Rating: Summary: Henry... Review: This wild book series contains a charector that somewhat reminds me of Harry Potter. This story is also wonderful in the way that it shows the readers that anything is possible, as long as you try!
Rating: Summary: Wizard's Review Review: Wizard's Hall by Jane Yolen is a great book! Henry (the main character) is a wizard, not the best wizard in the world, but he tries. He tries because that's what his dear ma told him before he leaves for Wizard's Hall, which is a unique and fascinating wizard school that Henry attends. Henry overhears the magisters talking about an enchantment upon Wizard's hall that could make the school close forever! Will Henry and his friends be able to save Wizard's hall?I really enjoyed reading Wizard's Hall! Out of 4 stars I would give this book 4. I would give it 4 stars because, it is creative. I think that Jane Yolen's purpose in writing this book was to tell readers what she thought a wizarding world would be like.
Rating: Summary: The pioneer Review: WIZARD'S HALL is the original book of young wizards. It's original and the best book to sit down by a fire with on a rainy day. It's not complicated wich makes the book so interesting. It makes simple statements and is a different style of writing. It is about a boy who decides to become a wizard. He is sent to a simple school where the teachers are worried about an evil villan. To tell more would be giving away would be too much and disposing of certain qualities the book maintains.
Rating: Summary: A different kind of harry potter Review: Wizards hall is a great book, written by jane yolen. thornmallow wants to become a wizard so his mom sends him off to wizards hall. when he gets there, he finds out that he is the last student that will be excepted because they need 113 other wizards to defeat an evil shadow creature. this book is a lot like harry potter. its not as long and personally, i dont like it as much as Harry Potter BUT this is a marvelous book. i think you should rent it from the library then if you really like it, you can buy it!
Rating: Summary: Wizards Hall Review: Wizards Hall is about a 12 year old boy who goes to a magic school and ends up saving the whole school. This does not compare with the Harry Potter series because it does not have as much action and it is quite a bit shorter. Wizards Hall is where children go study magic after learning if they're witches or wizards. Doctor Morning Glory, or Dr. Mo, a witch who is under the spell of an enchantment, and Register Oakbend, an old wizard professor who is blind and speaks in riddles, tells them if they are able to become a witch or wizard. All students get new names. Henry's name is Thornmallow because he is prickly on the outside an squishy within. Henry meets new friends and makes an enemy but the whole story goes along slowly until it turns out the school is in danger and they need 113 students to make a spell to kill the monster. they also have to defeat it's master because he would have killed them it they didn't. I like this book because it teaches a lesson to always be willing to try. If you like books about magic than you will like this one.I would recommend this to another fourth grader because it is just a good book period.
Rating: Summary: Predecessor to Harry Potter! Review: Wizards Hall was actually written in the late 1980's long before the Harry Potter books. I read Wizards Hall many years ago, so when I started reading Harry Potter I immediately recognized the remarkable similarities between the two books, so much so that I wrote the author of Wizards Hall to find out if she was going to sue! The same company that published Harry Potter originally published Wizards Hall, but dropped it when they signed for Harry Potter. This idea did not go over well it seems, and Wizards Hall was brought back in paper-back. Harry Potter is written in a lot more detail, but if you want real imagination, this is the book to read. The book and plot were well thought out, and the story is one that is memorable for years to come.
