Summary: Walter Dean Myers is a great author!
Review: Mr. Myers, you have done a splendid job of weaving the Lewis family throughout its history. Thankyou for placing a high importance on family first.
My favorite quote, and the one which I think summarizes this work of art is as follows - "Those shackles didn't rob us of being black, son, they robbed us of being human. Who should own them is a human being."
I strongly encourage those who read this review to purchase this book and find out what Mr. Myers meant by that. When you do, you will be very glad that you did. The Lewis family ultimately is a family of love, no matter what generation is portrayed. In my opinion, it transcends even being black or white or whatever race you are. My wish for my family is that we can be like the Lewis's.
Thankyou for this powerful novel, Mr. Myers.

Summary: An Unbelievable book of Amazing Proportions! Best Yet!
Review: The first line was enticing enough for me. Through every page, Meyer's convays the ways and the will of african americans, and the struggles they faced through the times in America. Starting from when the first captured came to the United States, then ending in present day, it shows the way one family, with courage and striff, survived even the most harshest of times. I HIGHLY recommend this book. For it is richly illustrative vocabulary wise, and is just down right a GREAT BOOK......READ IT!

Summary: I thought that the book was ok
Review: The Glory Feild is about the troubles of 5 teenage generations of a struggling black family line. The family line experiences troubles of racism and segregation. My opinion of the book is that it was very well done. The only problem I found was that the author jumped the characters around to much. It was confusing having so many characters. Besides the characterazation problem the plot of the story was done well. I found that the book as a whole was mildly interesting. My ovrall score of the book, out of 5 stars was 2 stars.

Summary: The Glory Feild
Review: The Glory Feild is story about civil rights throughout the ages. The book is about a family, from the time when they were shipped to America as slaves, to present times, when they have nearly equal rights. All through the book the family is descriminated and called racist names. They must live through being cheated, and being thought useless by the white people. They must pay taxes, but have no political say. As you progress through the book the times get better and better, and the African americans get more and more rights. I thought the book was informative, but not a great read. It had some good points, but the book its self was not great in my opinion. The book was sort of choppy and hard to follow, and you could not really get to know the characters. I give this book 2 stars for those reasons.

Summary: An Amazing Story of Slavery in the U.S.
Review: The Glory Field by Walter Dean Myers is an amazing book that tells about slavery and discrimination in the U.S. It takes place in five different generations and in a different situation each time. It starts out in the time of slavery when an ancestor of the family in the book is kidnapped from Africa and brought over as a slave. For two generations, they suffer in slavery. Then after that the family is still discriminated against just because of the color of their skin. In one of the generations, the teenager of the family is trying to get a scholarship from a big college in where he lives. However, after he stands up for his rights in a demonstration that scholarship never comes. This book is a very believable book that can helped to open my eyes to exactly how troubled of a past blacks have had in this country. This book I give four stars. I gave it that for four reasons. One, it is a very believable and detailed book. This book is over 300 pages and only has five main chapters. The detail in this book is great to help you to fully understand the character's situations and what was going on. In addition, it is very believable. The book is not "far-fetched" in anyway. Two, it helped to open my eyes to the aspects and the troubles of blacks' life in the past. They have not had an easy past by any means and what they did endure was for no reason other than their skin. It was not deserved in anyway. Three, this book was not the absolute greatest I have ever read, but it was very good. I enjoyed reading it and could not put it down. Yet, at times the length did seem a little much. This book was not interesting the entire time, and at times did drag on a little. However, for the most part I wanted to keep reading it and all in all, it was a great book.

Summary: Heart Wrenching!
Review: The Glory Field by Walter Dean Myers was an heart wrenching book that truly held my attention. This wonderful book is about a strong family that overcomes incredible hardship. This saga of the Lewis family spans nearly 250 years. This story of the Lewis generations traces their on-going battle for freedom and equality. I was truly amazed with the perseverance and courage the characters showed in the book. Each generation has its own unique story with sorrow and joy. It gives the reader a glimps of what slavery was like, knowing that what the African-americans truly went through was absolutley horrifying. A thought provoking story that everyone should read.
