Rating: Summary: On Fortune's Wheel Review: Cynthia Voigt's description of the relationship between Inkeeper's Daughter (Birle), and an ambitous Lord (Orien) left me wanting more of a romance story, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this account of their adventures together.
Rating: Summary: "There are some who say Lady Fortune has a wheel..." Review: Fourteen year old Birle, an innkeeper's daughter, is not content with her life. One night she sees a thief stealing her father's boat, and pursues him. She finds out the thief is really a lord, unreachable but very loveable. Much to Orien's (the lord) chagrin, Birle accompanies him on a journey they will remember forever. They become ship wrecked on a deserted island, only to be rescued by pirates and sold into slavery. Birle gets the good fortune of being the slave to a philosopher, who is extremely kind. Orien is not so lucky. He is sold to the mines, where it is said that everyone dies and no one escapes. However, Orien manages to escape, right about the time the city where Birle is in bondage is going to war. With the help of Birle's master and Yul, a gaint man but simple minded, they escape slavery and the impending war. Birle nurses Orien back to health, and in the forest they realize their love for one another. They return to Orien's kingdom, and soon Birle and Orien are caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Birle is unhappy to be a lord's wife, and voices her requests to Orien's grandparents that herself (and her coming child) can leave the kingdom-forever. Birle lives by herself in her grandparent's cottage, growing a garden and tending to her daughter, Lyss. Orien visits her in the night to tell her that they are wed, and that he loves her, and yadda yadda yadda...and they all live happily ever after. Now it may seem like I didn't enjoy this book, but I did-I really did. I love fairy tale stories, and this one was no exception. I thought the romance level could have been played up more, but whatever. The action scenes were pretty awesome, and the book vaguely reminded me of ancient Greece for some reason. If you like adventure and romance, you'll like this book.
Rating: Summary: It is exciting and so very cute! Review: Here is the story:girl catches theif, girl meets boy, girl in love at first sight, questions, doubts, slavery, hunger, escape, boy realizes he loves girl, become lord and lady, girl gets pregnant, girl leaves because she doubts boy's love, boy gets heartsick and...you can find out the end for yourself. Along with Orien's bellflower eyes the best part of the book is all of the meaning you get from the book and how much you think about it when you aren't even reading it. My favorite part is the end when Orien wants to meet Liss and he says, "Lady, my heart, when you smile like that, let the child sleep..." Orien and Birle are complex "human" characters that feel and love deeply. They make you cry, laugh, dream and wish that someday you see a pair of eyes like Oriens or a minx's smile like Birles. It is a deep and beautiful story and I recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful, beautiful story! Review: I absolutely adore this book. I'm not even exactly sure why. I love the characters. I became so involved with them that when I came to the extraordiarily happy and perfect ending, I cried for joy! The relationship between Orien and Birle is so moving and real. The one thing about the story (and about Cynthia Voigt's writing style in general) is that she kind of makes you guess at the emotions the characters are feeling. They almost seem cold. They appear to be much more thought than feeling, but every once in a while there will be one beautiful, if vague line that lets you know that they feel all the emotions, but it's kind of your responsibilty to figure out what they are. This book doesn't have tons of action, but I was never bored for a second. It was a beautiful story.
Rating: Summary: Absolutley beautiful book. Review: I absolutley loved this book! It's incredible. Especially the gut-wrenching sad moments. It has an ending I didn't expect. I couldn't put it down. The characters had such beautiful personalities. I really recommend this book to people who love romance and adventure.

Rating: Summary: Better than I expected Review: I expected this book to be just another stereotypical teenager book. But I was surprised by how good it was. It was hard to put it down.
When Birle, an innkeeper's daughter, finds a man stealing her father's boat in the middle of the night, she follows him. The next morning, when she wakes up in the same boat with the man, she decides that she wants to stay with the handsome stranger. This choice leads to a cycle of events that change Birle's life.
This is a great book. While the beginning and the end weren't as good as the middle, this book is worth reading and buying.
Rating: Summary: Blah Review: I got the Aladdin Paperbacks version of this book when I ordered it from Amazon, and it was VERY poor quality. There were dozens of spelling and punctuation errors, such as quotation marks at the end of sentences when no one had been speaking, or "clothes" spelled "cothes", or "her" instead of "here". I'm really fed up, and I haven't even finished reading it. The book itself is okay. The plot seems o drag a bit, and there were points where I got impatient for something to happen. The main character, Birle, I sometimes got annoyed at for not having as much personality as I would've liked. It still is an okay book though, but I would recommend trying to get a different edition.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Read This Year - Romantic and Beautiful! Review: I loved everything about this book! I couldn't get into the first few pages because I was distracted. But when I got into it, I couldn't put it down! Every time Birle and Orien were seperated, I weeped for them. They were love at first sight. They were supposed to be together. I was reading this for a report. It is a long book and I only had a week to read it. But it was no problem, for I couldn't put it down! Cynthia Voigt is a great author and if you like adventure\ love stories then this book is for you!
Rating: Summary: Durralcel bunny.. I keep reading it over and over and over Review: I totally LOVE this book! It is so great! I've read it several times, because the story is SO *original* and great and AWESOME! I recomend you read it! it's one of a kind. ANd I read a VERY wide range of books, and though it may not be my favorite book ever (only under a few books like Jane Eyre, Ender's Game, Counte of Monte Cristo, and A Tree Grow's in Brooklyn) it WAS really good I have to say.
