Review: I thought this book was a really good book. Roland Smith made it so interesting that I had trouble putting the book down. He explains alot about Africa and poachers. The book has some parts that made me want to cry. It is as if you are there with Jacob on the journey in Africa. It was so good that I wanted to keep reading on about Jacobs journey, so I read his second book Jaguar.

Summary: I think this is a good book because it's exciting and scary.
Review: This book is about a 14 year-old kid named Jacob Lansa and he goes to Kenya to look for his dad and on the way there he meets a masai person named Supeet. He helps him find his dad. Jacob helps him with the rain ceremony. Then later Jacob gets kidnapped by poachers. Well, I don't won't to tell the whole story, but it is a good book.

Summary: It's not boring
Review: This is a fun read, filled with action and vivid details. We get a real sense of the African terrain and the Masai people, as well as horrific information about the poaching of elephants. The plot moves along quickly with new complications for Jake and his companions on every page. Unfortunately, we don't get to know the characters very well and the plot twists seem almost too much at times: after a while, I got that "now what?" feeling when Jake conquered yet another problem. All in all, though, it's enjoyable. I read _Thunder Cave_ to my 4th grade students, and they enjoyed it immensely.

Summary: A must read book
Review: Thunder Cave is a fast paced, fun book. When Jake's mom dies he is forced to live with his aunt and uncle. Jake decides to take matters into his own hands. His dad is a field biologist tracking elephants in Kenya. Jake hatches a wild plan to fly to Kenya and bike 70 miles to his dad's camp. On his crazy journey he goes through more than enough. He becomes friends with a tribe leader that helps him. He also becomes not so friendly with a group of poachers that want to kill Jake's dad. Jake has to find the mental and physical strength to overcome the odd's and find his dad without getting killed.
