Rating: Summary: Characters not unique, ok plot, but generally deserves 4! Review: This isn't the peak of all books. That's for sure. There are a few flaws that made me knock a star off. First, the characters seem, I don't know, a bit familiar. Maybe its the classic time period that's the problem. There's always the handsome youngman everyone's in love with, and another girl who's tough as nails and is all about fighting man-dominance. Then there's the "fatal beauty" (Redwall readers might know what I'm talking about) who everyone's goggling at, and the uglier, love-struck girl who is jealous of the other one. Same old stuff. Second of all, the plot's a bit slushy. Read the summary. I got it straight off the back of the book:SUMMARY: Imagine changing centuries - and making things worse, not better, on both sides of time. Imagine being involved in two love triangles in two different centuries. Imagine discovering that, no matter which direction you travel in time, you must abandon someone you love. Meet fifteen-year old Annie Lockwood, a romantic living in the wrong century. When she travels back a hundred years and lands in 1895, a time when privileged young ladies wear magnificent gowns, attend elegant oarties, and are courted by handsome gentlemen, Annie at last finds romance .... It goes on, but you get the gist. My opinion is that the plot isn't a strong feeling. It's not leading anywhere very much. It lags on for a little, but picks up its pace when Cooney livens everything up. And its really funny when they (some 1895 people) meet Annie, as she comes from a more free century. They act like she's a dog or something. Otherwise, its an excellent book. It's a mix of a fantasy, romance, and mystery novel, making it interesting and exciting at the same time. There are many side things that push the book's value even higher. I recommend this book to those people who don't care about the two flaws I've pointed out. Later! ~*DatBzzEB*~
Rating: Summary: An exciting sequel Review: Annie Lockwood, a fifteen-year-old girl, lives in the wrong century. She dreams of romantic dinners with the man of her dreams that will sweep her off of her feet. Unfortunately she doesn't have the gentelman who could give her exactly what she wants. She has Sean. He is far from her fantasies. When she travels back to the 1800s, she gets her chance at true love. There she meets the guy she'd been dreaming about her whole life. Strat is from the well respected and rich family of the town where their mansion sits. Annie is welcomed to stay with the family, though they have no idea who she really is and where she is from. Strat and Annie quickly fall in love with each other but for how long can it last? She knows that she can't stay there, in that time forever. She wants to stay, but for how long will time let her stay? Caroline B. Cooney keeps the 1800s love and romance alive in this great book.
Rating: Summary: A WONDERFUL BOOK Review: This book, written by Cooney is one of the best I have ever read. It is filled with love, history, adventure, mystery, and common problems associated with teens today. This is the perfect book for helpless romantics (like me) who love to read. I highly recommened reading this book. ** If you would like to continue reading the "Time" sereie, read OUT OF TIME, PRISONER OF TIME, AND FOR ALL TIME.
Rating: Summary: Reader in Florida: I loved this book!!! Review: First of all, I have always loved the way Caroline has written. I bought this book at a book fair a couple of years ago,and well, since i'm not much of a reader, it has been sitting on my shelf ever since then. We recently started school, and need a book to read during class. Well, i couldn't find one so i decided to finally pick this one up and start reading it. The very first day i started, i couldn't put it down! I loved it! I like the way she has made a romance novel, a murder mystery and a book that sorta makes you think all in one. Annie seemed to be the perfect type of character for it. The way she fell back in time, and then spent all of that time there, and then went back to her time and messed everything up, just seemed really interesting. I also liked the way Strat's character was. He seemed like the perfect gentlemen that any girl like Annie Lockwood would want to have. I don't want to give too much of the story away, so that you can actually read it. All I have to say, is that it was a great book!! I can't wait to read the sequel!! Caroline, Keep up the good work and may your computer never crash in the middle of a story!! :-)
Rating: Summary: Time Takes Hold of Annie and Strat's Forbidden Love... Review: In this romantic and thrilling book, time rips Annie Lockwood from her normal life and take her beyond all dreams. She gets called to the 19th century by fallings, and there, she at last finds her love, Strat, that will forever steal her heart. While learning to deal with her problems at home- parent affairs, her boyfriend who refuses to show his love, and her friends, Annie must now learn to cope with love. Time brought two people together... but it also tears people apart, for Annie is torn from her family 100 years in the future and Strat, 100 years in the past. With romance, adventure, murder, and fantasy, "Both Sides of Time" gives hope to everyone searching for love... whether in their own time or in another... This beautifully written book has stayed with me for the past four years, and I intend to keep it forever. Annie and Strat's adventures are wonderfully written by the talented Ms. Cooney. The reader should know that the author a unique language for writing that draws the person in... It is my favorite book and it will forever stay that way. Annie and Strat's adventures do not end there; they are continued throughout the Time Quartet: Both Sides of Time, Out of Time, Prisoner of Time, and For All Time.
Rating: Summary: Both Sides of Time by Caroline B. Cooney Review: Both Sides of Time is a well thought out book about a girl named Anna Sophia Lockwood who gets whisked back a hundred years to 1895! She falls in love with a boy as well as the way they live, dress and talk. She can't be in two worlds at once, so it is up to Anna to choose the right descision. Stay with her dream boy, or go back to her loving family.
Rating: Summary: "Both Sides of Time" - my favorite book! Review: I love this book!!! It really is my favorite. I'm in love with the whole time travel concept! There is no dull moment in this book at all. I picked it up expecting just "eh...", but instead, i got "ah"s, "oh"s, *gasp*s, and so many other expressions. I read the book in one sitting, without putting it down! There are so many emotions in this book, it's as if you're there, and you're feeling everything that they're feeling, right down to the jumping jacks that Annie's stomach must have been doing or the twitches of jealousy that almost every character had. I loved that this book was a teen romance, fantasy, mystery, and suspense story all rolled into one. The ending of this story was indeed a cliffhanger. After finishing this book, I just had to go out and get the sequels. I really enjoyed the story of the love between the two main characters from two different worlds, 1895 and 1995. The ending is one of those where you could just read it over and over again. It's that interesting! I read the ending about five times! Fantastic story! READ THIS BOOK!!
Rating: Summary: A Book About Two Centuries Review: I loved this book because of how it talked about what it was like in 1995 and in 1895. Caroline B. Cooney must have done a lot of reaserarch on what it was like in those days and it really shows. Anyone who can't get their boyfriend of girlfriend to be the romantic person they want than you should definitly read this book. I found it very interesting that women could not have bare legs and had to call men of their age mister. It really taught me a lot about how much diiferent life is today. I strongly suggest that you read this book. -Jonathan
