing depression. However, in this book the young man's problems miraculously disappeared practically overnight as the result of breaking up with a girl (and she wasn't the initial cause of the depression). I would want a youth with such severe depression to get professional help.
Rating: Summary: HOT GRILS and football Review: I recomend this book to anyone who doesn't like to read because I don't either, but I really liked this book. The auther A.M. Jenkins did a really good job of showing what highschool life is really like. The main characters are Austin and Curtis. Curtis warns Austin about his new girlfriend. She has always gone out with older guys but is now going out with him. Austin has his father's razer. It is the only thing of his dad's left. His father died of cancer. Austin often thinks about suicide because of the things that are going on in his life. Austin and his friends are on their high school football team. Austin is known as "pride of the Panthers". I don't like to read, but this book was so good, I was reading it as much as possible.
Rating: Summary: Damage Book Review Review: In this novel, Austin Reid is the "Pride of the Panthers" on his football team. Ever since his father died of cancer when he was three, he has been secretly suicidal and depressed. He has always been good with the ladies, but now he's finally got the attention of the prettiest girl in town, Heather. Every day after football practice he takes Heather home. But when he starts to wonder about his relationship with his father, things get a little crazy. The cruel drills of his militant football coach don't help either; successfully demonstrating just how intolerant a male can be of weakness. I enjoyed that the book was written in the second person, as it was more interesting that way. I also enjoyed Austin's best friend Curtis, because he knew all along about Heather --- he was good with people. I enjoyed that once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. I didn't like that the book didn't really have a main event and it just went on and on about Austin's life. I also didn't like that the book mostly took place in his house or at football practice. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. It grasps your mind and you feel like all events are actually taking place in your life. This is a must-read novel.
Rating: Summary: Wow! This was a very good book. It had a good structure Review: It was about a 18-year old boy named Austin Reid that was the star of the football team. He loves this girl named Heather who is supposedly the best looking girl in Texas to the boys at her school and her and Austin hook up. At the beginning they had a very good relationship. Then something happened to the relationship that will change their own future. The part I liked was the way he was a good football player, had friends, and kind of related to real life. I also like how sometimes him and Heather really liked each other and in other times they hated each other. I liked that it wasn't a love story like it sounded. The thing I didn't like about it was how they went from not even knowing eachother to making out. I think it would have been a better book if they would have built up to their relationship. That was about the only thing I didn't like. Other than that it was a great book and I didn't want to put it down.

Rating: Summary: Mesmorizing Review: The book Damage was not only one of the best books I have read so far this year it is one of the top 10 on my favorites list. The book is fictional but there is truth and reality in the contents. I thought the author did an absolutley terrific job and I can't wait until the next publication. I loved the second person and how captivating the plot was. The football hero goes into depression thing is amazingly true in most small town situations. This book is a must read for anyone.
Rating: Summary: Damage Book Review Review: The book Damage, Austin Reid is "The Pride of the Panthers" on his High-school football team. His father dies when he, Austin is only three. Austin unfortunatly remembers nothing at all about him. Now he lives with his mother and sister at home next to his neighbor and best friend Curtis. He is great with ladies and has captured the heart of the most beautiful girl in town, Heather. He and Heather are madly in love and Austin takes Heather home every day after school. Ever since his father died, Austin has thought a lot about him and thought about committing suicide. I really liked how the story could relate with real life events and had a very believable plot and storyline. It was not about anything that could never happen in real life. It kept me interested throughout the whole book and did not get too boring at any points. Something in Damage I didn't like was the second person writing style the author used. I didn't like it because it could get confusing at certain times and it was annoying. Overall, I think the novel is a great one for any young reader who likes to read about real life events. I definatly recommend Damage---by A.M. Jenkins.
