Rating: Summary: Not bad, not spectacular... Review: I've noticed that when people really like a book, they don't type much, just something along the lines of "I loved it!" or "It was TOTALLY AWESOME! " On the other hand, if they didn't like it, they had a lot to say; complaining about every single little detail. While this book has its flaws, it does have its good points too. Not knock-your-socks-off good, but much better than bad. Yes, the ending ended too soon (but it's obvious what will happen, so don't get too excited) and yes, the romance was what pragmatic people would call ridiculous and unrealistic. But on the whole it was pretty good, with thought-provoking questions raised on the price of innocence and the nature of human beings.
Rating: Summary: Great, but not Spectacular Review: Look, I'm not a book reviewer or anything, so I'm not going to talk about all this stuff no one understands, just what I think. And I think that this book was not the greatest one ever read (if such a thing exists) but it is much better than the worst one I've ever read (which definetly exists). Opinion are pretty much worthless, unless the person giving it is someone you know and has influence over you, so what I say probably doesn't count, since I'm sure that, even if you do know me, you wouldn't know it was me (is that too hard to follow?). But enough dodging what I'm really supposed to be talking about: "Dragon's Bait" is a charming story, which, excluding dragons, could be our own world in medieval times. It is told with the inner thoughts and feelings of its main character, Alys, though the dragon she gets to know sometimes steals the show.
Rating: Summary: What a book! Review: I can't say I am much of a reader but this book was fantastic! I couldn't put it down! Alys was a great character and Selendrile was, in a weird way, charming. I loved this book and definetly recommend it for teens!
Rating: Summary: Don't miss this book! Review: This book is a great mixture of romance and adventure. VVV did a wonderful job on it. If you love a book that will catch and have you predicting forever this book is for you!
Rating: Summary: I totally love this book!! Review: A 15 yr old girl who is accused of being a witch wants revenge so badly she is willing to take the dragon's, who she was sacraficed to, offer for help. I was a little disapointed with the ending though. That is why I am hoping for a sequal to see what happens to Alys and Selendrile.
Rating: Summary: An enchanting adventure Review: I read this book quite a while ago, the first of Vivian's books I have read, and loved it. The girl greatly desires her revenge after being rescued by the dragon that was to eat her. The dragon can become human and I love his irritating and elusive remarks. I was somewhat disappointed with the ending-too vague. I also reccomend The Brothers Grimm and Sisters Wierd, twisted versions of well known fairy tales.
Rating: Summary: Dull characters+No plot=Worst book I've read in a while Review: In this sad excuse for a book 16 year old Alys is accused of being a witch. Soon after she is plotting reveng with the dragon that was supposed to eat her named Selendrile.Selendrile becomes a human for short periods of time during which he and Alys fall in love. Come on, gag me with a spoon, a dragon and a human? Realy I'm not being racist or whatever but in this completely plottless, not to mention piontless book that is exactly what this story doesn't need. Sincerly I think He should have ate her in the start, if only to put this struggling plotless story out of it's misery and mine. If you really want to read this go to the liberary, just don't waste your money and buy this book!! From, A disgusted 13 year old reader:^)
Rating: Summary: Medieval Noir? As if medieval wasn't noir enough. Review: The book did not seem to have a "good guy" or a "bad guy" or even a truly conclusive ending. Everybody had a flaw that brought each other down one way or another: the Inquisitor's self-righteousness, Gower and his family's greed and selfishness, the townspeople's ignorance and superstition, and the distrust between unlikely partners Alys and Selendrile. Most of the action took place at night and the duo conspire in seedy places: an old farmhouse, an inn (a medieval equivalent of the seedy motel), behind the bushes, etc. There is a revenge plot, but Vivian Vande Velde seems more interested in the character interaction than the revenge or its payoff (or lack of). The book , on the whole, is better than any other "teenage romance" novel I've read, but there could have been a clearer description of the characters. Vande Velde wrote a better description of the Inquisitor than any other character in the book and that isn't saying much.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite books ever! Review: I loved Dragon's Bait. I bought it a few years ago and I read it very often. I learn something new everytime I read it, which usually takes me only a few hours. I love the character of Selendrile.
Rating: Summary: The Truely Lovely Tail On Two Teens Falling In Love! Review: Wow! It's amazing! These two teens Selendrile {Well he's not really a teen yet looks like it!}, and Alys, will capture your heart! It is truely a must read if you like a slightly romantic, yet tantalizing tail about the Mid-Evil stage of life.
