Rating: Summary: A favorite of mine Review: Dragon's Bait has been one of my favorite stories. Every once in a while I take it out to read again and every time I enjoy it. The story is about a girl named Alys who is falsely accused of witchcraft. Left for dead, she meets Selendrile, a dragon. They team up to get revenge, but Alys is never sure she should trust the dragon. In the end, she finds out whether he is really her friend, and whether she is his friend. A really good book.
Rating: Summary: a long time ago.... Review: The last time I read this book must have been 3 years ago, it was my brother's, and I loved it so much I basically kept it. He's got it now, and I'm on the other side of the country, and suddenly can't stop thinking about it! I loved this book! I would love to read a sequal, or even be able to just buy this in the store. It is one of my favorite books, though short, and though the ending left me wanting more. :)
Rating: Summary: Dragons are cool Review: Dragon's Bait was a cool really good book about a 15-year-old girl name Alys, and she has to make some life choices. It is about how Alys tries to get revenge on some people that had hurt her in the past and with the help form her dragon friend Selendril, who has cool magical powers. Over all I thought the book was good except for the fact that sometimes it is hard to fallow along with the story and is confusing. There were some really weird characters. Names that were hard to pronounce like, Selendril and Gower. But the characters where good like Selendril was funny like not even doing anything. I mean Alys would be talking to him and no matter what, he never had an expression on his face and it was weird. (...) Because she doesn't really fulfill all the revenge that was planed. I think that they could have had her get all of her revenge making the book longer. That wasn't really the end it was more like the middle and the end, but I though the ending was very good, and I wasn't expecting it, I would give it about a four out of five
Rating: Summary: ... Review: Man this has been one of the best books ever! A must get must read once you start you cant stop!
Rating: Summary: Remarkably Excellent Review: I really liked this book, when I picked it up I just couldn't put it down. When I first saw this book I was a bit skeptical at first, but my younger sister recommended it to me. I really like this book cause I felt like I was almost in the story, it has very good details and descriptions. I'm really hoping for a sequel to this book, and I recommond this book to anyone who likes mystical creatures or things during the medievil period.
Rating: Summary: Good, Better, Best Review: I really think this is VVVs her best book. She really captivates you. She also really needs to write a sequel. Alys is falsely convicted of witchcraft and is made dragons bait. When she gets free from the post, the dragon came. She heard howls in the distance now. She could die slow or fast. Alys chose fast... But as it turns out this dragon (His name is Selendrile)can shapeshift and wants to help her get revenge."Revenge is sweet" Slendrile comments. Get this book and love it or miss it and regret it later.
Rating: Summary: Vivian Thrift's BOOK REVIEW IN RHYME Review: Before you begin my review for the book Dragon's Bait by Vivian Vande Velde, please note that the pen name "Vivian Thrift" belongs to ME and if anyone else so chooses to use it, they will have to answer to a very ticked off poet (which is not a pleasant thing).Vande Velde's marvelous mythical book Starts off with a fantastic eye-opening hook The main character Alys (accused of practicing magic), Is sentenced to a death that would be quite tragic To be tied to a post in a field with a beast Who would find her an easy-to-catch and delightful feast The dragon comes closer, to close in on it's prey What shall Alys do now, if a choice comes her way? Had the dragon even seen her? Now her skills put to test Read the rest of the book to find out the rest.
VVV's writing is really a treat It keeps the reader forever on their feet I couldn't stop reading until it was done (Consequently, I was reading in the morning several hours past 1) She has a great way of making it exciting Adding lots of originality and a great style of writing. This was the first Vande Velde book I read, and I thought it was clever, It made me get hooked on her writing forever!
Now for the suggestions that come at the end, If you liked this author or book then I highly reccommend: Philip Pullman, Brian Jacques, Robin McKinely*, J.K. Rowling, Peter S. Beagle, Richard Adams, J.R.R. Tolkien *If you really liked Vivian Vande Velde's work, then you should most likely check out Robin McKinely. They are somewhat similiar in my opinion. Which is probably pretty accurate, since I get them confused with each other all the time... The idea of Vivian Thrift's BOOK REVIEW IN RHYME is copyright me! Rating: Summary: A Decent Quick Read Review: Vivan Van Velde is my favorite fantasy author (besides Annette Curtis Klause), but I must admit Dragon's Bait was a little lacking. While the characters are interesting (a young girl and a golden dragon that can shapeship), the plot was not all that provoking or inspired. The book is not as long as her other novels, making this a very good quick read. The book has the same amount of quality and detail in her writing. This book wasn't bad, but it also wasn't very good, either. If you're into Van Velde, then I suggest the Conjurer Princess or Companions of the Night.
Rating: Summary: A great tale Review: _Dragon's Bait_ is the story of the adventures of Alys, a clever, defiant, resourceful young woman accused of witchcraft and left on a mountain to die. She meets a shapeshifting dragon(who was supposed to eat her) named Selendril, a fascinating and enigmatic character(one of my favorites). An engrossing, humorous, romantic tale about a quest for vengeance.
Rating: Summary: Dragon's Bait Review: I loved Vivian Vande Velde's book Dragon's Bait. It was a great story and her characters were realistic. In fact I thought it was so good that I have read it several times. There is one thing i was courious about though, the story stops rather abruptly and leaves the reader with a lot of questions. I'm dieing for Vivian to write a sequal to Dragon's Bait.
