Summary: Must read, take the day off from work to read this one
Review: This was the first book by this author that I have read. The Dragonlore was captivating and in the same realm as Anne MacCaffrey's Pern. The character, Lanen, was realistic and hard edged. She had an honesty and integrity that was refreshing. I hope the author has more of this character in store for us.

Summary: A well-written twist on the dragon/human relationship theme.
Review: Kerner takes up a well-worn theme, the relationship between dragons and humans, and gives it a fresh voice. The characters, especially the admirable but very human Lanan Kaelar, are engaging and believable. The technique of warning the reader of a shift in first-person narrative allows the reader to get inside the head of various characters without confusion regarding who is speaking. Despite a satisfying conclusion, the mission to restore the Lesser Kindred is unfulfilled, leaving me eagerly awaiting a sequel.

Summary: This is a non-stop book!
Review: This book is well written, the characters are well developed, and I couldn't put it down! I love the characters of Lanen and Akor. Too bad there aren't mote people in the real world with that sort of personality. I can't wait for the sequel (if there is one).

Summary: Best since Paksanarian
Review: Among the countless fantasy novels I have read in my decades, among my favorite 5 stories lie the Paksanarian trilogy by Elizabeth Moon. Until tonight I would have taken long odds that no fantasy tale with a female protagonist would ever break into that select group. Elizabeth Kerner and her incredible, fresh world of Lanen Kaelar has conquered those odds. Please, Elizabeth, whatever you did to produce this inspiring and brilliant novel, do it again, and soon! There are few living fantasy authors whose novels I read/purchase immediately on the basis of name alone, but as of now, Elizabeth Kerner is one of them!

Summary: this book had me dreaming of dragons
Review: OHhhhh this story was amazing. i just loved it. I happened to be looking for another book when i found this one, and so i instantly plopped down on a comfy seat in my local Barnes and Noble and read they whole thing there in the store. I didn't have the money to buy it, but i didn't want to put it down. I'm hoping that there will be a sequel to this, hoping and praying, because i feel there is more to the story of Lanen and her dragon lover. I'm saving my money and running back to the book store to buy this wonderful book just so i can have it to reread over and over again. if you love dragon stories then read this... it's not to be missed. -Becca

Summary: Journey to a world of dragons-live the adventure!
Review: Lanen Hadronsstead is a strong female who dreams of sailing to the mystical and remote Dragon Isles in order to find True Dragons. However, the kingdom of Ilsa, where Lanen was born and grew up, discourages women from leaving their own homes, let alone going on a long and dangerous sea voyage. So Lanen had to wait until her father died before she could start her adventure of seeing the great dragons. What Lanen does not realize is that her dreams are part of a great prophesy predicted centuries before she was born. Many people, both human and otherwise, do not want to see the prophesy fulfilled. They will do anything, up to and including killing Lanen, to insure that the status quo remains. If she is Lucky to reach the isles alive, will she find love and the fulfillment of her dream, or will death be patiently waiting for her arrival? SONG IN THE SILENCE: THE TALE OF LANEN KAELAR is a good romantic fantasy that readers will enjoy while wondering why it is not excellent. Readers will derive joy from the exciting story line and the vivacious characters, especially Lanen, who is a role model in any era. However, Elizabeth Kerner makes the mistake of many first time authors by thinking she needs to present everyone's perspective on the situation. This novel is a fun to read adventure that will have genre fans looking forward to more works by Ms. Kerner, who demonstrates the promise that she has the potential of being a future star. Summary: Beautifully Written. Makes me wish there WERE Dragons!
Review: In Song of the Silence: The Tale of Lanen Kaelar, Elizabeth Kerner manages to make her world of magic and dragons come alive in a way that makes me wish very much that there WERE dragons in the world. I found myself really caring about her characters, and I was sorry to see the book end. I find myself really eager to read her next book!

Summary: Different Style
Review: First, I *love* dragons, and I'm a fiend for romance, so it's no surprise that I really enjoyed this book! Lanen was a great character to "live" with, and Akor (the dragon) was amazing. However. The reviews are true -- the book is a bit predictable with the "evil" that they face. I also found the long, drawn out explanatory passages a bit tedious, and the narrative style was difficult to adjust to, as well. I don't tend toward first person narrative, and this book is written in MULTIPLE first person narrative. The POV character switches in the middle of the scene, and often, in the middle of dialog. It's not confusing, it's just not "typical." Sometimes I felt like I wanted the author to pick one POV character and stick with it!!! I didn't need the internal thoughts of EVERYONE -- the good guys, the bad guys, minor characters, EVERYONE has their own POV.

Of course, if you can get past that, the book is amazing. It takes a while to get to the romance, and in that you have your typical fantasy plot, but all in all its a good mix of the two. The romance is very enjoyable, however.

Ms. kerner did a good job, and I look forward to reading the future books in this series!

Summary: Really, it's a 3.5
Review: Overall, it's not a bad book.

Kerner overuse fantasy cliches, but not too many, so that it takes away the overall effectiveness of the book. The decriptions are really good, and the pages fly by.

The biggest downfall, for me, was the character jumps - that just irritates me - and it's in the first person. I don't like books written in the first person, it makes for a restricted story, I want an outside perspective looking in on the story.

But still, I recomend it, if you have nothing else on you bookshelf.

Summary: A Song of Brilliance
Review: I believe this is the first novel of Elizabeth Kerner but she managed to get it right on the first try. THis is just a wonderful story and so well written that it will bring tears to your eyes. This also just happens to be one of the most creative and imaginative plotted fantasy novels with a totally different spin on dragons. INCREDIBLY well done.

The story focuses on a woman by the name of Lanen Kaelar and she has but one dream - to travel to the Dragon Isles and search for dragons. This would prove a difficultly being that ships departing for said Isle never actually reach it. However, as luck would have it, she boards a ship that gets there. But, this is no cruise ship so she is recruited to be one of the gatherers of a famed cure-all known as lansip (comes in two forms: fruit and leaves). While she is there, she becomes embroiled in a scheme of a demon-inclined man who has sinister intentions for Lanen which date back to her mother's time. Lanen also comes to know a dragon and her wishes are fulfilled and so much more. (He is really the coolest dragon :)

It's just an excellently crafted novel and it's beautiful in it's clarity and honesty. The main character has her foibles and her strong points that absolutely endear her to everyone. The hero is one of the best that there ever was. Totally worth the buy.
