Rating: Summary: Glory Field review Review: "The Glory Field" is about the Lewis family from when they came over from Africa and started a family on Curry Island, South Carolina. The book tells the story of one person from each generation. The book spans almost 250 years. The book is an example of how the lifestyle of African Americans has changed over the years. Throughout the entire story part of the lewis family owns or works on the same piece of land.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book for junior high and high school teachers. Review: "Glory Field," is a very interesting book. Walter Dean Myers does an excellent job developing several different characters to make their lives very interesting to the reader. The book is quite similar to Alex Haley's "Roots," but it is not quite as harsh. It is a wonderful book for teachers of junior high or high school English or History. It is easy to follow and appeals to the reader's emotions, but is not offensive.
Rating: Summary: The Glory Field Review: I wasn't really interested in this book when I first started reading it but then it got pretty interesting. Not really but yeah. It's about an African man who was captured and turned into a slave. The new generations of his family are slaves for this white family who is mean to them except for this one girl who is like 17 years old who is nice to the 13 year old girl in the family.
There are about 9+ generations of this family who are in this book but only has 6 different parts of the story that cover different times and at different places. It takes a while to read though since it's like 375 pages. This is the Lewis family. They are nice and caring people who aren't harmful and are either city folk or people from the farm. They spend a lot of time working on the farm. Every different section of this story is a whole different story but about the same family. For instance, the first section is about an 11 year old African boy called Muhammad Bilal and when he was captured. The second is about when the Lewis family was working on a farm and doing everything they were told cleaning up, cooking, planting, etc.
Some parts of this book are interesting and some are not. There's a lot of conversations and talking going on in this story and the people are either treated nicely or they aren't. Even if you don't like stories that are talking about history you might want to read this story. That's all I have to say.
Rating: Summary: a very educated novel for especially young readers. Review: at the end of the 1997 school year. my son and other
students at his school were given assignments to do over the summer.
this project is due the first day of school and will be their first grade for the new school year. The Glory Story Was one of the books for the kids to read and my son chose to read it. In this report
the kids have to set the report up as if you were reading a newspaper. I must tell you
I have read the book along with my son and the two of us have put together a very nice paper for my son
to turn in the first day of school. This book should help the younger generation ages 9,10,11,12,13,14 to understand just how hard the african american family struggled in the slave days and just how strong they are now.....despite battles we went thru trying to earn freedom. I recommend all families of any origin to read this novel think back to what happen back then and appreciate where we are now. Although we still struggle we have definitely come a long long way.

Rating: Summary: A familys history from slavery until the present Review: Excellent book which depicts the histroy of an African American slave family from the 1700's until the present. Tells of families personal struggles and triumps throughout the generations.
Rating: Summary: READ this book! Review: I am not, and never have been, much of a history buff. In fact, it was my least favorite subject throughout school. Therefore, I never expected to enjoy reading The Glory Field.... but I did! Incredibly, I have to say, it is by far one of THE BEST books I've ever read. I immediately found myself drawn into the lives of the characters; wondering which of them would make it, and which ones would not. I'd sit down to read "a few pages", and find myself still reading an hour later. Myers paints a vivid picture of the black slaves' life: their commitment to family, their never-ending belief in God, and their struggle for freedom...and survival. He takes the reader on the journey of a lifetime...from the trip over from Africa on the crowded slave ship, through the days of back-breaking labor in the fields, through the civil rights movement, to the glorious days of owning their own land. The reader finds himself unable to put the book down, connected to this family's journey, and struggling along with them for what's right. My advice: READ this book! Teachers, read it to your students. Moms & Dads, read it to your children. Read it for yourself. You'll be glad you did, and a little more grateful for what you have.
Rating: Summary: Worth Reading Review: I read this book when I was in sixth grade. I'm a college freshman now, and I still tell people about this book. It had a real impact on me. It's extremely heart-wrenching, and completely worth a read.
