Rating: Summary: Handsome Dragon man to the rescue! Review: In this fast paced novel, a young girl of 15 is accused of whichcraft, and sent to be eaten by the resident dragon. She is left on a hill side to either die from the wolves, or the dragon flying overhead. She chooses a quick death. So, she chucks rocks at the dragon and calls to him to come and eat her. She is a little more than surprised to see that he is a strapping young man no older than 400 years.(of corse he only looks about 18 or so) She finds him strangely attractive. She teems up with him to get her revenge on the man who condemmed her. Working together with a dragon/man she is not shure she can trust, she plots out a way to get back at all those who hurt her in the past. In the mist of all that is going on she comes to grips with what she really wants in her life.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book! Review: Vivian Vande Velde's story telling is superb, she wields a story that although short will draw you in and keep you reading until the very end then leave you wishing for more. This is the only book of hers I have read but I was so impressed that I have been looking for more of her books. Her characters are not the norm but instead have so many different facets to their personality you truly wonder who they are at times. Her story line was fantastic and very well written. I suggest this book to anyone who likes a good story with sensible characters.
Rating: Summary: How did she do it in less than 140 pages? Review: Wow. I never would've thought. I took this book out of the library as an afterthought, one of those "might as well" kind of descisions. I am glad I did. What made me so reluctant at first to read the book was the fact that it was so thin. I thought it would be another one of those underdeveloped, waste-of-my-time (though is doesn't take that long to read them) I-can't- stand-the-cardboardness-of-the-characters kind of book. I'm glad I was wrong. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is crammed in too much. It has the perfect pace. It won't bore you with too many wordy descriptions and the main characters are so cool! I mean Alys is definately not another one of those "Cinderella" characters who can only wait to be rescued by some handsome prince, but then again she also not another of those completely rebellious bratty types that so many authors are trying out, wanting to be different but ending up instead just going with the latest fad. Senlendrile is calm, cool, and definately sardonic and sarcastic (like one of the main characters in another book i love, court duel). You NEVER know what he's thinking but are happy to watch Alys try to figure him out, but then practically rip her hair out when she can't. When they're together, it leads to witty conversation that, I think, is the best part of the book, because when the plot get's boring after numerous readings (it will take you awhile, I assure you) you still have the dialogue to look over and over again. Try it out. Even if you don't like it (i find it impossible) it's short enough that it won't leave you with the dread that you spent too much time reading something you shouldn't have.
Rating: Summary: Excellent quick read Review: Dragon's Bait is far better than your stereotypical revenge-quest fantasy novel. The characterizations are vivid, the action moves along at a nice clip, and the heroine's various dilemmas are compelling. The only reason that the book does not earn five stars in my opinion is that the ending is just a bit too preachy. If you enjoyed this book I highly recommend Vivian Vande Velde's even better _Companions of the Night_.
Rating: Summary: Its great. a must read book! Review: I realley liked this book. Its real interesting. If u like Dragons and a bit of romance u have got to read this book. The only problem is its just a little too short. I'd like someone to write 1 or 2 books that's about what happens afterwords. Just got to say again.... IT WS GRRRRRRREAT!
Rating: Summary: Pretty bor-ing Review: This book was okay near the beginning, but once you get past chapter seven it's pretty boring. I began reading this book and quit at chapter ten, then I finished it three years later. Quite a long time to read a book with less than 150 pages. It's an interesting look at witchcraft and dragons, though, so you may enjoy it. The plot itself is fascinating, if only it had been written differently.
Rating: Summary: A pleasure to read Review: Imagine you are staked on a hillside & left to be aDragon's Meal. Then imagine the Dragon can change into a man. You havea brillent Fantasy that will make you wonder and laught all at once. Each charecter is so different! You will not be able to put this book down until you have finished it!
Rating: Summary: A book about revenge Review: I thought this book was ok. It wasn't as good as the other reviews claimed that it was. I thought the main female character was whiny and couldn't make up her mind about what she felt. Also, the theme of revenge was carried out for far too long. It glorified it for so long, I was beginning to wonder if this girl would ever come to her senses.I also thought too much modern religion, specifically Christianity, was mixed into this book. The people in this book condem this girl for being a supposed witch, yet don't think twice about the fact that dragons are flying around and such. To me, the realms of fantasy and modern religion just don't mix. I wasn't very impressed with this book at all.
Rating: Summary: Dragons Review: All I have to say is after this book I have seen dragons in a whole new way. I loved reading about dragons before but the human part of this character just kept me wanting to read. I just wish she would write a sequel to this wonderful fantasy.
Rating: Summary: A unique, breathtaking book. Review: When I finished Dragon's Bait, I was loathe to put it down, hoping more writing would appear. Vivian Vande Velde has a frank, no-nonsense way of writing that catches your attention and holds it. She doesn't launch into long, wordy descriptions, nor does she explain everything about her characters, instead letting you get to know them on your own. That, to me, is a refreshing style I wish I saw more often. Plus, the plot is clear, and the story itself original. Both main characters, even cold Selendrile, are people I came to love, and the villains were not unbelievably villainous, like many Evil Incarnate, crazed bad guys. This is a good book for almost any avid reader.
