Rating: Summary: Non fantasy reader, I loved this book Review: When I bought this book, my fiance said, "So, you're getting into fantasy now?" I said no, and he exclaimed "There's a giant silver dragon on the cover!"You don't have to be into fantasy to enjoy this book, and if you are, you will be sure to enjoy it as well. The narrative just speeds along, but gives plenty of detail. The writing in this novel is so wonderfully VIVID! The emotions are wonderfully -- the perfect mix of joy, sadness, fear, curiousity, etc.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Beautiful! Review: Song in the Silence is one of my most favorite fantasy novels. The love between the spirited Lanen Kaelar and the majestic dragon, Akhor, is profoundly beautiful! It shows how flawless a relationship between a young woman and an animal can be. Full of adventure and heart-warming events, this book will make you wish that it never ended. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading romantic fantasies, especially those who are enchanted by dragons.
Rating: Summary: A new perspective on dragons Review: From the other reviews I've read, there is no fence sitting with this book. I found it delightful and romantic and greatly enjoyed it. Obviously it won't compare to works by Jane Austen and other classics, but as a contemporary sci-fi/fantasy novel, it ranks quite highly on my list.
Rating: Summary: Hit and Miss Review: The synopsis seemed to promise a good adventure story (and these types of novels are usually hit-or-miss), and I tried to forgive the *incredibly* slow beginning (a lot of reminiscing and dawdling around in an overdone attempt to build character history from an unexciting perspective), but it only goes downhill from there. To my complete disappointment, the pace of the story never really picked up. Lanen Kaelar is not in any danger in the first third/half of the novel, even though the author tries to hype up her "precarious" situation (a pawn in her real father's deal-with-the-devil type thing). Although Lanen is supposed to be the primary adventurer in this story, Ms. Kerner insists on changing perspectives repeatedly, ruining the flow of the story (vs. Rhapsody by E. Haydon, which changes perspectives quite fluidly). As a side effect, none the multitude of characters seem very well rendered (no engrossing detail about the characters or the dragon kin on the island). Overall, the plot is lackluster, and the ending is pulled off badly (an unnatural love reborn to a natural one? Geez, an unplausible aboutface from what Ms. Kerner kept pointedly reminding the reader). Thus, I found the ending just really drawn out. Some better reads (IMO): "Rhapsody" by Elizabeth Haydon and "Crown Duel" by Sherwood Smith.
Rating: Summary: Dullest Book I've Ever Read! Review: As I read reviews posted by other readers, I wonder if they even read the same book I did! Each time I set it down, I had to force myself to pick it up again, just because I really hate to leave a book unfinished. The characters are wooden caricatures, the dialogue is unrealistic and just dreadful, and the whole story is flat and dull. I could not more strongly urge you to find something else, ANYTHING else (the ingredient list on the back of a shampoo bottle, for instance), to read... but I'm obviously in the minority here.
Rating: Summary: At Long Last! Review: At long last a new author has entered the realm of dragons, and given it something new and wonderful. All my friends have been raving about this book, and when I picked it up, I discovered why. This book is one of the best I have read. Ever. Lanen Kaelar is a fabulous protagonist, and her love of dragons is on par with my own. I have just finished the book, and I can't remember a time when a book has left me feeling as satisfied as this one. And yet, at the same time, I am very eagerly anticipating any other works from Elizabeth Kerner. In closing, I'd like to welcome Elizabeth to the field of high fantasy, and thank her for this fabulous novel. May there aways be wind to your wings.
Rating: Summary: those who have eyes, let them see Review: An extremely excellent inspiration of information from a true source.. for those of you out there who know that there is a little bit more to the imagination than ideas in the brain, this one is for you. For those of you who read books for grammar, spelling, and overall writing skill though, go nitpick something else and leave this one to those of us who enjoy true depth- because you -are- dealing with a first-time author novel here. ;) and elizabeth- I need to talk to you about the origins of your nonhuman dialect.. if you are to see this message, it will get through, and they will guide you here. Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: This book was recommended to me by another girl browsing SciFi/Fantasy books, and I took her up on her recommendation. Although I have a noticable bias towards female main characters (which this book has) I enjoyed this book enough to say it is a very admirable first work. It's beginning is classic-girl leaves home searching for adventure after her father dies. The telling of it, however, is memorable. If Elizabeth Kerner ever writes another book, I'll be thrilled to buy it. I won't even wait for a recommendation!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: I found this to be a very interesting treatment of the human/dragon interaction story. The language was extremely poetic, descriptive and gave me a feel for the world Ms. Kerner was writing about. There were elements of contemporary issues such as tolerance, prejudice and good vs. evil. However, even the evil ones were not necessarily unremitingly bad but were worthy of compassion at some point in the story. A little like real life! Only problem is she hasn't written a sequel yet so I have to wait to see how things come out.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ! Review: The Song in the Silence absolutely wonderful! Lanen Kaelar's story is the best dragon tale that I have ever read (and I have read many). Lanen Kaelar is a 26 year old Gedri (human) who has always dreamed of talking to the Kedri (dragons). Finally when she fulfills her dream, she dicovers how much danger she is in. This story is full of love, demons, and dragons. I thouroughly recomend this book to anyone and everyone who likes dragons.
