Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time & money Review: This book is intensly boring! I had to read it for a class assignment (no choice) and I could barely stay awake! Parts of the book are OK, but the rest has too much violence for me.
Rating: Summary: A book that makes you want to read on!! Review: I would recommend this book for many people that want to be in war. It shows that war is dangerous and you can get seriosly injured or even killed. It also teaches you a lot of good lessons. For example, to be prepared for war. I also liked the book, because it tells you how Jonathan became a man in one day and how complicated war can be. The characteristics of Jonathan were discribed very well. It told how he was feeling each hour of the war. I also really liked the book, because it makes you want to read on during the end of each section. The book gave good detail and very good discription of the characters. So I hope you read this book and enjoy it very much.
Rating: Summary: A good to read book, sometimes intensely boring. Review: This book was good in some parts like when they actually got to the war. Otherwise, this was to boring for me. The 24 - hou thing was very, very stupid. I mean, how stupidly often do you come across a book that takes place in 24 - hours? Totally different. And the main idea and story was very dumb. Which boy in 1777 thinks about going to war? He knows he's going to die. Jonathan had no sense at all.
Rating: Summary: I think this book was fascinating!! Review: This book about a young boy's desires to be in the Revolutionary War and his actual involvement as a soldier was extremely well-written. I felt that I was going to war with him and all he experienced was brought to life for me. I enjoyed reading this book and was actually sad when I was finished. I wanted the story somehow to continue.I I definitely would recommend this book to all young readers, like myself, who are interested in reading about historical fiction. I will be happy to read other books by this author.
Rating: Summary: It was informational, but it was boring towards the end. Review: I was reading this book in my literature class and it was okay. I don't approve this book to you if you don't like books that seem to go on and on and on. It was pretty good for a little while but lost its edge as the story went on.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Social Studies Books for Fifth Graders! Review: When I taught fifth grade this was one of my students' favorite books. It has a marvelous concept (the whole story takes place in 24 hours) and the tension builds to an incredible climax. Avi has won many awards for writing and deservedly so. This book initiates excellent discussions about the incredible conflicting emotions attached to any war. A great model for descriptive writing as well.
Rating: Summary: This book was a fair to poor read. Review: This book was a bad book because the time was inconsistent page to page. A page would equal a few seconds in one part of the book but then on another part of the book a page would equal a few hours or days. Sometimes the book was to vague or unclear. It seems like he wrote this just trying to finish it instead of putting lots of time and effort into it like a writer should
Rating: Summary: Shows what war is really like from a child's perspective Review: Any teacher looking to explain to young fourth and fifth grade (9-10 year old) minds what war is truly all about should read this book. The "glamour" of the Revolutionary War becomes all to real to students as the follow a boy not much older than themselves through battle, capture, and the desire to get back home. Along the way however, serious questions about who the "bad" guys are in war is raised. This is an easy read for good readers and one that can also be read by those who struggle. Teachers will be amazed at the insightful, thoughtful responses they will get from all of their students after reading this.
Rating: Summary: The Fighting Ground is a terrific book. Review: The Fighting Ground is a terrific book because it has a lessen about war in it. The plot is easy to follow and it is interesting. It is about a thirteen year old boy that goes to war and gets taught a lesson. The character's name is Jonathan. He is a boy with courage and discipline. He is ,however, weak.If you like action adventure, the Fighting Ground is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Good book if you want to know about the Revolutionary War!!! Review: I thought that this book is worth reading because you get a chance to learn about what it was like to live in the same time of the Revolutionary War. Johnathan who is 13 is ready to fight the British. His dad won't let him. I don't tell you the whole book, but I would recomend this book to anyone who loves books like this. Happy reading!
