Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: An interesting and truely inpiring tale. Review: This book was astounding! The story was very inspirational. It was based on the life of Phillis Wheatly and her tale is truely amazing! I recommend this book to fans of historic fiction. I just couldn't put it down as I waited to see what was ahead. The only thing I didn't like was the depressing ending. It disappointed me thoroughly. I also didn't like some of the main characters who were vital to the story. I didn't find them very likeable. I also really enjoy romances and there was the prospect of one at the beginning which caught my interest for awhile. But she eventually ended up with the wrong person(in my opinion). I had slightly higher hopes for this book because I love Ann Rinaldi as an author. I think it's definetely worth reading, but a tiny bit disappointing. I think the reason I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped was the fact that I like cheerier, happier stories. This book presented a more realistic, truthful angle that just happened to end sadly. I would definetely recommend this book for those craving knowledge about people from the past. Overall, I did enjoy reading this book and I thought it was very well-written and interesting throuhout.

THE HELPFULNESS OF HER HUSBAND JOHN PETERS.IT IN A WORD SPECTACULAR
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of Ann Rinaldis Greatests! Review: This book was a wonderful and well written book I thought that Ann Rinaldi was really at her prime this time. The book is about Phillis Wheatly, a young slave girl, who is bought by the Wheatleys, and treasured like a daughter. When she learns to read and write, she starts writing poetry, but who knows what good and bad troubles that will bring her
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good historical fiction book Review: Although some parts were pretty boring, this book is very good. It is a very good historical fiction book.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good historical fiction. Review: It is not that I did not like it but that I could imagine being a woman during the Revolution War peorid.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Surprisingly realistic historical fiction Review: When I first picked up this book I thought it would be too "young" for my reading level, but by the middle of the book I knew I was wrong. The plot is fast-paced and the characters are well developed. At the end of the story, I realized I had just witnessed a bratty little girl grow into a beautiful young woman so realistically that I hadn't even noticed it happening. That is what makes this such a great book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An incredible narrative of an incredible young woman Review: Allright, I've read Rinaldi's books, but this is my first to own. I went to the bookstore looking for another book, but I came away glad that I got this one! Phillis's story is a dramatic, provoking, and somewhat tragic story of a young woman trying to discover herself amongst the chaos of an emerging nation. Rinaldi's story flows as beautifully as poetry....but don't you think it's a little too reminiscent of 'Wolf by the Ears?'
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book was excellant Review: I have read a lot of books but this one was by far my favorite. It was so good I told all of my friends about it and after I explained to them what it was about many of them asked me if they could borrow it. All of them that did borrow it absolutely loved it as well. This book was so well written that some of the parts actually made me cry. I also found myself smiling at many parts. If you enjoy historical fiction or even if you don't then I recommend this book to you. It was incredible the way Ann Rinaldi has captured the realism in her novels.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Greatest Ann Rinaldi ever Review: This was the greatest book of all times!! I've read it twice and am planning to start it a third time! Ann Rinaldi painted a clear picture of what it was like for Phillis Wheatley being a slave, and what she had to go thru. The historical information was really acurate!! I would strongly recommed this to anyone. Way to go Ann Rinaldi!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A reflection of excellency Review: Ms. Rinaldi has once again created a superior book. Phillis Wheatley protrays a woman of strength, diginity, and character. Ms. Rinaldi has breathed life into this heroine who has been forgotten in the young history of our nation. Only Ms. Rinaldi could create such a tantalizing and page-turning book. Her efforts should be applauded. This is my favorite of Ms. Rinaldi's novels.
