Summary: A good read.
Review: This is the best book I have ever read. It is a must read by anyone who claims to like science fiction. Heinlein throws you into action in the first chapter of the book, then puts you through the toughest boot camp in the world. Finaaly he puts you on some planet in the middle of nowhere with a lot of other people in the M.I.(mobile infantry) and an alien race thats only goal is to destroy you. Definitely a great book!!!

Summary: One of the all-time great science fiction novels
Review: A work of future history in which space travel has become commonplace, Starship Troopers outlines a strongly authoritarian and centralized society evolved from the chaos of a late 20th Century war. Heinlein reveals the new order in bits and pieces over the course of the story; the reader becomes a student of future political science. The future world that Heinlein builds grows more fascinating with every page. More than half of the book establishes a compelling logic behind the future social order, its acceptance among the population and the reasons for its stability. The training of the Troopers is inventive and engaging; the brilliant description of their weaponry, tactics and command structure propels the reader from page to page seeking more detail. The conflict with the Bugs, which provides the engaging action passages in the story, is true genius on several levels. The alien nature of the Bugs' society with their mysterious tactics and apparent invincibility stimulates the reader's sense of apprehension and fascination as the novel builds to its climax. As an alien society, they provide a sharp and unmistakable contrast to the Troopers organization and philosophy. The Bugs instill fear, not only in the Troopers but also in the reader himself. Starship Troopers permits the reader to experience Heinlein's future world in detail that could only be surpassed by living it ourselves.

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: This book is wonderful. Since seeing the movie, I was interested to find out more. Upon reading the original Heinlein novel, I found myself stunned by the fact that it was actually better than the movie. I'm not saying that the movie isn't good - it's excellent, but the original novel is a whole lot better because Heinlein's words haven't been changed. This book is so popular with people that it even inspired movies like ALIENS (1986) that wouldn't have been the same if Starship Troopers hadn't been released.

Summary: This is the book that inspired my views of a better society
Review: This is one of the greats. It has inspired me to attempt to reform society in order to create more of a civilized world. PS there is no Gnome, Alaska!

Summary: Horrid. Zero stars.
Review: This was the most poorly written and executed book I have read in decades. Deadly booring. Run from this overhyped title. One of the few books I have ever thrown away in disgust.

Summary: One Great Book.
Review: I have never been so fascinated by such talent in writing. This book was excellent in telling what the world could be like in the future. He brings up very intresting points in this book. Truly, one of my all-time favorites!

Summary: A glimpse into a very possible future...
Review: This is Heinlein's masterpiece. In it you will find a new society in which to become a citizen and given the right to vote, you must serve in the military...below you will see a few negative reviews of this book. This is mainly due to certain readers going into arms because they feel heinlein is not being critical enough in his presentation of this neo earth society. If you wish to read a critical analysis might i suggest 1984, Animal Farm, and A Brave New World (All great by the way). If you want to read something that is completely new to you then i suggest this story. If you read through this book (and believe me you will do it quickly) you will find that the setting that Heinlein creates may have been one of his true visions for the future...this book is truly interesting stuff and as you follow rico's exploits you will be surprised how you come to care for his character and those around him just as if you were in his cap troop.

Summary: Heinlein at his politically irreverent best!
Review: Heinlein may not be with us, but his unorthodox and controversial ideas remain in books like Starship Troopers. Troopers is a first class action story in itself, and an insight into the right wing philosophy of the sci-fi great. Many liberal minded readers may be disturbed by Heinlein's views on voting or all out war, but it should be noted that what makes his books unique are his own unabashed display of his individual beliefs. I don't support many of his views, but the problems he raised in the book, such as modern armies becoming bogged down in administrative functions, or the need for maturity in an electorate existed when he wrote the book and I daresay exist today. The story itself is first class and militarily realistic. Heinlein's knowledge of military procedures and hierarchy from his own navy career shine through. It has good sci-fi ideas, though one wonders about using nuclear weapons as RPG's. Non-proliferation was obviously not an issue when this book was written. All in all, classic Heinlein.

Summary: A diamond in the rough......Starship Troopers Is Great!
Review: Like most new readers I read this book after seeing the movie. Well now that same movie I enjoyed is almost painful. The book is so amazingly better, the movie just stinks in comparison. If you have seen the movie, and hated it the book will amaze you at how great the movie could have been. If you enjoyed the movie, the book will make you an even bigger "trooper" fan. Heinlein (the author) grabs you and thrusts you into a futuristic society, where the technology is not as half as amazing as the political ideas. The book made me admire the very patriotic and bravery of the M.I. and how they always will try to save thier own. I reccomend this book to anyone who likes action and political ideas.

Summary: Kick @$$
Review: Far better than the movie. I love the way he describes a government of the future. I'd rather read the book than see the movie.
